I would be very surprised if we lost both, I'd not be surprised to lose one.

Hummels to Bayern probably does tick the "big signing as a hello" box though. (And one that they actually need, too.)

Can we bin Gabriel off and sign Benatia instead?

We either need to blood Chambers and accept that he'll make Stones-esque fuck ups now and again, or get a new CB. Per is on the way out and Gabriel-Koscielny is certainly not the answer.

Its really weird that Wenger overlooks the fuck ups of some whilst completely ignoring others. I love Koscielny, but his first season here, at least the first dozeb games, he looked a bit iffy, but Wenger stuck with him and thats paid off. Chambers hasn't even really had the chance to do that and is pretty much sidelined and used as a utility player when we need to fill a hole despite looking more than reliable on the odd occassion he gets to play.

Remember when Chambers had that nightmare first half vs Liverpool? Didn't hide, didn't want to come off. Went back out there and was miles better in the second period. Showed a lot of character for a young player.

Played in midfield against Bournemouth. Did pretty well. Hasn't been used there since. Played Flamini with Ramsey instead of Chambers or Elneny and we all know how that went.

Came on against Leicester when Koscielny went off injured and was superb. Hasn't played there since, despite Gabriel making costly errors against United, Swansea and Watford (off the top of my head - there are probably others).

I just don't understand it. He's such an obvious replacement for Mertesacker in so many ways that Gabriel isn't.

I see Wenger is blaming our failure to win the league on the home 'support'. Fantastic trolling. He's got a point that the home crowd is terrible and gets on the team's case almost immediately, but it's a chicken and egg situation. What came first - the impatient, grumbling home crowd, or the turgid stasis on the pitch?

And at the end of the day if you're going to treat fans like pure consumers, you have to accept that they will be quick to turn if the 'product' you're putting out is substandard.

The substandard product would be accepted more readily (or at least more patiently) if it wasn't the most expensive in the world. It's like Apple releasing the iPhone 7 for £900 that's actually two cans with a bit of string.

They're not even good cans.

Football wants to have things all ways, treat fans as though they are just wallets to be emptied who have no role to play in the club other than throwing money at it, then when people get a bit shirty and acting like the customers they are treated as and question the value for money in what they've been given the clubs go 'ooh thats not the way a fan should behave'

Football has taken the people who go to games for granted for too long, and we're just now seeing the worm turning this season and the clubs will need to listen - nothing lasts forever, just ask Serie A from the 1980s.

I do  think people deliberately misunderstand what he says sometimes, he was saying if there was  a league table comprised of away results only that we are top of that, it was preceded by the statement that we've lost the title with our home form (and comments about the atmosphere at home). Its all a bit adrian durham and talksport with people implying he wants a trophy for winning the away league.

haha, just seen the actual away table above, missed that. OK so he was a bit confused

I think what he's actually saying is that we've earned less of the points we should have earned at home than away, which is probably right but also conveniently impossible to measure.

Obviously there are some twats about, but anyone reasonable knows that there are few managers who could have paid for the stadium as he did. That's gone though, so whilst it would be nice for him to explain why we didn't sign anyone last summer, he needs to focus on explaining how he's going to improve things next year. Nothing else matters now, because it's that which will get us over the line this year too.

If the rumours are true, surely Lewandowski would be a good buy. Come on Wenger, change your ways, you need to spend all that money.

I don't think there's a cheaper solution to buying a striker that leads to keeping Sanchez and Ozil, so it might actually appeal to him. Plus he's only 27, which surprised me.

If we sign him and Xhaka and a couple of youngsters destined for the first team (ideally fullback who can play on either side) and we'd probably be in a good shape. I'd be inclined to trust Chambers unless an obvious improvement appears on the market.

We won't finish in the top 6 if we're not significantly stronger next season. Yesterday's match was yet another reminder of that.

Hopefully the failed protest will calm Wenger down.

What do you mean change your ways? last 3 seasons we have brought Sanchez £30m , Ozil £40m and Cech £10m. not exactly penny pinching is it?

Those buys were good business for sure but it's not been enough. Honestly I think he needs to spend at least £150M now to launch a serious campaign to win the title in today's premiership. This is not Leicester.

You don't see Wenger as a manager who is too reliant on what he already has? He's been like that for years, admittedly with some positive moves more recently, like the buys you mention.

It it has as much to do with Kroenke and Wenger's business relationship as it does anything else. That quote from Stan about not making championship wins part of a watertight business campaign was a huge, revealing clanger which will keep clanging until the club changes hands.

Yes when it's about the same spend as Newcastle did in the past couple of windows.

Also when Arsenal's rivals are spending double that.

I'd love lewandowski in the prem, go get him for 60m!

Whats interesting about that match is that Dier should have been sent off. That makes a difference to the title run in.

Might anything else come out after this evening? I'd half expect a charge of disrepute against the club, they just went crazy at the end.

Dembele has to get a ban for gouging Costa. Lamela on Fabregas' hand might have been seen, but if not that'll be investigated too and I didn't see what happened at the end, but there was certainly more then. Both clubs will definitely both be fined, but that doesn't really matter.

Southampton with the Pochettino link isn't going to be any easy game for them, that was where I was expecting them to mess up. Sadly they need to drop points in both their last two games due to goal difference, but it's possible. Not likely, but possible.

Surely the fights on he pitch (let alone the one by the entrance to the tunnel.) are enough for the FA to look into a points deduction. they had at least 3 "brawls" that where as bad as the old trafford one that cost us 2 points in 90 or 91 was it?

Lamela on Fabregas ? Looked to me

like Fabregas slapped Lamela's leg and then started rolling around on the floor !

He stood on Fabregas' hand when Fabregas was on his hands and knees. As much as he might have faked it, when he's showing the mark on his hand to the ref and linesman he clearly wasn't.
