Arsenal striker Emanuel Adebayor has signed a new deal long-term deal at the Emirates Stadium.

The Togo forward, 23, joined the Gunners from French club Monaco in the 2006 January transfer window and has impressed manager Arsene Wenger enough to earn an extended contract.

Adebayor has become a key part of Wenger's plans, shouldering much of the side's attacking burden in Thierry Henry's recent absence through injury,

scoring 16 goals in 57 appearances since joining the club.

Good news, even though I didn't pay much attention to the Juve/Man Utd/anyone rumours that his agent was busy peddling in the papers over the weekend good to see he has signed. Not a great scoring record, below one goal every three games. Should be a bit better than that even if he is probably not the prolific type.

If him, RVP and Henry (assuming he doesn't go) stay fit we could have some real options next year. Add in the pacy winger we so desperately need and maybe a better season from some of the current players (Hleb in particular) and who knows?

Also I saw that Hearts are now talking up Gordon as being worth £8m-£10m which probably explains why we went for the Pole for £2m.

Good news

Yes. As you know, I'm a fan.

I saw a video of this Pole and he looks mustard. And £10m for Gordon is a fucking joke. Hopefully it's a case of us saving the cash for a big buy, like Ribery.

10 mill for Gordon is bollocks, surely the madman's got 1 more good year left and that gives us a chance to see if Fabianski is/will be good enough.

I think I prefer Ribery to Babel, even though Babel looks good in a couple of videos I've seen.

Wouldn't mind either I suppose. I think we'll go for Ribery big time, he looks like a Wenger type player.

Ribery is the better of the two at the moment. Babel has massive potential, though. He really could be a top player in a couple of years with the right coaching. He's full of pace and skill but is still very raw. He reminds me of Henry more than a bit, mainly because of the way he drifts from central positions out onto the left when off the ball.

I know that is what he said all along, I hope that doesn't prove to be the case though. No disrespect but I mean Marseille and the French league or Arsenal and the Premier league? Add a fat pay increase to that as well and it doesn't look like the most difficult decision in the world.

All these stories about Arsenal having first dibs on Ribery seem to have quietened down. I think there was plenty on the web to indicate it was true but that assumes that a. he wants to leave and b. we are willing to pay for him...right now neither looks especially likely.

In other news i see Poom has turned down an offer from Rangers...assume that means he's staying put?

I really like Poom and I think he's decent third choice keeper. I'd like to see him stay.

Fourth choice now. I can't see him stopping unless we sell Almunia but Wenger seems to think quite a lot about him. And there's another keeper coming through too.

The subheading for this thread could really use an update!

You read my mind!

Bendner speaks:

Arsenal teenager Nicklas Bendtner wants to force his way into Arsene Wenger's plans next season after agreeing a new five-year deal.

The 19-year-old striker was on loan at Birmingham this season and has agreed a new long-term contract at Emirates Stadium.

He now wants to make the break into the first team and is confident he will be given a chance to shine.

Bendtner said: "It has always been my goal to get my breakthrough at Arsenal.

"There were no other clubs that were interesting for me. I know I have the right qualities, or will be able to develop them.

"I truly believe that I can break through on that level, and I have had meetings with them where they have told me that I figure in their plans for the

future.

"If that had not happened, neither they nor I would have signed the deal.

"The other strikers here may have an advantage over me, but when I restart training and get some good matches under my belt, I am sure I will get my chance and take it."

I'll be interested to see how he gets on. First player for a while to make it back from loan and survive, except Hoyte I guess.

Will be interesting to see how he gets a game ahead of Henry, Van Persie, and Aday

I can see Almunia leaving over the summer now that the young pol is in. I'll miss him if he leaves, I've always though he was a fantastic no.2 and I wasn't too worried when there was talk of crazy leaving as I though Almunia would have been able to step up.

I like him. He seems a decent bloke, always plays with a smile. I think he's much improved and is neck and neck with Jens as number one. If the Pole (have we actually deffo signed him?) steps up early on then it might make things look worse for Almunia who deserves regular football. But with Jens on a one year contract the simple solution seems to drop him and let Almunia and the Pole fight it out. I still think Jens has been brilliant at times. He dropped a couple of high profile bollocks early on but he makes few mistakes and I'll never forget Jensday, the FA penalty win. He's made some really great saves and was aces in the CL run to the final.

There are rumours of me laughing as I try to tell Bayern to fuck off.

8mill?!

;)

Exactly. He's going nowhere. I really can't see it. He's highly regarded and the type of player we need, ie a bit cocky, willing to take responsibility, try something and take the piss a bit with his skill. He scored some right crackers, goal of the season too ;) .

How do we feel about tonight? Coincidentally I missed an assignment deadline last year cos I was in Paris (with college permission) and today we had my final, final assignment hand in. It brought back memories of last year and I feel fully gutted all over again. I was day dreaming a minute ago, how stepping out of the stadium in the rain and trying to get to the hotel ASAP could've been a lot, lot different.

Van persie isn't going anywhere, Owen links are bullshit. I want Almunia to stay would prefer him to start over Lehmann as Lehmann fucks me off. I don't think we'll go in for ribery its jus too much money and if wenger bought him and he flopped everyone would moan and it could happen. Babel is the best bet, Rosicky plays on the left so babel can play bits like walcott.

Why doesn't Eto'o just shut the fu*k up and fu*k off!!!

:)

More of the same I know but you get a bit pissed off after 2 or 3 years of the same bollocks, and Wenger said just last week that Henry will definitely be at Arsenal next season so everyone should just fu*k off actually and find something new to talk about.

Wa*kers the lot of them!!

From the BBC website. Please reassure me that this is total nonsense...its come out of nowhere.

Yeah, I just read that. I was thinking.. 'is Wenger leaving for Madrid and selling Cesc to them in advance?', like you do, but it's more than likely utter bollocks. To be honest though, since Dein left I'm a bit uncomfortable all round.

They're obviously briefed to go to the press about this kind of thing. It's blatant 'tapping up' regardless of whether it comes from a Club official or a player. It's just very bad form, they should be ashamed.

True. There were also very reliable sources reporting that Wenger had promised Henry that Eto was coming to Arsenal.

Anyway, like others have said, its all just rumour and speculation. But, like others feel, Dein's departure throws a lot in the air.

DING DONG THE BEAST IS DEAD!

Arsenal have decided against turning forward Julio Baptista's loan deal from Real Madrid into a permanent transfer.

The 25-year-old Brazilian scored 10 goals in 35 appearances but found the net only three times in 24 Premiership appearances in his season at Arsenal.

"Arsenal have told me they are not able to buy me and so all I can do is return to Real Madrid," Baptista told Spanish newspaper Marca.

Baptista joined Arsenal, with Jose Antonio Reyes moving the other way.

The Spanish season has not yet finished and no decision has been made on Reyes' future.

Baptista, who scored four goals in Arsenal's 6-3 Carling Cup win against Liverpool at Anfield in January, added: "I have enjoyed my season with Arsenal and in England.

"I adapted well. I didn't play much at first but finished much better. The first year is very difficult.

"The English league is very strong and very competitive with great teams. Manchester United and Chelsea are very strong and it is difficult to compete against their great squads."

Baptista joined Real from Sevilla for an initial fee of £13.8m in July 2005.
