:D

He's a fine talent but better than Kaka for example? He's not quite in that league yet. He bizarrely rarely starts for Spain.

He's a completely different type of player and at least as important to his team as Kaka. Cesc runs matches for fun, he's maturing into an incredible talent. Funnily enough, I didn't think he had a great game yesterday. And van Persie hasn't done much all season :D .

True but from an objective point of view to come out with the statement that he's the best midfielder in the world is jumping the gun a bit surely?

Maybe a tad. I remember saying it myself last year though. I think if you consider the type of player he is - he's not a Gerrard or Kaka - then you'd struggle to find anyone better. And he's very young still, something that's easy to forget when you see him play like a seasoned pro. If any top team wanted a play maker then I think Cesc would be top of the wish list bar none.

Cesc is stepping up to the plate which is great for us. He's starting to lead by example and when he's not having the best game (like yesterday) he still crops up with a goal. Van persie has been quiet for the past 2 games. I'd play him against seville and if he doesn't play better i'd prob drop him for eduardo to give him a kick up the arse. He's still a top player jus prob needs more service

I'd agree with that. He probably is the best midfielder of his type around at the minute. But as central midfielders go I can think of a couple of names at least that I'd rate higher, Gerrard being the obvious first on the list. Fabregas is still very young, though.

Players like Gerrard and Kaka are undoubtedly great and have achieved more in their (longer) careers, but I don't see anyone else with the vision, range of passing or intuitive understanding of the game that Cesc has. It's barely an exaggeration to say everything good that Arsenal do goes through him in one way or another, and for that he's even more crucial to that team than Gerrard is to Liverpool. Moreover, as play maker I don't see a team in the world he wouldn't walk into and fill the same role, becoming their most important player at a stroke. He's the best player in the world.

What a day Saturday was. After I turned down the chance to bung a steward £50 who could get my mates and I into the away end (3 of them still went), I then ended up missing the first half as I got to the pub late. The pub was packed and I had to stand on a table and lean on a window to see the TV but it was very much worth it. Personally I think I changed the game when I came on!

Rosicky played very well and i'm suprised nobody has mentioned it. He got straight into things as soon as he came on and was involved in lots of good moves, but obviously Cesc and Adebayor stole the show. Cesc is our main man. He has it all now he has started banging them in. Adebayor has obviously taken over Pires' role as chief tormentor of the enemy, 4 goals in 4 games now. And that last one was a bit special.

The only thing that took the shine off it was when I got a phonecall off my mate who went to the lane (yes the one that snuck in) and he told me that he was about to leave, but stopped to applaud the players off and Cesc came over to applaud the fans. He then took his shirt off and threw it into the crowd...right into my mates hands. The lucky bastard. I'll try and get a picture of him on Wednesday. Lucky bastard. Could have been me. ;)

Looking ahead, our games before the next international break:

19 Wed Champions League H Sevilla

22 Sat Barclays Premier League H Derby County

25 Tue Carling Cup H Newcastle United

29 Sat Barclays Premier League A West Ham United

2 Tue Champions League A Steaua Bucharest

7 Sun Barclays Premier League H Sunderland

I would be very, very pleased if we are still unbeaten by that stage but our toughest games are Sevilla and West Ham away I guess.

They played yesterday plus they have to travel, so really they must be more worried than us to be honest.

That said, a draw wouldn't be a disaster.

This. I can see us winning, but it won't be easy. As with all Champions League campaigns, our group has to be won at home, so any kind of result will see me happy.

Oh, any chance Pires will be playing?

what can i say that's not been said already? fuck me what a game! atmosphere in the 12 pins was unbelievable, we were all covered in beer and sweat afterwards. i've got a cracking picture of a shirt someone made up but my phone's being a bit of a dick so i can't upload it right now.

good old perry:

"It's incredible isn't it," he told Ham&High Sport. "We were supposed to be the club in crisis while Spurs were going to be the top dogs in north London and steal our place in the top four.

"But, as usual, it looks like an umpteenth false dawn for Spurs while we are playing attractive football and getting all the plaudits. It's basically business as usual in north London."

big up tin tin!

Anyone feeling Flamini love right now?

The bloke is everywhere and runs his bollocks off. He's brave as a lion, is intelligent on the ball, versatile and underrated, IMO. I'm really glad he stayed :) .

Very much so, I've got a lot of time for both him and Adebayor - great to see them both start the season so brightly.

big time. as i mentioned earlier in the thread he reminds me of raymondo - exactly the kind of player who wins you titles. you need to put a few snooker balls in your silk sock..

I remember you said that and it's a good shout. He's a bit leaner than our Ray and possibly a tad better on the ball but they are very similar. I'd stick him in the side up North in a winter away fixture. Anyone who rolls their sleeves up in the cold is alright in my book :) .

I mean this in a good way, Flamini plays to his strengths, he knows what they are and he knows his limitations. He doesn't try to be Cesc because he knows he isn't, but there is quality there and he is definitely maximising it.

If everyone at Arsenal plays to their strengths and gives 100% like Flamini does this team could definitely go places.
