I take the point, but they need to do more than beat Wrexham 3-2

It's a start though for a new look youth system that has not produced anything since Gerrard. Benitez seems to be adopting Wenger methods in regard to spreading the net far and wide to pick up young talent.

Gallas talks bollocks........................again.

http://www.arseblog.com/WP/index.php

I like Gallas and think he is a superb footballer, but he don't half talk shit sometimes. Surely he is the moaniest fucker we've got at the club.

What he is saying is not far off, but surely these are things that should stay between him and Wenger or at least stay in the changing room between the team.

He's got to back up all this talk with a big season no doubt about that.

absolutely.

'the penis of william gallas' character on the arsecast fair made me shit myself laughing when i was listening to it in the middle of sainsbury's on saturday. i bow down to his magnificence and expert marshalling of the back four.

I would be gutted if he came to England but not Arsenal as he's already said he would like to play for us one day and he does look a good player.

That said though, if Wenger's not interested then he aint coming to us whether Liverpool want him or not.

Gallas is pissing me off with all of his whining. I would hate to see Babel playing for another premiership big club, he wouldn't play for arsenal if he joined liverpool he'd probably stay there for most of his career

Yes, exactly. After what he said recently I'd like to think we'd go all out to get him. Having said that, is he worth the £13.5m being quoted and does Wenger even fancy him? All the talk has come from the player.

I'd be more than a little annoyed if we didn't get him. We don't seem to sign stars or high profile players anymore. There's no signings to give the fans a buzz like a Bergkamp, Platt (ok, he turned out to be average) or an Overmars.

It seems like it's just a matter of time before Liverpool wrap the Babel signing up. Bellamy has just joined West Ham for £7.5m and Cisse left yesterday so it seems like they have offloaded who they wanted to before doing this deal. They seem to have met the price so I guess that's it. Shame as he looks a good player, a real Arsene type.

Strange, it seemed to be a matter of time before we bought him. Perhaps we were never realy interested. After all it's all just been paper talk and we've not heard from Wenger to say he wants him. But suddenly his price has shot up from £4m-£6m to £13.5m so perhaps that explains things too.

I still think we need one or maybe even two new signings before the season starts.

EDIT:

Arsenal could complete the signing of Bakary Sagna from Auxerre today, according to reports in France.

French daily 'L'Equipe' say the 24-year-old right-back is currently in London and is ready to complete a medical once the two clubs agree on a fee. The highly-rated defender, who is expected to cost the Gunners around £7.5m, is tipped to become Willy Sagnol's long-term replacement at right-back in the France side.

In June he was called up to the squad to face Ukraine and Georgia in the Euro 2008 qualification campaign, but failed to win his first cap.

Auxerre expect Sagna back in training at the end of the week if he does not tie up the switch to the Emirates Stadium.

Strange one this. He must be a really, really good right back for us to spend £7.5m to strengthen a position we don't really need to. Or maybe he's gonna play him centre back and tell Gallas to fuck off.

EDIT 2: Or maybe Wenger just likes his hair.

It seems the deal for Bakary Sagna is all but done. The article also says Martins is next.

Also if the other story below is true Freddie could be off to Fiorentina for £5.5mil. Surely we should accept this.

Even if all this does happen, I still think we need a wide man to play on the left.

Babel seems an obvious solution to this so I find it a bit strange Wenger hasn't made a move. I suppose he knows something none of us do or maybe Walcott is ready to be a regular.

Isn't he right footed though?

The transfer window doesn't close for ages yet but it's a bit frustrating when you see all these two bob clubs splashing the cash.

Apparently Freddie would have to take a missive pay cut for this move to happen (even though he would be the highest paid player at the club) so a deal might be tricky to hammer out. Whilst I appreciate what he's done for the club £5.5 million for one of our squad players is bloody good business.

I'd still like to see us get Martins as well, an out and out striker who will convert the assists that Eduardo seems to be all to capable of providing.

Also, that Mail article describes Sagna as a 'powerful centre back' who can provide cover 'across the back four'. It also mentions that our spending this summer will be around £35 mil if we do go in for Martins. Mix those 2 ingredients to make a large dose of 'shut the fuck up' for Gallas to digest.

You write the London Lite and I claim my five pounds.

I still don't want martins, i jus don't see the point in signing another african striker. 7.5mil seems alot for "cover" i reckon he'll be pushing for a starting position, either right back or centre back. Give eboue and hoyte some proper competition

Do we need 3 right backs though?

Maybe Eboue will play right mid and chalenge Hleb/Freddie?

Is Rosicky being stuck out on the left and Walcott for competition enough?

That's why I'm a bit gutted/confused about this Babel to Liverpool story.

The Sun has a good picture today but the bastards won't let me link it. Here is the link: http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2002390...7310809,00.html

This is quite interesting:

His arrival comes as Gunners midfielder Freddie Ljungberg looks set to complete a £5.5million move to Fiorentina.

and

Sagna’s arrival will mean a move into midfield for Emmanuel Eboue, who will fill the gap left by Ljungberg’s departure.

Eboue is much better suited on the wing as he isn't a great defender. Can you imagine the damage his maraudering runs down the flank will cause? If he improves his final ball he will be one hell of a winger.

It could be a master stroke.

Remember when he broke into the side? Everyone around me was like, 'where the hell did we get this lad from'? Then we slowly realised he couldn't defend but on the ball and in terms of pace he's fantastic. I wonder if Wenger played him at right back to drill the defensive side into him and help him become the all round right sided midfielder. Maybe not, but it will have helped.

Arsenal are being strongly linked with signing France Under 21 international Yoan Gouffran.

The Caen striker will reportedly join The Gunners on a four-year deal but return to the French club on loan for the coming season.

Gouffran was the Ligue 2 Player of the Year last term as his 15 goals helped fire Caen back into France's top-flight.

The highly-rated attacker was close to joining Auxerre last summer, while Chelsea and Valencia are admirers of the 21-year-old.

Paris Saint Germain could rival Arsenal for Gouffran's signature but reports suggest Arsene Wenger will land the starlet.

Gouffran is believed to be costing Arsenal in the region of €3million (£2million).

Probably signing him to keep Gallas happy <_< .

Did anyone else think he was rubbish last season though? (admittedly against his own high standards)

Im not to sure about this conversion to winger business but I would love to be proved wrong...

...actually bit harsh, wasnt rubbish, just didnt seem to maraude the flanks as much as I expected...

Not rubbish, just shown up as not a natural defender. On the ball he's a magician at times and has pace to burn. If he can cut out the cheating (please, please) he could make it big.

I thought some of his crosses last year were great (*cough* Man U *cough*).

Just had some very, very bad news. I am waiting for someone to send me a picture to confirm it and when they do I will post it up, but it's not really worth it now as nobody would believe me.

Shit. <_<
