Rumours from the BBC website

Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg is set to join West Ham for either £3m (Daily Mail), £3.5m (The Sun), £4m (Daily Express) or £5m. (Daily Mirror)

Between them they seem to have it covered.

Can't really see it happening, but Pedersen from Blackburn anyone?

He would fill the Freddie sized hole quite nicely.

I am slightly worried that we've lost another senior pro who had Arsenal in his heart. I'd love a Parlour, Keown or Adams right now, just for what they'd bring in terms of mentality.

It's official, not on the Arsenal website as usual but it is on the West Ham website.

He was our longest serving player wasn't he?

Who is it now, Gilberto?

Didn't Toure join earlier? Not that he played much or anything.

Toure joined February 2002 with Gilberto coming that summer, so Kolo is the longest serving player by a few monnths.

I'm nodding my head. Hleb is highly unlikely to chip in with more than half a dozen, if that. Same for Walcott this coming season. Rosicky could get goals. None of the central players look like they have goals in them. I think Gilberto's contribution last term was a one of.

Unless he plays something like 4-3-3, say van Persie and Eduardo wide with Adebayor central and takes the emphasis off the midfield. I still agree though, hobo. It's interesting that he's not in for Wright-Phillips. I think he would be worth a punt and we were apparently interested before he went for £silly.

You're kidding right? I think what he said is spot on - the club lack ambition.

I've been saying this, but it's a tight one when you consider the money we've spent on the stadium. Considering all the money is self generated (ie no foreign sugar daddy) we've done extremely well to make the move a success and it sets us up nicely. I think it shows ambition.

The real point is that Fred comes across as a bit soppy for coming out with it in public. Let's not forget the Club and the fans were incredibly loyal and loving towards him and he was earning a fair old wage too.

The club do not lack ambition.

Just because we are a bit skint lately due to the massive long term step/leap forward with the stadium and haven't been able to buy as we probably would have liked, in my opinion this doesn't make us lacking in the ambition department.

I think Wenger and the team he is building will prove to be very hungry and ambitious.

No real big time charlies, just good pros, Gilberto, Rosicky, Toure etc and some youngsters who must be hungry for success and a chance to show what they can do, Cesc, Theo, Denilson, Diaby, Clichy etc.

I think he's well within his rights to say what he said. He hardly said, 'Yeah Arsenal are going down the fucking toilet and I'm jumping off a sinking ship.'

Almost..

"When Thierry left it felt like the end. I had a lot of clubs in for me in the summer but always stayed loyal," he said.

"But I felt it was the right time to go. When I signed my last contract two years ago we talked about the future, building a new stadium and bringing in top players, but it didn't really happen.

It's a sly and unnecessary dig.

In better news..

On Monday afternoon, Arsenal director Danny Fiszman released the following statement.

“Over the past few months there has been much ill-informed speculation about my shareholding in Arsenal. I publicly stated my position back in April and to eradicate any uncertainty supporters may have, I would like reiterate exactly where my position is again.

“I have been a member of the Board for 15 years now. The Club has experienced many successes both on and off the pitch in that time and being part of the Arsenal family is something that is not only in my mind but also in my heart. I, together with the rest of the Board take great pride in the fact that Emirates Stadium is our home and great pleasure in the exciting, entertaining football that the team plays.

“The Board is a strong unit; we are the custodians of this Club. In April we entered into an agreement not to dispose of our interests for at least one year with the intention retaining our interests thereafter. In short, I have no intention of selling my shares in Arsenal for the foreseeable future. There are exciting times ahead with the team showing so much promise, we are energised by what the future holds. I hope now that my position is absolutely clear.”[/quote

That's the only bit the cunts press will take note off.

The time was right for freddie to go, i personally would love to see SWP in an arsenal shirt, he's alot better thsn hleb and can take on a team on his own. He would flourish at arsenal and i hope we go in for him even if it costs 10mil

Wenger said: "It's unbelievable how much money has been spent. There's a lot of money out there and I'm just looking to develop the players we have here.

"Just in central midfield we have Abou Diaby, Denilson, Cesc Fabregas, Mathieu Flamini and Gilberto. On the wings we can play Aleksandr Hleb, Theo Walcott, Tomas Rosicky and Emmanuel Eboue. So we have plenty.

"All these players are on the way up, getting better and better. They are not over the hill. Their level is still rising. And it is not necessarily the case that because a club spends £50m they are any better.

"Whenever I look at a potential new player, the question I always ask myself is: 'Is he good enough to win the League?' If he isn't, I don't buy him."

Wenger's ability to turn raw youngsters into big guns is unquestioned.

Nicolas Anelka, Patrick Vieira, Henry and Fabregas stand testament to that - but Ljungberg like most Arsenal fans will be studying the accounts and asking why Arsenal, who finished fourth again last year, have only spent £13.5m on Eduardo Da Silva, Bacary Sagna and Lukasz Fabianski this summer while champions Manchester United have splashed out £48m on Nani, Anderson, Owen Hargreaves and, possibly, Carlos Tevez.

Liverpool have spent £36m on Fernando Torres, Ryan Babel, Yossi Benayoun and Lucas Leiva, Nikolay Mihaylov and Andriy Voronin. Even Chelsea, who made three free signings, have spent £14m on Florent Malouda, while neighbours Spurs have spent over £30m on Gareth Bale, Younes Kabul and Darren Bent.

But Wenger stoically insists: "The challenge is the same. The other sides can only play 11 players at the start of the game."

It looks like we might not be buying a wide man after all. Surely we are short there.

Sorry, but his comments aren't convincing. I really like Hleb and want him to proove everyone wrong but we need a winger, i'm sure of it.
