He seems to like drifting out to the left. Reminds me of someone else...

Hmm, who could that be? :)

youtube is obv. unreliable but from the video you posted he certainly has the skills to pay the bills. I'm trying to hold back the smile on my face, it looks like a nice little move right out of the blue.

Da Silva is a decent player but €24m is a lot ot money.

BTW Lucas, Rosicky had been linked with you for 2 years before you signed him but you could only afford him once Dortmund was in financial distress.

I doubt your sources there, with da Silva. And with Rosicky you don't spend over the odds on any player and the asking price was bonkers at one stage.

I prefer 'wise' *cough* Bent *cough*

o/\o

To be fair, I felt like Bent might be an option.

But when you look at the market for English players, and the equivalents you can get abroad (not a dig at these players, BTW).. Ferdinand or Toure, Hargreaves or Denilson/Cesc/Diaby, Bent or this new fella, any English (or Scottish!) keeper or our lad from Poland, Clichy or Cole (no brainer, that one!). You have to say that shipping abroad is, on the face of it, the sensible option. Naturally, you have to take a chance that they'll settle. But imagine an English player like Bergkamp, Vieira, Pires, Henry etc. How much would you have to pay for one of them?

Anyway..

I'd believe it could be €24m after add ons but unlikely to be upfront. Remember Reyes was supposed to be about £18m but was actually about £10m. Obviously i'm not hoping this guy plays well for six months then disapears like Reyes but Arsenal like a pay-as-you-go type deal. Works best for everyone.

Same with Walcott as well, we've only actually paid £5mil for him haven't we?

Yes I think that is right. £5m was the basic price and it goes up to £12m or something if he scores a million goals and we win the league, champions league, Eurovision song contest etc. etc.

Wow a player's agent not whoring him around. Makes a change.

Not saying this Da Silva guy is a world beater but Wenger always has a plan. This needs re-posting.

I think the transfer is worth €24million (£16.25million) from the money Arsenal got after selling Henry to Barcelona," said Barisic (Dinamo President).

He thinks? I think what he meant to say is I wish.

However, sources have told Sky Sports News that the fee for da Silva is closer to £8million.

That sounds a bit more likely.

Didn't Balaban have a good record in Croatia?

That's totally irelevant, Balabans record has nothing to do with Da Silva.

Reading the Dudes post, it seems that Balaban, good record or not, is/was never in the same league as Da Silva.

I know it's way too early to say, but Wenger could well have done it again.

Wenger knows.

Ultimately I couldn't care less about the fee.

£8m or £16m, if he bangs them in like he has done in Croatia then the money we pay is irrelevant. If he's a flop then £8m/£16m, it's not small potatoes either way. I wouldn't imagine that spending £16m would mean us not affording anyone else, I think Wenger now knows who he wants and that's it. This French defender looks like he's next. I think that might be the end of it then, unless we can negotiate a sane fee for Curtis Davies.

Why do you need Davies? Who is leaving out of the four central denfenders you got?

In my opinion Arsenal need a right back and a right winger.

We might pick up a right back to replace Eboue who Wenger might turn into a winger. An idea I'd fully support as Eboue can't defend too well but when he get's forward he does so at a crazy pace and can whip in a lovely cross or two.

Toure during the African nations, and lets not forget that Gallas is no spring chicken (and a bit of a tool at times). Davies would be an excellent signing at the right price.

So Toure is leaving for three weeks and you need to buy cover? Let me ring Jose and tell him he needs to spend £70M on cover for Drogba and Essien just for three weeks.

Arsenal don't have that kind of money to spend for cover, especially as they are lacking players in other postions.
