All three of those subs were dogshit. Xhaka was rubbish but when he went off we lost all our impetus as we had no one to pass from midfield. Lacazette had a goal in him, and subbing Kolasinac off when we had people out of position at full back? Total nonsense. Wenger picked a shit XI and then made it even worse with his subs.

He probably needs some more players?

I think the squad is decent, we could do with a central midfielder though. Elneny is ok but too conservative to ever be really effective. That's the main position we lack depth in.

Personally with Per retiring at the end of the season, Gabriel gone, Chambers clearly not rated by Wenger, Koscielny with a dodgy ankle and Mustafi looking like a total flop, I'd also sell Chambers and go for a first XI centre back. Van Dijk is good but very expensive. We could maybe go back in for Manolas.

Main issue is the coaching and setup though, not the personnel. Been that way for a while now.

Different year, same shit. At least games like this are a reality check for anyone who was thinking that we could win the league this year (if those people actually exist?). I just can't understand how we can play like we did in the FA Cup semi final/final with basically the same team as this game but with so much less desire.

Was it really same shit different year? What year was it the same as?

Last year we beat them 4-1 away, other times we've been well beaten, dominated physically and aerially.

Today we were undone caught napping straight after half time but largely the game was spent in and around their box, we didn't play overly poorly although contradictory to that the defence was shambolic and the midfield lacked a final ball, but more over we were unlucky that chances kept falling to a woeful Welbeck, in the box he makes Bambi look graceful.

it wasn't a million miles away from what we've seen a lot - massive % possession not turned into clear chances or goals, powderpuff midfield and defence you can just run thru. I've seen that game before.

we were terrified every time Jesse or that chuppa chup bloke ran at us.

the coaching has to be looked at, I mean Ozil gets accused of nicking a living a lot but Steve Bould is meant to be the defensive coach isn't he, we are no better now than at any time in recent years, seems he keeps his job as isn't a challenge to Wenger at all.

they didn't batter us at all really in old stoke style, which somehow is worse as at least I know we lose those games usually.

fine margins though, another day with the pen given and the offside not and people would be calling it a good early season win whilst the team settle back in together.

I didn't mean specifically the team we were playing against, I meant the type of performance. We dominate possession but fail to convert chances, can't break down teams who play defensively, lose possession in key area's, our defense is poor.

The defence is bad because 2 left backs are playing central defence. The defence is bad because a proposed central midfielder is playing left wing back.

The team selection was ridiculously dodgy. I get that Wenger wants to convince Ox to stay but upsetting the team balance and refusing to play players in their actual positions is going to throw up more mistakes. Normally we can rely on Alexis conjuring something out of nothing when it's like that but that's less of a solution now.

That we could and should have drawn the game suggests an internal level of potential quality that isn't being fulfilled. Hooray for another season of it!

According to the tweets I saw those late tackles from behind where fairly common throughout the game on him. I suppose when you have lost so much of your career to injury people trying to injury you is going to wind you up. on the up side before the sending off he played pretty well apparently :)

indicative of his general brainless approach - a naturally talented player who is as thick as shit.

If he had a quarter of the work ethic of a Lampard, Neville, or Ronaldo, who all moulded themselves into what they became, he'd be a first teamer without a thought.

Actually that looks like a strange team altogether (or is that the mcbain?).

Yeah like their second choice keeper at right wing and Ozil playing centre back.

I imagine it's definitely real though, why else would it be on the internet?

Gibbs gone, Mustafi probably gone, Ox-C probably gone. This is looking like a banter-era window.

Has there ever been any other sort? I guess the one we signed Alexis in was ok. Apart from that they're always a total shambles. No sign of a cohesive plan whatsoever.

Is Mustafi regarded as being a bit of a flop then? Considering we played so many players out of position in defence last time out I'm not sure offloading him is the wisest choice with Gibbs going and Chambers seeming to be unfavoured

I'm not convinced Wenger ever wanted him. We definitely preferred Manolas but wouldn't match Roma's valuation.

Speculation, but there does seem to be an element of some players being signed either above Wenger's head, or just with pressure exerted on him to sign certain guys who he's not sure about. Gabriel and Elneny were StatDNA purchases by all accounts, and one is gone and looked largely awful, and the other looks tidy enough but pretty meh.
