Something the post-Fabregas/Nasri side has shown on a regular basis is a good ability to bounce back from disappointing results. Ok so Bournemouth and Newcastle at home are two games you want maximum points from, but coming after the Southampton tonking, and with everyone looking pretty tired, those are actually two good wins.

Ramsey and Ozil in particular look like they're running on fumes, though. I think one of them will get a rest vs Sunderland, and we should see a run out for Alexis in that game all being well. Hopefully we can get this Elneny lad in quickly too as we could really use another option in the middle. I've seen some people say he's a holding player and others say he's more box-to-box, so it could be that he can offer a bit of cover for Ramsey as well as compete with Flamini/Chambers.

I think if we're going to rest him, Sunderland at home in the FA Cup is the time to try it. Chambers DM, Flamini B2B, Ramsey 10 (ideally coming off at 70 mins to give Alexis a run out). Not ideal but we surely can't keep hanging on for the likes of Rosicky or Wilshere to come back. Our next two games after Sunderland are at places we've struggled at in recent years, and we need Özil reasonably fresh.

Fuck me the last ten minutes of that were ridiculously tense and nervous. Arsenal so determined not to calmly see out the 1-0 win!

Whilst the performance was as abysmal as the weather, I can't help but be impressed with the determination of most of the players. The defence owe Cech a drink after he kept us in the game though with a couple of amazing saves.

We were bloody awful, but it's a game we simply wouldn't have won last season so I'm very pleased with the 3 points and the 3 points is all that matters. I'm sure he's going to rest quite a few players for the Sunderland game. Ramsey looked destroyed at the final whistle and the likes of Bellerin & Ozil could do with a rest.

It's the sort of match which wins you championships, definitely.

Either Ramsey just shows it more than other players, or he really isn't fit enough. He's always the first to look tired. As much as Bellerin needs a rest, it seems likely that Debuchy is disappearing this window so I don't think he'd play and Chambers seems likely to play as DM you'd assume. Ozil can definitely stay at home though, as much as we'll need him to break down Sunderland the outcome is much more likely that they'll break him instead.

He has easily the best engine in the squad. Played six full 90s in four weeks, but look at the sitter he missed at the end: he starts the move, plays a long pass to Özil, then gets up there to create a chance for himself which he obviously should have finished. No other player in the squad has the stamina to do that. Christ, I'm not sure there's another in the entire league.

Contrast that with Campbell who still blows out of his arse after an hour even after a good run of games to build his fitness.

He works hard, but I don't think he has the fitness to back up the willpower. That's still better than most players, but he can't keep up with what he asks from himself.

And it's clearly Sanchez who has the best engine in the squad. He's terrifyingly fit.

my son's hooked on matches. We're going to the 3R game against Sunderland on saturday.

This is going to get expensive.

I think we'll put out a team of nobodies and lose, so it might cure it. As nice as it would be to win it again, aiming for a double seems a little bit silly unless we're buying a handful of players.

Apparently this Elneny guy hasn't trained today for Basel as they're trying to sort out a transfer.

Honestly it would be pretty good if we could get it done by Friday because then I think he probably goes straight into the side for the Cup game. Bellerin could use a break but it seems we won't be playing Debuchy, therefore ideally we want Chambers freed up from midfield to play RB. Also, Liverpool/Stoke away or Chelsea at home are much tougher games to throw a new player into.

Ospina - Chambers, Gabriel, Koscielny, Gibbs - Flamini, Elneny - Campbell, Jeff, Ox - Walcott

Subs: Cech, Mertesacker, Monreal, Ramsey, Ozil, Alexis, Giroud

I know that's a pretty bollocks side but Sunderland will also be rotating as they too have an important away game midweek. If Elneny isn't done in time then I guess Ox in CM and Iwobi on the left. And we'll have a strong bench if things go tits up and we need a goal.

I think he's meant to be in the squad for Saturday's game vs Sunderland. Probably aiming for him to be more heavily involved against Liverpool next Wednesday.

Apparently Arteta is back in training and played for the U21s, and Rosicky (!) is back in training as well. I guess Arteta might be on the bench for Sunderland in case of emergency, but I can't imagine Rosicky will be in the squad for that game.

Still no sign of The Wilsh, and I've heard whispers from a couple of people that Welbeck is proper fucked. I think if we see him this season it'll be an unexpected bonus.

edit: Alexis hasn't made it for the weekend, and won't be back for Liverpool either. Arteta is available so I guess he'll be on the bench.

Regardless of the result the officiating was dire today.

Yeah, that ref didn't want to give us anything at all. I wouldn't mind if he was consistent with his decisions for both sides but he wasn't. That's the sign of a terrible referee.
