If we do and we wouldn't up our 40million & a quid bid for Suarez then I'm done.

People are still saying this like it would have made any difference, then...

John Henry admitted Suarez had a release clause of £40m. We activated the clause. Liverpool decided they simply weren't going to sell him to a domestic rival, knowing that there was nothing Arsenal could do from a legal perspective as there was no contract between Arsenal and Liverpool. Suarez would have had to take Liverpool to court himself to force his way out.

Considering he probably didn't especially want to join Arsenal (more that he just wanted to leave Liverpool and Arsenal were the only ones stumping up the cash at the time), and having been talked around by Gerrard, he obviously decided it wasn't worth the strife and signed a new contract instead which removed that release clause.

When I go into Tesco I don't offer them £5 for some £1 bread so that I can close the deal quickly. And besides, there is absolutely nothing to suggest that offering £50m or £60m would have made Liverpool any more likely to sell to us.

Not good enough by what measure? He's an amazing player and he's only 23. Who are you going to get cheaper than that who is better? Dybala might be marginally better at scoring, but with the Real Madrid buy-back on Morata there's no way they're letting both go.

We paid (adjusted for inflation) £37m for someone who managed an entire 3 goals in 16 appearances at Juve, can't remember how he did. Probably shit.

I think Juve have been prepared to lose Morata since the day they signed him tbh, seems to me the plan has always been to bring Berardi back when it happens and turn a tidy profit on Morata returning to Real Madrid as a player ready to compete. Rumour is he's being offered as part of a deal for James Rodriguez.

Real are in no greater need of Morata now than when they let him go though, surely? He's not better than Benzema at this moment time (though I suppose he's also not potentially incarcerated).

As for his price, he's not had a great season it seems but there's still bags of potential there, and the centre foward market is still dead as fuck. As much as I think Giroud is unfairly maligned a lot of the time, I really can't handle another season of him as first choice striker.

I think we're being used as a bartering tool to be honest. He feels like something Real are missing and seems suited to Zidane, who definitely dislikes James. We might get Benzema out of it, if he's not put off Wenger with the whole sex-tape blackmail weirdness. But we probably won't.

But in a theoretical "Pay £51m, get Morata" universe, I'm very happy with that.

You are happy to pay 51million for a striker with 15 in 86 league games to replace Giroud who regularly nets 15-20 a season?

Football economics are not of the normal world - the TV money has more than doubled in the last year or so, whilst the pool of quality players being fought over remains at the same size.

A £20m fee from only a season or two ago is now easily £40-50m for the same player.

It's in 15 in 86 league games, the vast majority of those are substitute appearances, mostly ten or fifteen minutes. Giroud stood in front of Ozil managed a goal every 152 minutes, Morata is on a goal every 201 minutes whilst being 6 years younger.

Don't worry, we'll be the same when he's playing for Chelsea next season.

(Really wish they'd announce things before doing anything like taking photos. We can wait to see them in a shirt!)

Yeah, seeing as he appears to be wearing the new shirt, and that's supposed to be unveiled tomorrow, it's entirely possible it's done and that they'll wait and do announcements/features on the website at the same time, or something like that.

Ha!  I hope he's happy to have wasted his career.

Aren't our kit releases normally mid July? i'm guessing they have moved it forward due to all the exposure around the leaked Xhaka pictures.

Another new kit?  Fucks sake.  Clubs should be forced to use the same home shirt for 2 seasons.

There was a rumour that our deal for Mata went as far as the kit pictures being done before the contract was agreed, Chelsea got wind and essentially doubled our wage offer.

Not sure how accurate it is, but I'm pretty sure that we flew him over and then Chelsea did their thing.

Also, never forget:

Woah! Arsenal buying a striker who scores goals?! Is Wenger okay? And hes old! And not French!

He's sure to be injured for at least 5 months of the season.

Nah, I'm sure Vardy will suit Arsenals non-possesion counter attacking football style.

Okay that's a slight misnomer because perhaps Wenger is trying to being back the Henry style of play.
