Oh boy, it's the same as Van Persie all over again.

almost worse the RvP, because it comes after it (and the memory of that is still fresh) and Sanchez is a better and more pivotal player.

at times last season he was the only one who seemed to care, RvP was an awesome player but wasn't a one man team.

The current climate of transfer fees makes this seem weird, especially after Alexis and Ozil.

It's a laugh that people are so hyped up on having 3 years of Hanson learning how to be an elite striker but the common sense lot think a striker from the same league with 1-in-2 stats is like signing Jeffers.

Alexis is brilliant, miles better than Lacazette, but he's very frustrating at times, loses possession *a lot*, and isn't irreplaceable if you look to share the goals and assists by improving the team dynamic. That's easier said than done, of course.

I'm also not sold on the idea of Lemar as the second forward signing; he seems like a more experienced Iwobi tbh and I'm not convinced we massively need him.

Hope you're right and I'm wrong. Just can't help thinking if he was that good someone would have signed him already with centre forwards such a rare commodity, and if we were truly mad on him we'd have got him a year or two ago as well.

Didn't RVP almost single handedly win the league for Man Utd? :eyebrows:

Van Persie in his last season for us was the most ruthlessly efficient forward I've ever seen. Absolutely phenomenal, he practically carried that team at points.

This Lacazette business feels like when I got a Spectrum for Christmas in 1990, when I wanted an Amiga with every fibre of my being. Don't get me wrong, the Spectrum did a job and I was very grateful for it, but it wasn't a fucking Amiga.

And what's worse is your parents had been looking at the Spectrum for three years and each time decided to hold off in case an Amiga became available.

With how long he's gone without any of the uberclubs taking a chance on him I can't help but think of Arshavin. But he was good for you for a while, wasn't he?

Arshavin was generally a pretty good signing. Shame he didn't join earlier in his career.

Just seen Lacazette's goal record in Europe. Doesn't make for particularly pretty reading: 15 in 47 games, including penalties.

Lacazette seems a decent signing, has anyone actually watched him play? Is he faster than Giroud? Injury prone?

I really hope we keep hold of Sanchez at least for this season. It's highly likely that Man City will just go get another player if we refuse to sell, rather than wait a year.

As someone else on Twitter said, I hope Lacazette is the replacement for Perez or Giroud, rather than Alexis. I am wondering what other business we'll do with so much focus on the strikers. I like a good ol' sneaky Arsenal signing but they're harder to pull off these days.

Who were your favourite sneaky signings? Does Cazorla count as one? No one else really seemed in for him.

so a transfer round up for today -

Lacazette is happening and will be done by mid week

Mahrez is apparently happening but hasn't got a source as rock solid as Ornstein

Everton want Giroud

Chamberlain has rejected a 'take it or leave it' new contract

Nothing new on Alexis but his recent comments imply he's history

Nothing on Ozil

If we sell Alexis to Man City shit will kick off.  Even if we somehow get Mbappe it's absolutely unacceptable to let him go to an English club.

I thought the Ozil news was he'd renewed his exec box in the ground - implying that he was going to stay (the distinct lack of takers to offer him 250k a week too after his post xmas form may also play into the fact he'll be staying)

Oooh, that's news for me thanks

Really hope Giroud and Chamberlain stay, I'm pretty much accepting the idea of Sanchez leaving and as good as he is i think he also has a negative effect on the team when he's in one of his moods.

Unless one of the most astonishing pieces of transfer business in the history of the Premier League happens before deadline day I kind of wish we hadn't gone for Mbappe.  The moaners will consider Lacazette a second choice signing until he becomes a hugely prolific Premier League striker and the club will be open to massive criticism.  Did anyone ever really think Mbappe could happen until last week?

Can't wait till pre-season now to see our new boy tearing it up.

Anyone know when I'm likely to be able to get the sexy grey and pink third kit?

Not sure what I make of the Lacazette signing., I've not seen him enough to have a personal view of his qualities.

My negative head view is that if he was really top quality it wouldn't be between us & Athleti for him and he'd be going for a lot more money - the top clubs may have sniffed but none have put the money down for him, and whilst its a big fee its not a fee that the elite strikers go for

Interesting tweets by Orbinho yesterday that we are currently full of non 'home grown' players now so have to move players on to be able to register new ones (or just keep paying players we can't play as not in registered squad, like Debuchy).

I'd have thought signing Lacazette means Mbappe is 100% not happening, I like Mahrez though and think he would suit our style well

He's probably not top quality but as depressing as it sounds neither are we right? Atleti are about our level and if anything are ahead of us on the pitch.

I like Giroud but think Lacazette looks like an upgrade, faster and good movement so i'm pleased.

Also what top quality strikers are available? We've been trying to buy one for what seems like forever.

Lukaku is being talked up to be worth £100m and Morata is not going to be far behind by the time Real are done with Man Utd or whoever else wants him.

Getting flashbacks to when we signed Podolski and Giroud to reignite our attacking prowess and sold RVP to Man U in August 2012.

If all this catalyst for change bollocks has any meaning at all we should be dropping the dead wood, retaining our best players and making serious efforts to get another couple of "top top" players in.  Last season's implosion was epic and the planes, Fan TV rants and Vengah arrrt shit made us a laughing stock.  Time to fuck off the wage structure and keep breaking transfer records to ensure that Sanchez and Ozil are playing alongside the same level of talent.

Sorry I'm bored at work and I'm having this "awake nightmare" that we flog Sanchez to Man City to make back the Lacazette money.

Competing with Letico for signing looks about right as an outsider! And I dont think there is any shame in that, they are a bloody good team!

Plus he could very well be a top quality, other teams may not have been in for him for other reasons, wether he doesnt fit there style of play or they already have better... Chelsea and United both prefer powerhouses, City already have Aguero. He probably isnt really Barcelona, Madrid, Bayern levels. Arsenal almost seem like the perfect fit.

I hope he does well, it would be great to see Arsenal challenge for the title, you know, all the way through a season. All you have to do is sign Mahrez now, and what a front 4 that would be.
