1351: GOAL Arsenal 2-1 Fulham

They left it late but turned it round. Cesc Fabregas clips a lofted pass into the box where Alexander Hleb controls, takes his time, ignores options either side and scores.

Love it Hleb, fucking love it!

With hindsight, more or less the perfect start.

Stupid mistake for the goal.

Chance after chance.

Looks like we'll lose.

Then we make the breakthrough and it's all rosy. Buried some demons from last year. I think the result and performance will bring belief to the squad.

As per previous posts, the Fulham reaction was cringeworthy. Stupid and they got what they deserved. Nowt :) .

Hleb :):)

Yep. I have said lots of times that i'm a big Hleb fan but don't want to see him out wide anymore. Glad he got the goal, reckon he will push on well from here.

Of course, if he hadn't scored (when he had other options either side) I might have had to kill him.

Lehmann is such a cock, almunia and fabianski have got to be given a go surely! Hleb played really well, this new formation has given him a new lease of life. And what a penalty from van persie, but then i'm not suprised really he's top dog. I wish either diaby or denilson played though. :)

Overall it was vital that we got off to a good start and now we need to push on

From the BBC...

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is threatening legal action against Real Madrid over an illegal approach for Cesc Fabregas. (News of the World)

Good. Hope this is true. Would love to see those fuckers come unstuck at last.

Arsenal have lined-up a swoop for Celtic keeper Artur Boruc as Jens Lehmann's long-term successor. (People)

Unfortunatly things like this never come off. None of the big teams in football ever get punished for anything, seems the rule of thumb.

Obviously there's the whole Italian football scandal but that ended up being pretty pathetic, looking at it a year on.

True enough.

More imprtantly; surely the goalie rumour can't be true? How many do we want?

What a relief. Like last season all over again but more extreme. Giving a (stupid) goal away in the very first minute and scoring the winner right at the death after battering the opposition. Only downside of the day is that my twat of a mate convinced me not to do my Fulham half time-Arsenal Full time bet which was 28/1. My own fault for listening to him I guess. And I got punched in the mouth while celebrating the winner but hey, it's part of the fun I guess.

Lessons from yesterday:

Hleb in the middle. Only.

Cesc is the man.

We can't defend.

EDIT: Cesc is indeed the man. Check out his face here. He's so excited he looks like he may explode.

Punched by a Fulham fan?

No, sorry if I wasn't clear. Just punched accidentally by my mate in the madness after the second goal. Was worth it though.

Actually it was the same mate who told me not to do the bet. I'm so gonna kick him in the nuts the next time we score a last minute winner.

Having said how great Hleb was and how he needs to play in the middle I have noticed watching again that at the point he scored Hleb had been playing out on the wing, which allowed Cesc to have some space for teh first time in the game.

Now i'm confused!

bendtner - looks like a bit of a farmer, but he does give us something different when he comes on and is the first striker i can remember who challenges the keeper physically since that fat cunt john hartson. he's the kind of striker we need when playing against the lower orders who tend to mix it up a bit more and resist our ballet-style football.

tbh i don't think many people covered themselves in glory yesterday - theo looked one of our most potent threats on the right when he came on, he actually fucking ran at people. i don't think anybody played that terribly either jens aside, but it was very much a three stars out of five day.

i still think eboue is a cunt and we *desperately* lack width. hleb looked better as a support striker but when you look at the united and chelsea squads we are light years behind in quality. i would bite someone's hand off for third.

please god - can we sign a winger?

Hmm, a bit harsh on Eboue there I thought his movement was great and put in a few good crosses as well. His give and go with Sagna was good, give them some time together and there will be left backs suffering nervous breakdowns.

Good to see Theo running at the defense as well, although was a bit worried to see him lose ground to Konchesky like that, he should have at least tested the keeper.

And as for Bendtner? I'm a fan. Arseblog's description as a 'bull in a china shop' is spot on - he really seems to agitate defenders and is powerful as hell. Just glad that he didn't take the penalty

We'll have to take our changes if only to stop le boss getting injured - his slip after doing the 360 in anger was priceless

Yes, I had to try and convince my brother (non supporter) that it was all planned!

If only Wenger had launched into one of these he would have believed you.

Hleb is a funny one. He doesn't really have enough pace to play on the wing and looks better down the middle but for me, doesn't have enough about him physically to play there and despite the goal his finishing needs to be better to play there. Bendtner troubled them more in his short spell than Hleb did. But I do rate Hleb and he has got a lovely touch and can really pick a pass. Like I say, it's a bit of a funny one.

Eboue looked like a right back playing right wing. Really looked out of position. I'd love to see a left winger sign and push Rosicky to the right. Replace Flamini with Gilberto or Diaby, Hleb with Adebayor/Eduardo/Bendnter in that order and that's a very good 1st 11:

Lehman (for now, assuming he doesn't make more stupid mistakes.)

Sagna Gallas Toure Clichy

Rosicky Cesc Gilberto/Diaby A new left winger

Van Persie Adebayor

Hmm...

I'm wanting to see more of Hleb but don't disagree on a new winger. But then who does?

Maybe its just too early to tell.

Random rumour..

Arsenal have made a shock £7m offer for Blackburn Rovers winger Morten Gamst Pedersen. Apparently any deal would have to include a player swap. Mark Hughes sees Gunners striker Nicklas Bendtner and midfielder Mathieu Flamini as potential make-weights but would still demand a cash sum on top.
