The fans all turned on two of those keepers, I particularly remember the term Flappy-Handski going around (may have even said it myself). Though the problem was we were shit defensively too as Cech didn't improve much either

I recall the flappyhandski era too, plus the stress of seeing Szczesny getting bored and going walkabout every time he felt like it - the fault there was definitely with our keeper coach, I think both have even gone on to blame him after leaving say they got actively better once they left and were away from him.

Martinez was just the desperation for a fee to fund Partey I believe.

This Balogun situation looks very much like it could turn into a Gnabry scenario.

I know he wants to play but Arteta can't, and shouldn't, exactly just start him because he might leave but we would be better off promoting him ahead of Nketiah and telling him he's now behind Auba and Laca. This is surely understandable.

Both of these are not getting any younger, we will rotate in this current climate with games coming thick and fast and he will get games, get a chance, and then the rest is up to him.

I really think letting Balogun go is a mistake.

Nketiah has been given a chance and we can all see that at best he's just a squad player.

I've not seen enough of Balogun to have much of a view, if he was 'that good' he'd have got ahead of Nketiah I'd have thought - so my suspicion is that there is a lot of the usual Arsenal fan panic going on assuming we always give the shit ones long contracts and the good ones leave for free

It would be a shame, but he could just as easily turn into a Lupoli situation. There's no guarantee he'll develop into a world beater, although he does look good in the snippets I've seen him. Even someone like Nketiah who is prodigiously talented and scored millions of goals at all ages has struggled to convert that into performances at the top level. I'd like to find out of he's the real deal at Arsenal though rather that watch him dry bum us in a future European tie.

Nice to see AMN start, though it's a pity it's at the expense of Tierney. Mari's out too, he's done well in recent weeks but Arteta does have to do some rotation.

He’s playing out of position but even allowing for that he’s been trash. Is he our only cover at left back?

Yep.

Poor so far. I can see Palace scoring first.

I think once Gabriel is back then Artetas found his starting XI.

Though he also has the nice headache of how/when to use Martinelli too

Edit: but being arsenal, they'll probably sell one of Saka/auba/Martinelli/Lacazette as they hate having good options

We're somehow only seven points behind champions elect Liverpool too. The season is mad, but I have a feeling it will settle into a comforting normality now with Man City winning 14 on the bounce and then getting dumped out of Europe by someone shit.

Smith-Rowe reminds me a lot of watching Merson. His body movement and touch is just really reminiscent and he also always seems to win you something like a throw or a corner. Keep him off the chop and out of the casinos and we'll be laughing.

Ornstein saying its looking good but not done for Odegaard on loan from Madrid.

I know very little of him beyond he was seen as a bit of a prodigy when he went there at 16, has done nowt for them really at all but had a positive extended loan spell elsewhere in La Liga where he showed some of that early promise.

He's really good. I'd be thrilled if we get him in. Definitely not in the same bracket as the other loanees we've had in over the years. I'm hoping behind hope they're trying to get an option-to-buy in there as his ceiling his huge.

our Jan track record on loanees isn't great - all I think of is 'fractured spines' and signing Cedric who Southampton had on the bench and couldn't believe we paid a fee for whilst he was injured.

it would be a more appropriate name if he were one of our assortment of crap CBs as isn't far off what I think whenever I see the name Mustafi, Sokratis (may he rest in peace) or Luis in the team.

Spoiler

oh dear god if you couldn't work it out.
