We simply aren't going to recover from this. Who are we going to buy? He's gone for the same money as Darren Bent is going to Spurs for.

We are a complete fucking joke, and the lack of ambition the club is displaying is a kick in the teeth for anyone who supports the club. I am seriously livid.

If he's gone, he's gone. His heart clearly wasn't in it last season before he got injured. I just hope we sign a replacement that understands the meaning of the word 'team'. But who do you sign to replace TH?

Lots of truth in that. And much as I love TH and don't want him to go I do think the team generally plays together better when he isn't about...

All the same we need a replacement...who? There better be a secret super signing up Wengers sleeve or things are even grimmer than they look right now.

Problem is that he obviously wanted out. Apparently being made the player he is and getting the captaincy isn't enough to lure him away from supposed CL capable winners.

The club wanted him to stay otherwise they wouldn't have given him a 125k a week contract last summer. But Wenger doesn't stand in a players way if they want to leave. It doesn't mean the club lacks ambition, it just means Henry's agent convinced him that a move would be good for him. Probably has nothing to do with the fortune the agent will make because of the transfer.... :D

The club existed 100+ years before Henry and we have never been about 1 player. If it's true then I've enjoyed watching Henry over the years and look forward to finding out who his replacement is going to be. I don't want a 18 year old wonder kid either, I want a ready made world class forward who can do the business NOW and not in 5 years time.

The problem is who that can be though...as mentioned above Bent went for £16 million.

Let's just put Freddie up front...works in Pro Evo :D

You know as well as I do that isn't going to happen. Even if the club decided to spend all this money as soon as it comes in, who is there available? Certainly no-one 'world class', or even approaching the finished article is attainable for £16m. Players like Henry are irreplaceable, and my biggest fear this summer was to lose him. We are a developing team, but to lose our best player this early will be fatal. A fit Henry would have been the difference between us mounting a serious bid for the title next year and battling for forth again, as it stands that appears to be in tatters. The club is in a downward spiral, and I don't like to think were we'll end up.

According to Sky, they expected to pay 10m Euros less than they have.

It just shows how incompetent the board and David Dein are. Those cunts in Madrid wanted to pay £30m+ for Vieira at one point and the board let him go on the cheap (admittedly it was the right time to sell), and last season we could have got £25-35m for Henry if we dug our heels in yet he's going to go for around £16m 12 months later? What a bunch of mugs.

Maybe it's time to let this Kroenke bloke in? Football isn't about the fans, passion and winning things anymore, it's about competing for trophies so the club remains in the spotlight (if you win a trophy it's a nice bonus) and finishing at least 4th (once again anything higher is a bonus). If billionaire owners are good enough for the likes of Villa, Man United & Liverpool then they are good enough for Arsenal.

The club either gets foreign investment and remains a top 4 team or stays in the hands of a stuffy old codger and we get UEFA cup football for the next decade.

I can't fucking believe it, i'm very shocked. I really hope we are selling him because he wishes to leave and that because it will free up funds for other players. You never know Reyes might come back now he won't have Henry moaning at him all the time!!

I agree about letting him go but its still pretty shit. He's our record goalscorer and arguably the best player the Premiership has seen, and no longer wants to be at our club. And 16 million is a slap in the face to be honest.

But Arsenal existed 8 years ago, and will go on despite this. I'm proud to be an Arsenal fan and just hope that we make the best out of this situation.

Good Luck Thierry, its been a pleasure

As mentioned earlier in this very thread - Klaas Jan Huntelaar of Ajax. I estimate he would be worth £20 million max and although he's a completely different type of player I think he would weigh in straight away next season with 20 goals + for Arsenal. He's old enough to be the real deal and young enough to be moulded by Wenger.

Even as a Liverpool fan I have to agree. Majestic to watch at his best but I firmly believe his best days are 100% behind him. We've seen him at his very pinnacle and although I'm sure he'll do well at Barca he'll never play there as well as he did a season or two ago in the Premier League.

I know, I was just trying to cheer myself up

It is a joke of a price to be honest. One of the best players in the world with 3(IIRC) years left on his contract - why aren't we standing up for ourselves?

I'm sorry but fuck that. If he does go (very likely it seems) we will fucking recover. I'll be devastated, especially seeing as I had one fucking huge argument with a spurs fan that Henry would be staying last weekend but also for the very obvious reasons that the lad has been one hell of a servant.

But to say we can't recover? What kind of fucking defeatist shit is that? Chin up lads! The team's a lot more then just Henry. Of course I pray to god we sign a decent forward now (tough ass task) but I won't want to be too glum about next season. We'll still have Fab and wenger, I'm sure of that (how quickly will that bite me in the ass) and we just have to believe that we've been supporting a team and not a player.

Sorry...I'm pissed up on booze so that's probably why I've rambled off a load of horse shit.

Theo, Tom, RVP, Kolofuckingtoure, Adebayor - we've still got some fucking great players and a bright future.

Not you Alex, fuck off.

Exactly! If this does all go through, for what seems a crazy price, we still have one hell of a team. I would fucking hate to see this demoralize both the fans and the players. Maybe that's inevitable perhaps...

I'll be in the crowd next season, singing myself hoarse! And as I said earlier on the thread I'd fucking love to come up against Barca in the Champions League.

And win with a Kolo 30 yard thunderbolt that also breaks Ronaldinho's legs, decapitates Messi, breaks the net and demolishes one end of the Nou Camp
