The only reason to want to draw Atletico is because you want to concentrate on the league.

No, it's because I would like to see them as I said above. It would be a great couple of games as long as we were mostly free of injuries. We can't win the champions league so I'd rather see what should be a highly entertaining tie over two legs rather than getting drubbed by Barcelona or tactically outsmarted by some of the other options available. AM v Arsenal would be a great draw.

Did I hear David Moyes saying the jury is still out on Ozil?

Hasn't he been utterly fantastic since he came back from injury, what, a year ago?

Rumours today that Madrid would want him back too. Hopefully not - he's fast becoming one of my favourite PL players ever.

There's a rumour that Arsenal will offer him a new deal which adds a whopping £50k per week on top of his current salary (taking him to £180k a week) for a further 5 years. They'll be no shortage of takers so it's important to tie him down as soon as possible and not let him run down his contract like some many players have done in the past.

I'm hoping for Real personally. Barca we've played so many times so fuck that. I don't want to go to Russia in February so fuck that. Atletico and their coach are a bunch of snide, well-drilled bastards who would probably snuff us out so fuck that. Wolfsburg would be ok but it's not got the glitz of Real. Madrid is a nice enough place for jars. And I think we can actually beat them under Rafa. Real Madrid please.

Was always gonna happen wasn't it. Screw it, I'm looking forward to it anyway!!

I'm not. We struggle against the real elite teams that pass the ball around us for fun so I don't really want to see us get mauled twice in the same season. We're also at home first which is the best possible outcome for Barcelona.

We really need to start winning the fucking group...

To progress the focus must be on the home leg where a win is an absolutely must. To lose or draw at home and then face having to go to the Nou Camp to get a win would be a very tall order. Going to the Nou Camp with a 2-0 first leg win would be very nice :eyebrows:

In terms of progression, I don't think Barce are our worst chance. We're both different teams now and there's a reasonable chance of outscoring them if Ozil, Sanchez and Walcott are all on the pitch. We are a massive counter-attacking threat again now and Barce never like that.

Mildly tedious and I'd still say fuck it and concentrate on the league, but it's very doable compared to Atletico. Real could have gone either way, you've no idea who will turn up there.

Going forward has never been a problem, it's our defence. Going into the tie potentially without a proper DM and having Mertesacker at the back vs Neymar, Messi etc worries me.

As much as it doesn't inspire confidence, it is the best in the Premiership if you ignore the Man Utd dullathon in terms of goals conceded. There's not a centre-half pairing on earth that wouldn't go into a match against Barce as massive longshots. Having Cech behind them rather than Chesney is a massive, massive boost too.

I don't think we'll win, but I definitely think we could.

Also, unrelated, Chelsealol.

ChelseaLOL, indeed. Watching Mourinho act like such a porkchop this season has really made me appreciate Wenger. Yeah, he doesn't always get it right but I really respect the way he conducts himself (incl. shoving Mourinho when needed). We'll miss him when he leaves, for sure.

Sucks to draw Barça, but I agree that this is one of our better teams for a while so while I'm not expecting us to progress, I'm hoping we'll give a better account of ourselves than we did against Bayern. I'm predicting we'll draw one game and lose the other. I just want us to start the second leg and still be in it, rather than having to score 4 away goals against Europe's best team.

I'm not sure about playing Mertesacker vs MSN. We could go with Gabriel instead because he was part of a miserly Villarreal defence and his La Liga experience, speed and safety-first approach might be what we need.

Hopefully Wenger does the right thing and plays defensively, looking to hit on the break but it's gonna be difficult to do that without Le Coq busting things up.

There's a chance Coquelin will be back by the time we play the away leg though right? It's not until March 16th so that's nearly 4 months since he sustained his injury. If the 3 month recovery time is right then he should be back in business by then with any luck.

Failing that I'd just get Arteta fit (lol) then keep him wrapped in cotton wool until March, because I do not wanna see Flamini pointing and shouting at Camp Nou.

What are we thinking tonight then? I reckon we're definitely better than them on our day, but it's obviously hard to know which Arsenal will show up. I think Vinnie and Zabaleta are still out for them, and Aguero is probably not 100%.

I suspect we'll see the same XI from us as Olympiakos/Villa, as I can't imagine Alexis will be fit to start the game. I think it's more likely (and more prudent) to use him as an emergency option off the bench if we need a goal in the last half an hour.

edit: I guess the only potential change AW might make is starting Ox, if he thinks Walcott and Bellerin is asking for trouble against Sterling and Kolarov. That might be sensible, actually; even if Ox isn't in good form, him or Campbell will always offer a bit more defensively than Theo will.
