That Elneny-Coquelin pairing is just too conservative, we've seen it against Boro and again today. Neither offers any incisive passing and Ramsey was rubbish too, admittedly in an unfamiliar position.

We haven't played well in quite a while but we're still getting points on the board, so that's something I guess.

The thing about Ramsey being out of position is something to highlight, if Wenger doesn't think he offers enough to play in the middle vs Carrick, Herrera and Mata then he's not good enough for Arsenal, to shoehorn him in isn't fair on him or us.

Wenger should have been more bold today.

i hope I don't ever have to watch Elneny and Coquelin at the base of midfield again, Elneny doesn't do anything exceptionally.

Elneny is a very tidy squad player but yeah doesn't really excel at anything. Good against pressing sides though as he takes up smart positions and moves the ball quickly, see Spurs away last season which was possibly his best game for us.

I'm not really sure why he played yesterday instead of Xhaka. We'd already seen 90 mins of evidence that Elneny/Coquelin don't offer adventurous enough passing to play as a pair. Xhaka is the only other guy you can pair with Coquelin when Santi is out; Elneny and Ramsey can't play with him.

Re: Ramsey's position, the problem is that we don't have any proper cover for Iwobi. I guess AW thought he could replicate the role but based on yesterday it didn't work at all. With that XI he'd probably have been better off playing 4-3-3 with Özil on the left.

Paris Saint-Germain claim defender Serge Aurier has been refused entry into the UK ahead of their Champions League match against Arsenal on Wednesday due to a recent conviction.

The French champions say British authorities had originally granted the Ivory Coast international permission to enter the country for the game at the Emirates Stadium, but revoked the 23-year-old's visa on November 16.

Aurier was given a two-month suspended prison sentence in May after allegedly assaulting a police officer outside a nightclub in Paris and is currently appealing that ruling.

Little bonus

Ozil has to drop so deep when we play a midfield without a reliable forward passer too. It's infuriating. Like, did we not see enough of Ramsey-Coquelin last season in that spell that killed our title challenge to see it was a shit pairing? It's utter nonsense.

Coincidence that Jenkinson and Iwobi were both subbed within a minute of their 2nd goal???

Shocking defending from Jenkinson, the player he's supposed to be marking was behind him, and a pretty shit attempt from Iwobi to clear the header.

When Cazorla is fit he and Xhaka have to start together.

Not athletic enough for me as a PL pairing, both a bit slow and lacking in stamina.

For me he has to give Ramsey-Xhaka a run, if it doesn't work then by all means go back to Coq-Cazorla when Santi is back.

iwobi is going through a rough patch, but should come through. The midfield two needs to be addressed. Everyone wants to see Xhaka play and most want coquelin dropped, dunno why he starts. Also don't think Giroud offered anything all game.

I don't agree about Giroud. His pressure lead to the penalty, and in the second half the same type of pressure led to a great chance that almost fell to Ramsey.

A lot of people with boxes must have missed it, never seen that tier of the ground have so many empty seats in it.

Was another odd game in reality, the scoreline makes it feel a lot more comfortable than it ever felt in reality. Odd moments of the flow coming back but still quite a few concerning moments, especially at the back.

Positives would be Xhaka in the second half, who again looked solid and displayed some lovely passing, and of course Alexis who is currently dragging us thru matches.

Gabriel as a right back looked horrible (but wouldn't want to split up Kostafi with him at CB), Ox again disappointed when handed a start and Ozil was largely anonymous.

I thought Özil looked good in the second half after 3.5 fairly rubbish games. Xhaka was our best player, some nice passes and a really good defensive performance.

Hopefully Lucas is back for the cup game because Giroud looks like he's out and we obviously don't want to have to start Walcott/Ramsey/Alexis etc.
