Strange. I'm pretty sure I was checking Sky Sports News until 12 but only saw news of this Diarra deal this morning. Pretty pleased with it. Especially after this was said a while back.

The Sun reckons it was £5m. Not bad. As said above in Diaby and Diarra we potentially have the new Vieria/Makelele combo at Arsenal.

Is everyone here against the takeover?

Totally. No way do I want the club to be a massive money laundering opportunity for a very dodgy character.

Neither do I want a highly leveraged buy out by Americans (or anyone else - not meant to be xenophobic).

Dein has dined out for 10 years on introducing Wenger to the club. Remember he was against the new stadium plan and wanted Arsenal to share Wembley. I don't doubt that he is a fan but I am puzzled why some fans seem to be supporting his actions. As far as I am aware the club does not require significant new sources of funding in the short term and once the flats are sold and the debt substantially reduced we will quickly become cash positive with the massive gate receipts. Wenger has never hinted he has been frustrated financially in the transfer market.

Exactly. And like I said earlier, so what if this guy pumps in £100m or whatever? Wenger still won't spend it ^_^

What if the owners spend it? Abramovich bought Shevchenko and didn't even discuss it with Mourinho. In Italy & Spain, the clubs owners buy players and give them to the coach and say "here you go, I've bought 'x', 'y' & 'z' to please me and the fans, now go and win matches and you're fired if you lose a few!".

Look at that chump at Hearts - they've self destructed due to meddling from the owner.

What do you think Liverpool's owners will say come the end of the season when they don't win the league and may only have a domestic cup to show for their massive spending? Will they give Benitez time or boot him out?

All this baggage comes with owners who demand instant success and think they can get it by spending a few quid.

Interesting bit from this BBC story:

Indeed. Which is why the club is even more attractive to investors. It's going to be a difficult time alright.

Other news - we have drawn Newcastle at home in the Carling Cup. Reunion with our nemesis Big Sam. Hopefully the kids will ignore all the history and just piss all over them.

Torres is fucking awesome its a shame we never had a chance. I'm slightly suprised we bought diarra i thought we had enough cover in the centre of midfield but hey as long as he doesn't disrupt the squad i don't mind

You don't want Fab being forced back, he's there to replace Gilberto. Quality player too, I hear.

I'm a bit gutted about Babel too. It seemed like a certainty that he was gonna sign for us at one point and he looks very good indeed. He would also be exactly what we are looking for, a proper left winger.

We could have had him 2 years ago for less than £6m and we could have had Cech for peanuts before he was offered to Chelsea. Wenger's dropped some right clangers over the years.

There was problems with Cech's work permit at the time we wanted him I think. Not sure what happened with Babel although I have a bad feeling that we hesitated and before we knew it the price had risen above what we wanted to pay.

To be fair to Wenger he has dug up some absolute bargains over the years too.

Work permit issues stopped us from buying Cech, and also Ronaldinho and Ronaldo too if you believe everything you hear.

He's not and never will be a left winger. He looks really good for us when he's playing from the right or in behind a striker. He's certainly not a left winger but can play well as a left sided forward in the Holland or Ajax 4-3-3 formation.

God held up and walked in just after the penalty...assumed that would be it for the day!

Nice to see the midfield collectively banging them in so far this season.

Clichy was brilliant. Diaby was excellent until 'that' miss!

Couldn't see the red card incident properly but will be watching MOTD2 tonight.

All in all an excellent day

I wouldn't say not signing Babel was a clanger by Wenger just yet. No offence to Derby, but they can make lots of players look good. Derby are the Watford of last season without the fighting spirit.

He's been good every time I've seen him, not just yesterday.
