The thing with Flamini is that he's not the greatest talent and he's possibly not imposing enough to play in the middle. But he does like a tackle and he rolls his sleeves up (literally) and gives you everything. At left back he was great but that was never a permanent thing, surely. Although he threw a hissy fit and that took him right down in my estimation I would look at moving him to right back to fight it out with Hoyte and free up Eboue. There would be no outlay and I bet his wages are low. Plus he's settled in the Prem.

Dunno, maybe he was right to look to move on. No point playing at left back for the sake of it, in a way fair play to him for refusing. He's at the age where he needs to be playing too. Weren't there rumours of Juve being interested, among others? I suspect he got excited about that and then realised he wasn't really in demand and piped up with 'I can play right back'.

I know exactly what your saying, thanks. I'm not answering myself either. We all know United are in more debt than some countries (it's easy to find out more or less the exact details of that debt and the repayments) and adding to that debt to such extent exposes them to risk. That was my only observation, nothing more nor less. You commented on it being four players. If they'd bought one player or eight it's still the same amount of money, it's irrelevant. They are actually significantly in debt and spending like money is going out of fashion. I was pointing that out. I'm not saying I've got a problem with it, necessarily. It strengthens them significantly, that will test the other teams.

I do think that this mega spending is no good for the game but then again I often wish Arsenal would spend big.

I still think buying four players isn't a big deal, however much they cost. It isn't a team replacing purchase, it is a team improving one. Such things cost money.

And yes, it was Blinky that was answering himself. He does that.

But I'll leave it. Arsenal ftw.

No worries mate, it's all good chat. I know what you mean, I agree to a lot of it.

My main point is the money they are borrowing to buy these players and the debt they already have. I wonder how you can sustain it, and Arsenal fans know all about having debt.

Anyway, all the best.

OK, a little question for the Arsenal fans. Or anyone else, actually.

In order of preference and given the current squad, which players would you like to see back in their prime? Most preferred first, and in order from there..

Adams

Bergkamp

Henry

Pires

Vieira

Wright

Posted in alphabetical order to avoid influence  . I'll post mine after a few replies, ie I'm still thinking about it  .

Adams

The top 2 are set in stone, there'll never be another player like TA at Arsenal or at any club.

I'm thinking Adams as number one choice.

I can't belive I've put Adamf 4th by the way, disgraceful. I'm ashamed of myself.

All fantastic players, can't we have all of them?

Ashamed? So you should be

And agreed, we'd love all of them back.

Superb question

Thanks!

I kind of wish I hadn't asked now cos I'm more or less thinking any one of them could be the first pick. I could really go on about it for paragraphs and paragraphs.

It's a tricky one 'cos as you said 'in their prime' they were all fantastic players at their best.

I'll take any of them now.

And also cos they need to fit in today. I mean, I was thinking Wrighty as possibly last. But then I almost see Eduardo as the new Wrighty. Quality player, scores great goals plus a poacher. Then Adams. I mean, what better player to grab everyone by the scruff of the neck and demand they give 110%? And his prime was what, aged 17 to 35? Pires gave me the best season I've seen from a player. Bergkamp is just a pure one of. Vieira, again, in his position you couldn't touch him. He was a machine. With Henry we saw the best of the best.

I'm struggling here but loving the opinions.

Anyone got a wildcard to throw in? I'm thinking not Rocastle cos as much as he'd be my top choice by a zillion miles it's an unfair shout.

I'm going to have to disagree with you there.

I think what you meant is 210%

What a player Adams was eh?

I wonder what he would have made of the Ashley Cole (cunt) shenanigans?

Rumours suggest that when Gerrard told Carragher he was going to Chelsea Carragher punched him the face. I've heard that from a few sources. I think Adams would have murdered Cole where he stood  .

For my 30th my parents bought me a massive signed Adams painting (well, limited edition print thing). Cost them a bit and my dad keeps an eye on things and reckons it's worth a pretty penny now. Not that that's the point. It's kind of, 'can I really hang this in my house?' and then you think about it and it takes pride of place. It'll all change when the missus moves in, mind.

Your Adams print sounds awesome as well. At least I can be proud to own the Henry shirt as he left a legend. A guy I know was on a gap year in Africa when he found out about Cole leaving - he gave his 'Cole 3' home shirt away the day he found out about his move!

EDIT: Here we go!

They've both denied that ever happening but I know for a fact Carragher decked Diouf (I'm talking spark out, flawless victory type stuff) over comments he'd made in the press, claiming he'd shamed the club. Stevie laid into Harry Kewell in training (after the Chelsea stuff) when his loyalty was questioned. This resulted in him offering to hand the captaincy over to Carra.

As for the wild card, how about Seaman? I know you all rate Jens but for me Seaman was one of the two best keepers playing in this country for a good ten year stretch.

that got a genuine, real life LOL.

i like flamini. also he has the best song in the world, which is to the sweeney theme tune:

'fla-me-nee!

fla-meee-neee!

dur dur dur dur dah dur dur dur'

I liked "this is the matty flamini society" to the tune of the self preservation society best myself.

See, you can't buy that sort of stuff (the exact opposite, infact). The closest thing we have recently is our board telling Kroenke 'we don't want your money' when refusing to keep his share at 12%. Despite all this talk of a new right back I want Hoyte to play there for this reason - a true gooner.

Of course, the only people who really have that passion are the fans - something we all have in common, eh?

What a shit story.

Real are set to appoint Bernd Schuster as successor to Fabio Capello - and he is believed to have told the club's hierarchy that he wants Cesc.

Probably him and every other manager in the world.

Real would only be too happy to oblige and sign the Gunners midfielder, but with Arsene Wenger set to stay put at Emirates - Cesc too looks like staying in North London.

What the fuck does this mean?

"Cesc has not considered an exit from Arsenal," he told AS.

"At the moment, there is neither an offer from Madrid for Cesc's services or any type of negotiation.

"It has been said that I have been at the Bernabeu to talk with Madrid about a move - but this is false.

So where's the story?

As for a wild card.

How about Keown or Bould?

We could do with one or both of those now, proper defenders they were.

Hot on the heels of Cesc's agent declaring that he'd had no contact with Real Madrid, some reports now indicate that Arsenal are willing to sell the star midfielder along with Jose Antonio Reyes.

Spanish sports newspaper Marca claims that Arsenal would consider a bid in the region of 40 million euros (£27m) from Real Madrid for the services of Francesc Fabregas and Jose Antonio Reyes.

Reyes, of course, spent much of last season on loan at the Bernabeu as a winger, while incoming coach Bernd Schuster is a reported fan of Cesc, a central midfield playmaker.

Cesc's agent has denied having any contact with Madrid, but that hasn't stopped Marca from speculating that Cesc could yet leave the Emirates as part of a two-fer deal involving Reyes.

As reported earlier, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger would apparently only countenance a solo deal for Cesc if Brazilian star Robinho came to North London in a swap deal. This seems highly unlikely at present.

It means Sky Sports are stirring the shit.

I have to say Cesc is my favourite player out of your lot, he's a massive talent and it'd be a shame not having him to watch in the premiership.

Well, unless he went to Juve but that's not going to happen, for this season at least.

Nothing exciting I'm afraid.

I thought Clichy might have been given number 3 but apart from that very predictable.

EDIT: Come to think of it, he was probably offered it but turned it down as he didn't want the number worn by that cunt.

I'm thinking it might be cos the home kit has stayed the same. When that changes the squad numbers might too.

Only a guess.

Gallas talks bollocks........................again.

http://www.arseblog.com/WP/index.php

I like Gallas and think he is a superb footballer, but he don't half talk shit sometimes. Surely he is the moaniest fucker we've got at the club.

What he is saying is not far off, but surely these are things that should stay between him and Wenger or at least stay in the changing room between the team.

He's got to back up all this talk with a big season no doubt about that.

Another point I enjoy reading this thread despite not being an Arsenal fan and talk of all the young players coming through there but where are Chelseas and Liverpools and Uniteds just doesn't seem to be happening not top class anyway. A few years down the line to me it's obious who will be better off.

Rafa Benitez has completely rebuilt Liverpools reserve side with potentially decent young players from around the world. Check out our game against Wrexham on Saturday for evidence of this.

I take the point, but they need to do more than beat Wrexham 3-2
