Arsenal

Unofficial reports subsequently emerged late on July 31 suggesting that Arsenal would take up this option immediately, having failed to lure their unknown primary target for the left wing. They purportedly will pay £8 million for the player.

Who could that be then?

Babel??

Gallas has annoyed me because he was bitching for so long about how we have no ambition and now that there's a chance he could become captain, he's constantly arse licking. Toure is my vote for captain allday, the man is arsenal through and through and by far our most consistent palyer. Plus he leads by example and always gives 110%

I hear what you're saying about Toure and yes he is Arsenal through and through, but surely Gilberto Silva is the best choice.

No not really, Gilberto done a good job as captain but i feel toure would be best for the team. He makes those mad runs from defence which gets the crowd and the team going and thats a quality of a captain. Gilberto is to calm and quite.

Toure is God. I love him so much.

I just think that the captaincy wouldn't change his game, or his attitude. He'd still be the same. Quality through and trough. And a leader.

With Gilberto it seemed to add something to his game. Probably his best season at the Club. I always said that for a World Cup winner he didn't take proper responsibility. He was always very safe. With the armband he grew and it made him better in every way.

I'd say Gilberto as captain.

Second choice Toure.

Gallas, I think we'd be compromising to make him captain, so no.

Gilberto is a good choice and yes he was superb as captain last year.

The Diarra deal could be true. (according to the Sun)

http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2002390...7360692,00.html

At first I thought this was a shit deal, but the more I think about it and after reading an article a few days ago (can't find it now) it is starting to make sense.

there was something about this.

The apparent Claude Makelele understudy has turned his nose up at several Chelsea contract offers this summer and today has only 11 months left on his contract. Obviously there is now a Bosman risk for the player and with so little time remaining on his contract, Chelsea would have little leverage with which to negotiate terms. Arsene Wenger has held a long interest in the player and would have been very impressed with Diarra’s performance in the France engine room alongside Abou Diaby against Austria in March 07. France boss Raymond Domenech sees this tandem as the future for the French midfield and as very pending replacements for the current engine room of Makelele and Patrick Vieira (… and the circle of life continues).

Also it said how Mourinho badly wanted to sign Diaby, before we got him, so he could eventually play them both in central midfield together.

If it is true and we do get him, I'm not sure where this would leave Cesc, (who surely has to be the first name on Wengers team sheet) Gilberto and Denilson, not to mention Flamini and Song.

Gallas has been officially made captain. How odd.

OH. First we get a captain who seems to want to fuck off from the word go (TH) and now Gallas? I can only imagine some of his team talks...

"we are 1-0 down, get on with it you kids, I knew we needed to spend during the summer. Anyone seen my earing?"

I'm not too upset. Gallas has the potential to be a decent captain and I'd prefer to have a centre half in charge instead of a midfielder. Don't get me wrong, I though Gilberto was a pretty decent captain last season and I'd go for Touré over Gallas myself but maybe Touré didn't want to step up to the role?

Gallas ^_^ . I can only think that Wenger hopes it will focus him. We haven't seen a fully fit and motivated Gallas, maybe this will give him an extra 10%. I know he's had some daft things to say but I think it shows he desperately wants to win. And a centre half as captain does make sense.

I'd have given it to Gilberto or Toure though.

Just read an interesting piece.

Clubs are rumoured to be in for Gilberto, as we know. He was the Captain elect. Gallas has now been made Captain. So are we planning on selling Gilberto?

My opinion is that it's unlikely. We've made a profit in the market so any new signing shouldn't really need to be funded by a sale. And Gilberto is probably the most senior player and is experienced and respected. The only way we might sell is if he's not first choice and we're letting him leave for first team football. That would probably mean Cesc and Diaby are the central pairing, backed up by Flamini and Denilson.

It's all guesswork but interesting if only cos nothing else is happening ^_^ .

Jesus, will the season start already!
