Leadership doesn't just mean shouting at the boys. I think we're short of players who can grab a game by the scruff of the neck and visibly lead by example. I'd say in terms of inspirational effort the full backs can't be faulted,  nor can Kos mostly. Ramsey is a weird one cos he doesn't stop but doesn't come up with big tackles nor is he overly influential in an obvious way beyond getting a goal. Alexis runs his nuts off but is a bit selfish and end product can be frustrating. Beyond that I suppose Flamini - oh God - at the very least he really goes at it vocally and physically. Coquelin I guess looks focused most of the time and knows his role. Ozil gets by on talent. Stats show that he runs a lot but so does Eddie Izzard. Ozil shirks tackles and looks disinterested.

Dunno, we just look flat and bland. Maybe Arsene has lost them. I look at them and it's hard to tell who really looks overly fussed.

I like the chat in this thread as an outsider, and I don't mean to laugh at your current predicament, but it's been worth it for this comment, which has had me laughing like a drain

What a bunch of shite.

Where are we going to pick up points if not against a potential relegation candidate at home when we're in the lead? Literally every team in the top half of the table are now thinking that they can nudge ahead of us. I don't even know if I'm exaggerating or not any more.

It's weird to see that almost every player is underperforming. Normally it's just two or three.

Campbell was doing quite well, to be fair. At least he'll be fresh for next match! Top management!

Bye Arsene.

Him leaving the club can't come soon enough.  If he doesn't choose to go then he should be sacked.

Ideally he should be sacked before the Spurs game and at least the players would pull their fingers out their arses and play for their futures as well as for the good of the club.  I'm convinced we'd win more points between now and the end of the season without Wenger standing on the touchline like a twat.

Anyone who thinks he should stick around for another season are part of the problem.  They can clear off as well.

Sadly the board and the way they are steering the club are the core of the issues.  They are happy to plod along and happy to see the club meeting the target of >4th each year.  Until their ambition changes then I fear we will continue to tread water.  We'll stand a much better chance with a proper coach at the club though which is why Wenger needs to clear his desk and get out.

That's not good.  We *really* need him to be fit for Spurs.

He's probably broken for Barcelona as well. Whilst that doesn't actually matter, it's possible that will be quite...Messy.

OH GOD IT IS GOING SO BADLY I AM DOING PUNS.

Hence 'almost'. But you're right there.

Giroud - no goals

Alexis - no form

Theo - no everything

Ramsey - no help (from other players)

Coquelin - no attacking prowess

Mertesacker - no speed

Gabriel - no clue

Bellerin - no problem with him

Monreal - also no problem with him

Cech - no hamstring and out for Spurs.

The most frustrating thing for me was every time a pass was misplaced, players just stopped and threw their hands up. Keep chasing the ball and trying to get it back, you tits.

Arsene will always go on his terms, he has too much power and respect within the club for anything else to happen.

If we continue in this rut, I guess there's a chance he'll be self-aware enough to see that he's fucked it big time and step down in the summer. But then do you trust Gazidis and the board to appoint the right guy? I quite like Ivan but I worry that he'd make even more of a bollocks of it than Woodward did at United.

I think Wenger will probably see out his final year regardless to be honest, unless it really does go to shit and we finish outside the top four.

Isn't this just par for the course?

Arsenal suggest around Christmas that they may have the credentials to win the league.

Stutter Jan-Feb, suggestions they many lose it entirely and drop out of the CL places. Drop out of the CL at round 2.

Consolidate, finish strongly and finish 3rd or 4th.

The only thing that's changed is that they also win the FA Cup every year now for some reason.

Surely there is zero surprise. I can understand why fans get so frustrated, it's pretty boring to be so predictable, even if most clubs would swap with you in a second.

Wenger has always prided himself on not resigning before the end of the contract.

Let's face it, the Board are shitting themselves at the prospect of replacing him even in a years time so there is no way he will be sacked, and far more likely to be offered a new deal to put off the decision even further (they hope).  I have no confidence in them at all.

Grim times indeed - dissent was always likely to bubble back to the surface quickly after a few poor results but we really seem to be in a trough at present.  One of our problems may be that we seem to have gotten used to a special player digging us out of holes for years now and neglected sound team work (think later Henry, RVP, Cesc, Santi, Sanchez), which other teams seem to manage time and time again. I've heard the argument that a detailed team plan helps players lacking confidence to put in a decent shift, but that doesn't seem to be our way. We only seem to have managed to play as a real team a few times this season.

I hope we practice penalties before Tuesday.

That's fine when we're behind Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea as they are wealthier clubs. But Spurs and Leicester? Nah, that's not par for the course at all.

Even those who love him irrevocably and want him to stay on would have to admit that Wenger is currently making a balls up of this. There is absolutely no way that a) he went into the season with a properly balanced squad (again), and b) he is getting the most out of the players he has at his disposal. No way.

Sort of. Realistically, we've only been a title-contending team since we bought Sanchez. Before then, paying for the stadium was the chosen priority. But even taking that into account, the difference is that in every other year, the winners in other seasons have been teams that everyone (Wenger, team, fans, board, press) can all agree it'd be difficult to compete with, they've always been the predicted top few teams. Either Ferguson's Man Utd, Mourinho and Chelsea's billions, Man City's billions. If Liverpool had won when they had Suarez there would have been a mild question raised, but even that can be dismissed with "but Suarez".

This season, even if you choose to disregard Leicester there's no way we shouldn't be finishing above Spurs. We have genuine superstars, more revenue, everything. In the same way City and Chelsea, probably Man Utd, should always be expected to finish above us, we should finish above Spurs. That our standard season puts that at risk is disastrous. If Leicester had this kind of season and everyone else finished as expected, we'd be down in 6th, probably by quite a margin. We can't expect to keep our top players if that's the case, so we'll find it almost impossible to get back into the Champion's League.

It's really bad.
