I suspect this is heading to a massive fine for us due to insufficient stewarding and ticket controls, a small slap on the wrists for them for being a bit boisterous (I know it was a lot more than this) and some other club trying the same.

I didn't go but my son did, they basically seemed to abandon all usual security measures (so no bag searches at all) and were letting loads of Koln fans in without tickets, the view seemed to be it was better to get them contained in the ground than running amok outside of it. We're upper tier clock end and there were loads of away shirts in there, apparently they'd been signing up as red members and buying tickets on the exchange.

That said once they were inside he said the atmosphere was amazing and not violent during the match

Yeah I think by and large they were good-natured. Its just how it is in Germany I guess, where the game hasn't been gentrified and sanitised by the middle classes and authorities like it has over here.

Anyone going to the return fixture?

It's fateone's biannual windmill in the Arsenal thread followed by an inevitable ban. Beautiful in its way.

Thank you

edit: and no, he's not right. There's plenty wrong with Arsenal but none of it is encapsulated in that mindless dross.

I liked the bit where we were all meant to somehow force Kroenke to sack Wenger, even though he pretty much never comes to games and clearly doesn't give a fuck one way or another.

Arsenal definitely have lots of insanely fickle internet fans and I can totally see where the bad reputation comes from, but it's silly that everyone in this thread gets tarred with that brush by certain posters when it's clearly unwarranted.

This stereotype of Arsenal fans with delusions of grandeur is so entrenched in their heads that apparently it's now outlandish to suggest the club could sign a bloke from Southampton.

Erm.. that wasn't what I was suggesting. In all seriousness, you need to force the owners out like the Scousers did.

It's certainly very strange. I don't follow a wide variety of Arsenal Twitter accounts, but those I do follow are very level-headed, disparaging and sensible about the team's downfall.

Maybe the fanbase was more delusional around the late-2000s, but painting us now as fans with delusions of grandeur is crazy. It's not that at all. Every fan knows we're a broken team, and it isn't because we're just not as good as Liverpool. There are fundamental issues, pretty clearly.

I do enjoy how he assumes Arsenal fans here celebrate the Wenger Out banners, despite us rolling our eyes at them.

Unfortunately, the majority of my mates are Gooners, so don't use Autism levels of literal. Indeed, the delusion has died down a touch, but the not-having-a-clue is as strong as ever.

We should buying ludicrously overpriced wonderkids like Neymar or Mbappe or just not bother and pack the whole operation in.

mmmm... once again, missing the point. I'm saying, you are delusional if you think you have/had a realistic chance of getting Van Dijk from Southampton (sideways step) and even more so of getting Mbappe!

I think it tells a lot that when Sterling was sold by Liverpool it was just met with a shrug by fans.

Sterling has the talent, in fact I'd say he's one of the most naturally gifted English players of his generation, those labelling him as a speed merchant or another Lennon are talking out of their arse.  Sterling has the touch and ability to unlock defences and make things happen, his ability was insane for an 18yr old when only the finishing touch and an improvement in his decision making was all that was needed to create a great player. And we waited... and it never seemed to happen.

He still looks the same at City, he'll have games where everything clicks and he destroys the opposition but then he'll disappear for a few more afterwards.  The biggest obstacle in my opinion that Sterling has to fulfilling his potential is himself. Too much too soon, maybe? He has always thought he was better than he is, which can help players but the arrogance can also hinder learning. He definitely rubbed up a lot of our senior players with his attitude and work rate in training. Sterling definitely needs a manager to clip his wings, if he gets this move to Arsenal it will be his last big chance otherwise I can see him playing out the rest of his career at mid table clubs.

tbf to him, his development was stunted by Rodgers. He was playing a different position every other week by the end. I do think there's a point to be made about too much too soon, not just with him, but a few young English players, still, I don't see how Sanchez is an improvement frankly. The stats do not back up this notion you all seem to have of him being a hard worker, I imagine, because compared to the rest of the Arsenal players, he gets stuck in a bit, but every time I watch Arsenal you don't see him or hear his name for big portions of the match. Stirling already has better vision than Sanchez, and runs about as much as him. As he develops even more physically, and tactically he's likely going to be a much better all round player.

To someone else's point from before about him being able to walk into any team... Barca, Real? Nope. Atletico? Doubt it. Juventus? Nope. PSG? Nope. Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd, Spurs? Nope. And let's be realistic here if money was an issue at Man City like it is at most other clubs, would they really be looking at swapping Sanchez for Stirling as a good investment?

Serious question: did Liverpool fans directly force out Hicks/Gillette? I don’t really know the details. If so, how? Is it even applicable to Kroenke, given that he rarely attends games, never really talks to the press or at AGMs etc?

re: Alexis and Sterling. I like Sterling a lot, but he’s not currently getting you 30+ goals/assists from wide the way Alexis can. For all the frustrating elements of Alexis’ game, there aren’t a lot of players with that level of end product.

Three points is three points but what an appalling game.  Man City would have scored at least 5 or 6 and we really made hard work of it.

Yesterday the home 'support' was embarrassing and it was probably the worst atmosphere I've experienced since we've been at the new ground.  The place was like a morgue and there were more plastic people attending the game than I've ever encountered before.  Are we actually bussing in these Chinese "fans" by the thousands now?  Seems like it!

I think there are a large number of factors causing the general malaise in the stadium, some of our own doing as a club and some which I believe are larger problems in the game.

Dealing with just us we've got the obvious Wenger problem, star players wanting to leave (plus the albatross that was Ox) and the fact the team is generally looking like what it is at present (a europa league, not CL, team.

Wider than us though the league is simply full of too much shit, for whom the target is simply to remain in the league for the money whilst feeling no obligation to add to the spectacle, for which everybody is ultimately paying.

I get the spending power is imbalanced and we don't have a US style draft system (and never will) - but its hard to get excited about the likes of WBA and Brighton visiting when you know the level of their aspiration before KO, add to that a Mon8pm and Sunday midday KO and its a recipe for apathy. TV messing with KO times is another big problem for people attending, with the latest madness being us having a 4pm KO on xmas eve at home to Liverpool being suggested.

Any comment at the league being full of shit draws immediate 'elitist Arsenal fan' comments, I genuinely don't mind if we lose if its to a team that has a go and comes to play, I like watching good football, and the shit I've paid a lot of money to watch this week isn't good football - really who cares other than their fans if Brighton get relegated ? They were 2 down and bringing on defenders yesterday.

TLDR, lots of issues, some of our causing, some not, and a general abuse of the paying fan who is expected to turn up at any time of day to often watch 1 side attempt to stink the joint up.

No-one sings at football games in England these days, wherever you go.

You can say that's because of the middle-classes and tourists filling the seats but I barely sing when I go to a game and that's because I hate basically every other member of humanity and feel no sense of community with them.

Not entirely true.  In my match reports following Sutton FC I'm enjoying teams which, although bringing few fans, have good variety or persistence.  Barrow FC were superb - they kept going continuously for 25 minutes, one song after the other, often with a maritime theme, although that effort seemed to exhaust them totally and they barely raised a cheep (being Bluebirds) thereafter even for their two goals.  Maidenhead Utd were also good.

But, yeah, the Emirates was very poor when I had my season ticket in the north upper (last season was 07/08, can't believe its been so long).  So many tickets are shared these days means you never get the same neighbours, often away fans are there, sometimes the whole purpose of the visit seemed to be to have a big picnic with your own food :o:facepalm:
