I kind of feel a bit sorry for him because he seemed to try hard but just wasn't good enough and he seemed to know it..............

....................

.............

.....................Come to think of it I feel more sorry for us fans who had to watch his shocking perfomances all season, he was playing for Arsenal and picking up about 40 grand a week after all.

I'm sure any of us would love to be in his position so f*ck him, I don't feel sorry for him anymore.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger made a cash plus player offer to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday for striker Fernando Torres.

AS says Wenger asked about Torres’ availability and offered Aleksandr Hleb and Freddie Ljungberg in part-exchange for the Atletico captain.

Atletico chiefs Miguel Angel Gil and Jesus Garcia Pitarch turned down the proposal, but left the door open by expressing interest in Manu Adebayor and Tomas Rosicky.

Actually, that's also rumoured.

Yeah I saw that they denied a couple of weeks ago that they were interested in him. Which probably means they will sign him at the earliest opportunity. Freddie is almost certainly off but I would be suprised to see Hleb leave.

I can't see this Torres thing being true, they seem to want silly money.

Talking of stats; I'm quite amazed at these:

Van Persie got 13 goals in 25 starts plus 6 sub appearances in all club competitions.

Henry got 12 goals in 24 starts with 3 games as a sub.

I would imagine your season would have gone slightly differently if these two would have been fit!

Tell us about it! Even if just Van Persie stayed fit we would of had a realivtly much better season.

Yes, I think you're quite right there. I'm agreeing with you an awful lot recently :) .

The move to Emirates (say what you like, but it must have been like playing at a neutral ground) and our injuries (we had shitloads all over the gaff) really hampered us.

A years experience for the youngsters, everyone fit (hopefully) and a couple of signings makes me feel rather optimistic.

One thing. The stadium is obviously paying off financially (we've all seen the figures). So from now I imagine we're pretty wealthy and cash rich. But there seems to be a reluctance to spend big. It could be cos we don't want to pay over the odds, or Wenger is happy with the squad. That's fine. But I've been thinking, what's the point of the new stadium if it's not to generate cash for players? Unless we'll only see the real financial benefit in a year of two where is all that cash going? Are they saving for a rainy day, or possibly a collapse in the game? All that time planning, the heartache, the financing, the building etc. We're no further forward than we were at Highbury. And, to be honest, I really miss Highbury.

Don't forget you buy a lot of players with a payment over time scheme. I'd imagine quite a bit of money is tied up in paying for players you've already bought. Excuse my ignorance here, but don't you have a big loan you're paying off as well? I'm sure you've got to qualify for the CL every season in order to pay it back as well. If I'm right there then it's quite understandable that you're not splashing the cash. Wenger seems really determined to persevere with the boys he's brought through as well.

Oh blimey, absolutely. Quite right.

But with the debt - we're talking 15 odd years - it's under control and well managed. My point is that are we in some way hamstrung for that period? If we're making cash now then why not spend it now? If the new stadium is paying off already (technically it is, as per the balance sheet, but whether there are other financial concerns to be ironed out short term I don't know) then why aren't we seeing investment now?

We've not spent big and although you rightly state that overseas players can have their payment stretched out, we should have that in the budget. Already in place.

I'm thinking out loud really. In a nutshell I'm just wondering when the move will actually start to pay off. Maybe the squad is deemed OK right now, hence the lack of investment. And we might pull a couple of major signings off in the coming weeks.

Incidentally, dogs, commiserations for last night. Better side for the best part. Real effort all round, a fluke and class ball from Kaka undid you. Loved the players' honest reactions though, especially from Carragher. In a game where old fashioned, almost 'dinosaur' players have been all but phased out, you have an old fashioned 'dinosaur' there that Red Merseyside must love to death. Strangely I wouldn't play him for England but every Club would love him. And a right decent lad. He looks like he'd die for the Club.

Cheers, mate. I know you were here this time last year so you know how it feels. I honestly didn't expect us to lose that game, and I wasn't all that worried until the score line reached 2-0. Up until that point I really believed we'd pull one back. It was an incredibly frustrating game to watch as we controlled 90% of the game but came unstuck against the run of play twice. We bossed Milan in that first half and came close a couple of times and like you say, that fucked up, flukey shit cost us. The pedantic referee and the time wasting that went on once they got the second sent me a bit wild, too. Today's been pretty shite, every now and then it'll pop back into my head and make me: :)

But yeah, Carragher is a legend. He's so humble for such a great player and I love the 'Carraghercules' banner Scouser_in_exile posted before the game.

Anyhow, thanks for the kind words. It makes a nice change from all the Chelsea/Manc bile I've been on the end of today.

Oi, listen. I don't want to quote that Mourinho bloke but chin up. Our loss last year still puts me into fits of anger, tears, whatever. I'm still truly gutted. Mostly cos I was there with my old man, missed the kick off (yeah, thanks police, and a bit of bad planning after gulping £10 pints in Paris for most of the day) and to see us win it with him would've been the ultimate. And given us bragging rights! Footy ain't my life but I'm strangely affected by the experience to this day. At least you've won it! :) Fuck me, you miserable cunt, five in the bag, get a grip!

;)

haha, i don't even talk about paris i was so pissed off after the game. Liverpool have done well to get to another final so soon so really they can become a major force in europe again. Now that Rafa has money i can see some big signings

It would be superb to win the PL again sometime soon, but as for the CL we just have to get to another final and we absolutely just have to win the damn thing so we can all breathe a sigh of relief as this hoping and anticipation is just a killer.

It's hard to breathe sometimes when we have to watch other teams year in year out winning the godforsaken thing.

we made two big cock ups against PSV in the first leg, one was playing 2 up top and the other was injecting Henry and making him play.

I hope wenger has learnt from this and sticks to the 4-5-1 that was so successful in getting us to the final

Adebayor no longer banned from playing for Togo.

So that means him, Toure and Eboue could all be missing for a month or more at the African Nations Cup. And other Clubs will suffer too.

With respect, they really need to get that shambolic tournament knocked on the head. It defies any reasonable logic. You could argue that Africa deserves it's own tournament but it's crap and the stadiums are half empty.

Why don't they just move it to the actual off-season, or do their leagues play to a different timetable?

I think it's all a bit scary, all this talk of your top players wanted by everyone.

We've just gotta take it like Wenger said, Cesc will be at Arsenal next season, end of story. If he said Cesc will be at Arsenal for the next 5 years or so who would believe it? We would still have the same shit from Real Madrid and Barca every transfer window anyway.
