Gunnerblog has an interesting look at Arsene's post-PSG talk including the Anelka discussion:

I felt that we have the strikers we need, and that I wanted a striker like Eduardo who can play on the flanks, and can play with Anelka, or with Adebayor, or with Van Persie, and that’s why we have gone for Eduardo, and it was more a question of choice - nothing to do with the quality of Anelka. I rate him very very highly. It was just we had Adebayor, Bendtner, Van Persie playing in the same position.

And from Arsenal.com the same quote with an important piece of info missing:

"I felt we had the strikers we needed, and also I wanted a player like Eduardo, who can play on the flanks and with Adebayor, or with van Persie. That is why we have gone for Eduardo. It was more a question of choice rather than the quality of Anelka, because I rate him very very highly. It was just we have Adebayor, Bendtner and Eduardo who play in the same position."

Probably nothing...

Lovely goal from Van Persie there.

Very nice.

Verdict, then?

Thought we did well. Gibbs is one to keep an eye on. Hleb impressed again and finally pulled the trigger  . Eboue did well. van Persie, as mentioned above, scored a cracker and looked lively, considering his recent injury.

Not bad, overall  .

Just got back. It was a really good game and the atmosphere was good, i'm glad it didn't rain. Van persie looked lively allday and his goal was top top class! He will push on this season and get close to 20 goals this season.

I have to say that Sagna really impressed me, he looks completely solid and boy does that guy have pace! Going on his performance today i've gotta say that he should be first choice right back. Eboue had an ok game he fucked up alot, i don't believe he is the answer to right midfield. Hleb had a great game and he capped that great game with a goal, i must admit i was suprised that he was shooting

Overall the team played well and there are alot of positives to come out of the game.

I thought Eboue looked great playing above Sagna, he caused Inter no end of problems in the first half and set up Hlebs goal in the second. Great debut for Gibbs too, lovely cushioned pass for Flaminis shot - he also had a good game (I do like Flamini). All in all a promising performance given its still pre-season.

I disagree, eboue had an ok game but he did give the ball away alot and his passing was a bit off, hopefully he's just rusty but on that performance hes not the right winger everyone is hoping for. SWP would be though.....

Eboue's not afraid to run at defenses, which isn't something we have much of, particularly sans Henry. He drew three yellow cards in the first half alone and constantly had the Inter defense looking nervous. I think he'll do very well for us in that position. I wouldn't mind SWP either but can't see it happening, what happened to the alleged bid for Diarra?

Unexpected postives for me:

Sagna, looking very solid against admittedly a nowhere near fit Inter.

Hleb looked very happy in the shadow striker position.

Gibbs fitting in well on his debut.

Eboue looking good (on TV anyway) as a winger.

Bendtner against PSG scoring a tap in.

Flamini working hard in the DMF position.

More importantly the team looked fit, happy and driven, against an Inter team way off the pace.

Negatives?

We still need goal scoring wingers IMO.

Bendtner at best occasionally seems lazy at worst dis-intersted...interesting to watch him develop this season.

Gallas probably knows he should of stopped Inter's goal.

I dunno how gallas gets the armband over toure, toure is a natural leader and is very consistent. Hopefully bendtner will get better as the season progresses. I don't want diarra. Eboue may have looked good on t.v but he was within touching distance of me and i personally thought that he didn't play that great.

I went to the emirates cup yesterday as my best mates a gooner and I really wanted to see Valencia (how disappointed was I!) so I went with him. Enjoyable day, great stadium you've got there I must say. I'm a fan of Van Persie, always have been, his goal was incredible and we were sitting in the blue section, upper tier when he scored it!

Anyway, there was one thing that bugged the hell out of me and I kept asking my mate if it bothered him but he was too busy grinning after V.Persie's goal...Eboue's play acting! Now, if I was an Arsenal fan that would bug the absolute fuck out of me. Every single time he gets fouled he rolls around like someone's just blown his knee cap off with a rocket launcher. He's a decent player, someone seriously needs to take him to one side and stop him doing that in my opinion. I've noticed him do it loads in that past, but seeing it first hand and in a friendly...It's totally ridiculous.

Any of you gooners have issues with him?

absolutely. it does my fucking head in and it's really embarrassing. it was getting to the point last season where i was beginning to actively dislike the guy, and very rarely happens to me with arsenal players. he is a cheaty little cunt and it's not nice at all.

Thank god for that! I thought it might have just been me trying to pick holes in my mates team! I know alot of people do it these days, but he really is something else! People who work with the team must have said something to him about it?!

Just like to say Van Persie's goal was quality and he's my tip (probably lots of others) for golden boot this coming season.

He won't get golden boot, he's not the kind of player that will get you 30 in a season but he is a fantastic player and will definitely help you boys make a challenge for the title if he stays fit. A defenders worst nightmare.

Eboue pisses me off alot, he is a cheating prick but is a good player. I wouldn't be suprised if Van persie was top goal scorer in the league next season, he has really improved in the last 2 years and has definately made it easier on wenger to let henry go.

...er, I can't remember. Shall we go back to the Liverpool thread now?

Heh, yeah good idea. You're a Hastings lad aren't ya? If Van Persie is top league goal scorer this season you can treat me to some Blue Dolphin godness!

Don't. It makes me want to cry.

:P

What a pleasure to have had that man playing his heart out for our team, for the best years of his career. Staggeringly good footballer. That Newcastle goal is the best I've ever seen. Poetry in motion, a man at the very top of the game.

There was a European goal, I think Fred scored it against an Italian side at Highbury (I'll try to find out details). Dennis picked the ball up on the corner of the box, and within a space of about 6 inches tied a couple of defenders in absolute knots before flicking a pass - you, know, the most killer pass, timed to utter perfection - with the outside of his boot for Fred to score. I could watch the footwork for an hour, easily.
