Wenger agrees three-year Arsenal deal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has agreed a three-year contract extension worth about £4million a year to remain at the Premier League club, according to reports.

The deal, which will keep Wenger at the Emirates Stadium until the summer of 2011, is set to be formally announced on Friday.

JENS LEHMANN has blasted his critics by insisting he is still Arsenal's No1.

The Germany star unleashed a furious rant at the press in his home nation, who had questioned whether he should be first choice for both club and country.

Manuel Almunia has replaced Lehmann in goal for the Gunners' last two matches.

But Lehmann rubbished reports he had been dropped due to poor form.

He said: "I feel I am the number one at Arsenal and Germany, although I know I have to train hard every day to justify this.

"I have not played recently because I could not play. If I am injured, then obviously another man plays.

"If he is a superman who stops everything, then I may not play again.

"But from experience I know I have played constantly and I am not worried that I will not play again when I am fit."

He's pure class, a legend.

Officially confirmed on Arsenal.com.

Arsène said: “My heart is tied to this football club so signing a new deal was always my intention. Arsenal is the club of my life. I have been entrusted with complete freedom to implement and execute my plans on what will make the team successful and that means I have a responsibility to the fans to deliver silverware and also a responsibility to the players to help turn our potential into prizes. This Club has deep-seated roots and a tremendous heritage and it is my aim to uphold these important values and help create new history for future generations to recount.”

Superb news!!

I don't see why we can't now push on, now everything has setled down what with Henry leaving and all the rumours about Wenger & Cesc, and go on and win the league, and the CL during Arsene's new contract, maybe even the FA cup.

(might be getting a bit carried away but fuck it man why not lets win everything)

Good news for you guys. I think losing Wenger would've been a major setback for the club.

I love waiting to see what new gem of a player he'll unearth to make everyone forget about the last one.

That reminds me...

Academy striker Gilles Sunu has revealed he rebuffed offers from two of Arsenal's biggest rivals to join the Gunners.

Chelsea and Manchester United expressed an interest in the 16-year-old before he signed from French Second Division side Chateauroux in the summer.

The youngster also said he first knew about the possibility of a move to Arsenal, the club he supported as a child, two years ago.

"When I played for Chateauroux there was interest from Chelsea, Manchester United, Barcelona, AC Milan," Sunu told Arsenal.com. "I chose Arsenal because Arsenal make careers for a lot of young players. It's a great, great, great club - my favourite in the world, the team I support.

Valencia are ready to offer £10 million for Arsenal midfield star Gilberto once the transfer window reopens but the Brazilian is desperate to stay at the Emirates.

The Spaniards saw an £8 million inquiry fail in the summer but will renew their chase in January although they will need to beat off big interest from Inter Milan.

Gilberto despite having the chance to land one final huge pay day has told boss Arsene Wenger he wants to add a Champions Cup medal to the Premiership and FA Cup gongs he's collected with the Gunners.

A source close to the player revealed: "There were bids from Valencia and Inter during the summer of around £10 million and Valencia have made it clear they will be back in the January transfer window.

"The lad though is desperate to stay at the Emirates and win the Champions Cup as an Arsenal player it's his dream." Gilberto made it clear recently he is ready to pledge himself to the club for life saying: "It would be extremely honourable to finish my career as a Gunner."

How about that for a bit of loyalty!

I'm sure many players would have got into a strop with the captain situation and playing out of position but instead he wants to win the champions league as an Arsenal player and end his career with us.

What a star!

Have I ever told you guys I love Gilberto?

Because I really, really do.

What I love more is just how positive everything has become since Henry left. I'm pretty sure every Arsenal fan out there had a little bit of a cry when they heard we were selling him to Barca, but I don't think I've felt more positive about the clubs possibility of progression since we went the season unbeaten.

Good times to be a Gooner.

Also at the end of this article a couple of superb quotes from Gilberto.

Finally, the wonderful Gilberto Silva has been talking about Saturday’s North London Derby:

“I am not worried by Jol’s situation. That’s Tottenham’s problem and it’s logical that we want to make Tottenham suffer more. If Jol is sacked because of an Arsenal win it’s not a problem to me. I can sleep calmly.”

Gilberto: I like your thinking. Sometime-musician and wannabe-pundit Silva also gives his tactical analysis on Tottenham’s season to date:

“I notice errors in defence, less control in midfield and little success in attack.

Top man!

I hate international week.

Still, only a few days to go.

Hill-Wood has been giving it large again:

Arsenal's chairman, Peter Hill-Wood, insisted last night that they would not follow in the footsteps of Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool by selling out to foreign owners, describing the idea that the club needed a billionaire's help with the annual deficit as "lunacy".

This bit made me laugh.

Hill-Wood added that Arsenal "will have a dialogue with any principal or major shareholder. If they have got some sensible proposals we will listen to them" but revealed that Dein would not be one of them. "I see no major point in that. I've had 25 years of listening to him," he said.

From the BBC gossip pages:

Emmanuel Adebayor could miss six games for Arsenal after declaring he wants to play for Togo again. (The Sun)

I find this a bit annoying but on the other hand it will give Eduardo a good run in the team with RVP. Will be interesting to say the least.

Now that's over nearly time for the proper football to begin again.

Gilberto might not make it back until tomorrow after playing for Brazil. Leaves us very short at the back if he isn't ready for Saturday but I think he will have to play.

Also this via Arseblog.

Schillings, the lawyers acting for Usmanov, have been in touch with several independent Arsenal supporters' websites and blogs warning them to remove postings referring to allegations made against him by Craig Murray, the former British ambassador to Uzbekistan.

Our (possible) new owner. Nice.

Sagna's back for tomorrow but Gallas is still out, big blow that is, Senderos is suspended and Lehmann and Eboue are still injured.

http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?thisNav...artet+ruled+out

The injuries mean Kolo Toure is the only fit and established central defender in his squad.

“The centre half position?” said Wenger. “Gilberto is available I hope because he has played in that position recently. Then we will see. After that I have Alex Song who has played in this position and Justin Hoyte too.”

Scary stuff!

probable line up?

Almunia

Sagna - Toure - Silva - Clichy

Hleb - Cesc - Flamini/Diarra/Diaby - Rosicky

Eduardo/Adebayor - RVP

I would start with Eduardo and RVP up front and have Adebayor as an option off the bench. Can't quite decide who I think should partner Cesc in the middle, Diaby maybe, I think Wenger will go with Flamini though.

Why is the kick off time early? Is it the Old Bill kicking up? (used to be time, back in the Eighties, when all the London derbies were lunchtime kos which didn't help the performances, giving those hangovers less time to clear up like).

Anyone but Song at centre back please.

Would like to see Eduardo get the nod after his goals for Croatia.
