Arsenal

He's been in poor form for a while now and I'm sure he'll leave in the summer, but today was another preview of us against a deep block without Özil. Not pretty.

Everything is a mess. The players don't seem to want to play for the manager. They sure as fuck don't seem to want to play for the fickle, plane-flying fans. We have a good squad but Wenger doesn't seem to know what to do with it. The two star players seem to want out. Real shame that it's come to this.

Another year seems like it'd be fairly pointless. Can we really improve that drastically with the same manager? Would that convince Sanchez and anyone else debating leaving to stay? I doubt it personally.  If the replacement manager they have in mind (assuming they have someone in mind) is available at the end of the season I think it makes sense to do it now.

Plus, unless they come out early and state with certainty who the next manager will be and that he's starting at the end of the next season we'll just be in the same position again in a years time, wondering if Wenger will extend his contract or not.

The thing that annoys me most about this is the use of a hashtag, but done completely wrong.

Apparently a one year extension?

A bit annoying but It might be for the best as it will allow for a proper transition instead of a rushed summer.

If it's next summer then transfer deals and preseason training would be disrupted by the World Cup. Surely it'd make more sense to make a change this summer, at least try and hold onto Sanchez & Ozil, then make repairs to the squad pronto so that they get as much time together to prep for a new season with a new style?

Agreed. I fully expect the post-Wenger hangover to last at least three or four years. What benefit is there to him staying for one more year? Will the players suddenly start caring again if they know he'd be leaving in a year? I highly doubt it.

We'd just end up in this same situation a year from now, where they just down tools and wait for the new guy to come in, and as mentioned above, it'll be a World Cup year, which will make things even more difficult.

I guess the board have made no contingency plans and never would until they know Wenger is really going. Perhaps the year notice is what was always going to be needed because until then they will just sit on their hands waiting...

Doesn't seem like Wenger had any plans of leaving after the Bayern debacle and was just expecting to make top 4 and maybe hoping for a FA Cup final at the least. Doubt either of those will happen this year as the competition in both is much higher than it's ever been. Does anyone really believe there are any contingency plans in place for another manager to come in?

There is nothing good about Wenger staying another season.  He should have already been dismissed if he refused to resign after the Bayern annihilation.  The fact he's still allowed to go about his business continuously fucking things up is astonishing.

If the board really are as utterly wank and spineless as we all know they are, then it really doesn't surprise me that there is no real plan for Wenger's replacement.  The horrifying reality to the situation is that there's been a contract on the table for a while now ready for him to sign and they are certain he will sign it.

Wenger will never be the man to rebuild Arsenal.  He was finished years ago so it's absolutely absurd to try and extend his stay any further.  If he can't get a tune out of them now, why will next season be any different?  The imbecile does not change his ways and cannot prepare a team for a game of football.  You can see the players have nothing left in them, not even any pride.  They are fucked.

Considering Wenger's track record he is far from an 'imbecile'. Whether it is his time to go or not he deserves far more respect from fans like you. Arsenal wouldn't be where they are now without Wenger. Back in 2006 when the Emrites move was happening and the purse strings were tightened to pay for it all Wenger could have walked into any top club in the world and be paid much more too. But no, he stuck it with you guys, and got you into the Champions League every season despite the lack of investment in the squad.  He has given so much to Arsenal, he may be paid handsomely for it but if money was his motivation he'd have left many years ago.

Fans complain about loyalty in football when they themselves don't show it to those who deserve it. Wenger deserves respect and admiration from Arsenal fans not the bullshit that the likes Steve007 and vocal minority (wexit ) give him.

I support Arsenal Football Club, not Wenger FC.  Everyone has their shelf-life and he should have gone years ago.  He's doing a crap job and being paid very well for failure.  I've waited a long, long time for the fans to turn on him and now it's finally happening.  People are starting to realise that he's fucking useless.

I've said it many times but stumbling into the Champions League each season is not success.  Until we are a team that can realistically mount a challenge to win the damn thing then we are only there to make up the numbers.  Nothing more.

I pay more than any other fan at any other club to watch my team play football.  For the obscene money I pay each season, I don't think it's too much to expect the team to be challenging for honoures and going in the right direction.  Instead  we have the businessmen running the club (they are not football people) continuously gloating about an ever-growing mounting of cash being stockpiled and not used.  The businessmen at the club spend just enough each season to see the club tread water.  There's no ambition to do anything more than finish top 4!  That's not good enough and when you see the sheer inconsistency and constant failure to prepare the team properly with pathetic team selections and no tactics (we just do the same fucking thing each week, regardless of opposition), then I will moan about the manager all day long.

I'm happy to accept a few years in limbo while a new manager rebuilds.  However, it's not just Wenger.  Kroenke needs to either choose to compete or someone needs to buy him out.  We're a massive, massive club and if we are not careful we'll end up far behind the likes of Liverpool, Man City, Man United, Spurs & Everton.  Just look at Chelsea if you want to see how to run a club.  Even winning the league isn't good enough for their owner.  If he sees no progress then you're gone.  Plus a new manager every now and then  is very healthy.  It keeps everything fresh.  How some people can't see this is astonishing.  It's like you don't understand football at all.

If you want Arsenal to be run like a Russian oligarch's personal toy then I think that's very sad.

Personally I think that you come off as very entitled.

Not entitled.  Just want to see the club going in the right direction and I'm not even demanding we win things - just challenging would be enough as it would be a sign of significant progress!  How many more years do you want the club to tread water with no sign of improvement while the rest of the teams around us improve significantly?  You think our current league position, form & results are not a cause for questions to be asked about the leadership of our club?

I look at Chelsea and see what they are doing and yes, I want some of that.  Trophies, great managers, strong squad with plenty of depth and a continual effort to improve each season...  Yes please!  Have you seen how upset their players & manager look when they lose or don't win a game?  They are full of hunger.  Our lot couldn't give a shit whether they do well or not.  Apart from Alexis, no one has any pride.

Whilst I think it's a tacky and stupid way to make a point, I'm all in favour of fans having a voice.  What next, ban everyone with an anti-Wenger banner as it might offend a large selection of our muppet fans who are happy to accept a club that's going nowhere?  Why not ban the demonstrations outside while you're at it?  And what about booing at the final whistle of each game, is that too much for some people to tolerate?  They should brace themselves as it's only going to get worse.

Sounds like Sanchez is off cause we won't double his wages. Doubt it has anything to do with lack of trophies, Wenger leaving etc. We're something like the 5th richest club in the world and we can't afford these kind of wages, it's crazy.
