Why bother with injury time in a friendly? If the ref had just called it at 90 minutes then Gabriel would've left under his own power, rather than carried on a stretcher, leg heavily strapped, having spent over five minutes being treated on the pitch.

Then he let the game go on for another couple of minutes after the restart, for fuck's sake.

It'll be fine though, I suppose, we've got great strength in depth at centre back...

Bollocks.

Being an Arsenal fan is so depressing *sometimes

"Ooooh what a class goal by Iwobi"

"Walcott with a tasty goal and an assist, could this be his form coming back?"

"Akpom scores yet again, maybe he can break the first team!"

90th minute - "We've got no players, we're fucked, club in crisis, Vengah get your cheque book out!" and Twitter explodes with negativity.

*all the time

Koscielny is gonna have to start on Sunday now really isn't he? We don't have a lot of choice.

I'd agree, not ideal to be rushing back in but can't start against a fired up Liverpool with Chambers & Holding, worry though is rushing him back into action so quickly whilst not match fit runs the risk of him pulling something too.

Not many other options, can't put Coq with Chambers in a game like this and even if we do sign somebody can't chuck them in that quickly.

Only other option is Monreal-Chambers with Gibbs at left back. But tbh I'd have thought Kos should be ok if he's back in training today. He can always sit out a game or two in a couple of weeks if we do end up signing Mustafi or whoever.

I just think we need native players in the position, Liverpool are coming off a full Klopp pre-season and their high press and energy will be high, I'd worry about Monreal getting swamped and nobody to tell Chambers what to do

Even the mention of Jonny Evans being linked to us shows how badly wrong our squad/transfer policy has gone.

If you don't want to spend the 25mil on Mustafi (who I've never heard of but people seem to rate) why not try and wave a few quid at Swansea and get Williams as a shorter term old head, see if they'll bite.

Jonny Evans was never really good enough in his prime at utd, and is unlikely to have got better with age. Being cheap and available shouldn't be mistaken for being good enough, he's clearly not.

just looked him up and he's still only 28, I thought he was much older  - maybe we're hoping for one of those later career center back maturing things that can happen

Williams was awful in the Euros -- I'm not convinced there's a huge gulf between him and Evans, personally. Evans is certainly better at playing out from the back, which suits our game.

Neither of them is good enough to be anything other than a stopgap though, which I just don't see the point of given Mertesacker's situation, Gabriel's injury/apparent lack of quality, and Wenger's apparent lack of faith in Chambers.

I notice we are playing down Gabriel's injury publicly this morning, which we were always likely to do given that we don't want to appear too desperate for a replacement. I suspect in reality he will be out for some time though.

I think we'll probably end up signing Mustafi, but I can't see it happening this week.

Not sure how Evans as done at West Brom but he was awful the last 2 seasons at United.

Was their POTY last season I think. He definitely tailed off in his last year or two at Utd but there was a period under Ferguson where he was probably their best CB.

Anyways I don't think we'll sign him unless something goes seriously awry with Mustafi or whoever so there's probably no need for Steve to have that aneurysm just yet.

It's just all so uninspiring isn't it. There's very little for our fans to get excited about, while our main rivals are strengthening their squads with quality players.

The latest Arsecast Extra was pretty funny with Andrew having a maniacal breakdown when considering whether Arsenal had done any preparation for the transfer window at all  (also he finally tries a Nandos)

I'm still fairly optimistic that we will bring some more decent players in.  Wenger always keeps his cards close to his chest and has a history of acquiring key signings in the final week/day of the window.  I really hope we can hold our own against Liverpool on Sunday because the team we will most likely field is still very strong.  I can't be doing with the booing, signs and twitter nastiness that will result if we get beaten on the opening day.

Stones is probably the first player to move anywhere this window who I'd have actually really liked us to sign. Not at all arsed about any other player other clubs have bought so far.

Also don't forget that we already bought the best defensive midfielder on the market anywhere this summer, and that was a real problem position for us last year. It's not enough but it is significant, and we're clearly not done in the market.

It's just a shame that football matches are on the horizon, as it really gets in the way of the transfer window main event. The sooner they put a stop to teams playing actual football the better IMO.

Is this the same Mustafi that didn't really get anywhere at Everton a few years ago? I don't know much about him at all but it's always interesting when players fall through the gaps but then come back.
