Pederson would be a great buy. It's in the Mirror today apparently. £8m would be quite reasonable too.

In other, less good news:

Gilberto Silva admits he was 'surprised' Arsene Wenger failed to tell him he would not be Arsenal's captain this season.

...

"He didn't say anything to me and I just found out about it that evening when I saw it on the Arsenal website."

Bit of a shitty way to handle it, especially as he was vice-captain last year and a seemed a certainty to get it this year.

Luckily he's a top bloke:

"I wasn't upset about not being captain, but I was about the way I learnt about it."

He added: "I will give the same commitment to the club that I always have. This is an important season."

Imagine if it was the other way round and Gallas was snubbed. Don't think he would be so calm about it.

Probably not. I think it would have been less of a snub though, Gilberto must've been favourite.

That said, I do think it could prove to be the best decision. It keeps Gallas sweet (galling, I know, but wise) and I think he's the better leader and motivator. He seemed to be in the mix on Sunday and up for it.

I meant if the whole situation was reversed, if Gallas was vice captain and expected to be captain and found out he wasn't via the internet.

I do sort of agree. The captain should be someone who isn't afraid to have a go at people and get people going and Gallas fits the bill. Something Vieira, Henry and Gilberto (in his short spell last season) didn't really do.

I ran your "he's a cunt and the captain needs to be a bit of a cunt" theory past the boys on Sunday and they seemed to buy it. You may be on to something.

Sounds bad when I read it back  but I think there's truth in it. I don't think he'll let anyone coast along, You can see how losing really gets to him. I hope he finds the right balance and maintains (finds?) his own form.

Actually I think you are spot on and to be honest what you said changed my mind completely on the subject. I was shocked that he picked Gallas but he is probably more captain material than anyone else.

I remember we was 4-0 up at Blackburn once and right at the end of the game Vivas (remember him) let someone he was marking at a corner go and they scored and Tony Adams went mental at him shouting and screaming and waving his arms. You could see Vivas looking at him thinking "this guy's mental". It was so over top that he said in his program notes in the next game that he apologised to Vivas. But that is a captain's role. Perhaps that is a bit over the top but since he left there doesn't seem to be anyone on the pitch who will shout at anyone. Nobody gets told if they fuck up. With so many young players you don't need a big rant, but if they make a mistake they need to be told. And Gallas will do that more than anyone.

I remember him doing similar in a game versus Leeds. He lost Hasselbaink as the far post, he scored and our title charge ended right there and then. I think it was possibly his last game for the Club  .

Muppet.

Does anyone else think Sanchez looks like Ronnie Kray, or is it just me?

Squad for tomorrow is the same as Sunday only we've added Hoyte and Traore. This means we are still missing for one reason or another Da Silva, Adebayor, Diaby, Denilson and Gilberto.

There's some quality players there.

He wants to apologise for what happened after the penalty too, that was simply a disgrace.

Oh my God, I've been saying that ever since Sunday! He's the spitting image  . My missus, who wouldn't know Sanchez or probably Kray, looked at him and said something along the lines of 'bloody hell, what's that?' :D .

I'm not sure if the injuries are a cause for concern or just precaution :( .

got a spurs fan here who correctly predicted last nights result and said before the start of the season that they'd LOSE their first 3 games... 8)

Derby at home? I guess anything is possible but if they lose that their next game is Man Utd away. Bad times (for them). They will struggle until they get some players back from injury and they decide what to do with their forward line.

Anyway enough about the scum, this is the Arsenal thread and we have a game today.

Apparently Mark Hughes wants at least £16 million for Pedersen, if the papers are to be believed and we are even actually going for him.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/200...89520-19632757/

The Gunners are being linked with the Norway winger, but Hughes said they would have to more than double their valuation to tempt Blackburn into selling.

He said: "Morten isn't going anywhere for £8m considering the price of players this summer."

I'm not sure about £16 million but when you look at a few of these he's got a bit of a point really.

Mido - £6.8mill agreed with Boro apparently

D Bent - £16.5mill

Reo-Coker £8.5mill

Diomansky Kamara - £6mill

Babel - £11.5mill

Torres - £30mill

Bianchi - £8.8mill

Elano - £8mill

Anderson - £18mill

Nani - £14mill

Enrique - £6.3mill (Newcastle)

Nugent - £4.5mill

Chopra - £5mill

Bellamy - £7.5mill

Koumas - £5.3mill

Ribery - £16mill

Drenthe - £10mill or so

There's a lot of good players there, but Pedersen has got experience in the PL, he's been consistently good for the time he's been here, he's 25 and scores a few and sets up a few.

A lot of the above are loads more risky buys than Pedersen would be.

So it seems if we are to buy him we'll need to get the cheque book out and stop looking for small change we might have lying around.

I reckon they would take £12m. Not sure if he is worth that but I guess looking at the list you posted £12m wouldn't be completely ridiculous.

I was thinking £12m. Possibly £9m and Flamini?

Actually, on that subject, I quite like Flamini. OK, he pissed us off last season with what he said but he's got a good engine, likes a tackle and isn't bad on the ball. He keeps things moving along quite nicely. I also like his body language and the way he gets involved. When Kolo won that penalty he was in there telling everyone to keep calm etc. and when it kicked off with their keeper he was in the thick of it.

Having said I'm not sure he's a starter every week and I'd sacrifice him to get Pederson.

I suppose I would sacrifice Flamini if it meant getting Pedersen, but I quite like him for the same reasons you've said.

Can't they take Song Bilong Billibong Bong Bong instead?
