Surely our medical team have to take some responsibility for this? How does a guy come back from a year out with a knee injury, only to go down with another serious injury a few months later. I'm sure it will be put down to 'bad luck', but I'm confident this wouldn't have happened if he'd been playing for anyone else. This, only a few weeks after The Ox re-injured himself with a new knee injury.

This was an impact injury to the other knee than his previous issue. It is literally 100% bad luck.

Terrible news about Welbeck, he was starting to look very good and seems to have no problem coming on as a sub or playing across the front 3, will be hard to replace.

Lots of talk about Granit Xhaka, anyone seem him play?

I posted in the Liverpool thread back in the summer saying I wanted LFC to sign him. Gutted that it looks like you guys will get him. He's class.

He does seem to like a red card. Good range of passing. Won't pretend I'm an expert on Gladbach games, but I know a guy who is: http://goonersphere.com/columnists/thegarrison/6478-xhaka-why-arsenal-need-this-35m-arteta-upgrade

From the little I've seen I do think he's probably a better fit than Kanté, if those are indeed the two options for us. Kanté has looked brilliant in a team with basically no ambitions to pass the ball. That doesn't necessarily translate to a Wenger side in any way whatsoever.

I could make you look a top player on YouTube, he will be sent off regularly in an Arsenal shirt, I personally don't think the sort of money being spoke about is worth it for him

Yeah but he's a dominating, box to box defensive midfielder with an 85% pass success rate and I'd love to have that. Distributes and lays off well and shoots from range. A bit fiery, but then Arsenal are a bit soft. He's just the sort of player we need.

I'd get in quick and buy.

Considering all of the players we're linked with, except Lewandowski, I can't see a better purchase.

As I said on Twitter, he's a bit like Wilshere except he's a footballer rather than a rugby player.

I'm not wholly convinced, but I certainly don't think he's going to be a waste of money either.

The other news at the moment is that Morata has a buy-back price of £24m so Real are going to take him back from Juventus and sell him for a profit. I suspect they'll actually just take £10m from Juventus, but theoretically we're in that chase with Man Utd and I'd love to sign him. He's not quite a guarantee of goals compared to Lewandowski but he's young and very, very good.

Man Utd are ahead but you've got to question anyone willing to go from Juventus to playing in the Thursday Cup.

Looks like Xhaka is on the move then. I think this will prove to be a brilliant signing - not least because of his leadership qualities, something we need. We shall see.

Also there's this 750k bid for Bolton's Rob Holding, who's made only one defensive error this season. Don't know anything else about him.

I read that Arsenal can spend around £50M without selling.

We will be selling, although Welbeck and Ox injuries makes a right mess of that. We need to be spending more than £50m though, if £30m-ish is going on Xhaka that's only one more "proper" signing.

I don't think I've seen Bolton play all season. I can't remember doing so anyway, so I'm useless there.

We're fielding Wilshere and Cazorla in full Arsenal-injury-recovery-at-wrong-time comedy mode.

I assume Cazorla will be deeper than Wilshere, but I'm not actually sure about that.

Newcastle down to 10 men now. I actually want Spurs to get second. They deserve it more (or at least, we don't deserve a goddamn fucking thing from this season) and there's the ever so slight chance it might shake up the fuckwits at the Emirates into taking some kind of positive action.

Yeah, right, like that's ever going to happen.

Great run from Sissokho and then performs an exquisite dive to get a penalty. Proper top drawer stuff, in both cases.

Spurs had just changed to three at the back, so it was there for the taking.
