Cristiano Ronaldo has instagrammed a photo of him and the squad on a plane in full Real Madrid gear, meanwhile Benzema has insta'd a photo of him on a private jet, with the caption "let the past stay in the past" flying seperately to them, or to a different location, Benzema also follows 39 people on Instagram as of Today, with the last one being 'wengerland'

Is it actually happening? somebody hold me.

I can't be the only one who doesn't give a flying one about Benzema?

Is he better than Giroud? I've seen no real evidence that he is. It'd be a sign of intent, no doubt, but I'm not sure that having Benzema makes our team (not squad) any better.

I'd much prefer Benzema leading the line away to Chelsea or Man United than Giroud, infact i think that's the crux of our problem in Europe and the likes of Chelsea.

Giroud is a top striker, but only when he's got people playing off of him, in 90% of the games when we have more of the ball, get people in and around the box he will do a great job, but in the 10% of games when the other team has more or equal possession and we have to try and hit them on the counter Giroud offers next to nothing, he cant carry the ball, he doesnt feed off scraps very well and he's quite easy to mark out of the game as he tends to get very isolated.

Benzema is the opposite, and top class with it, plus it's the sort of signing that lifts the fans and the squad, and is very much a statement of intent.

He's got 20+ in every season since 2010/11 despite being Ronaldo's bitch. 42 Champions League goals in 72 games.

If we're saying he's not in the world's top 5 CFs then who is? Diego Costa was good enough to win the league even when not fully fit, and I think Benzema is better than him in every aspect apart from mentality (Costa is a stone cold killer while Benzema is admittedly a bit of a soft sulker).

I'm still sceptical that Real will sell, but I'm sure we'll do everything we can to make it happen, especially as Welbeck's knee problem seems an ongoing issue.

I'm not actually being serious! That said we still have loons in our online ranks, like any club.

Anyways I said Benz was top 5 CFs without really thinking about it but after more consideration I actually think he's No3 for me.

1. Aguero

2. Suarez

3. Benzema

4. Costa

5. Zlatan

Honourable mention for Lewandowski.

Fucksake now I'm starting to believe it might happen. Need to go back into sceptical mode to save myself the pain.

He was probably No3 a year ago but he's waning a bit now I think

Right had a few Twitter exchanges about this and I'm firmly back in common sense land where there's absolutely zero logic to Real selling Benzema. Panic over.

Benzema's agent came out a few days ago saying he was 1000% staying. Not to mention the fact Perez loves him. Don't think there's any chance of this happening.

That's exactly what I'd say if I was his agent and I wanted a higher fee!

It's almost confirmation that it's happening!

The reasons presented for why this is A Thing seem to be:

"They'll sign Reus" - is this even being suggested in the press anymore? I've seen nothing about anyone signing Reus this summer. And even if they did, who plays No9?

"Ronaldo" - I get that he's an end product merchant these days who eschews build up entirely, but he's still scoring loads on the left. Why fuck with that to such an extent? And he must wield a lot of influence at the club - would he want that? Unless Ronaldo himself is really up for it, this seems far fetched at this point.

"Ok Bale then" - Totally untested. Not sure I've ever seen him play there. Would be mad to sell one of the world's best No9s to experiment with Bale.

"Jesé?" - obviously a massive downgrade. The biggest club in the world isn't going to have Jesé as first choice centre forward with a couple of wingers as backup.

"A new No9" - who can they buy who's better than Benzema? Agüero isn't moving this summer. One of Zlatan/Cavani? I guess that's not a big downgrade, but I think you'd be hearing about it in the Spanish press if it was on the cards, and as far as I know there's not a peep. Furthermore, why would Real accept any downgrade whatsoever, unless Benzema really pushed to leave? Zlatan is old and Cavani may never recover his best form.

Basically, there is no logic for Real to want Benzema gone, as there is no one they can sign who improves them without a significant and risky overhaul. With Özil, they had signed Isco and Bale, and the player was unhappy at his start under Ancelotti, so there was some logic to it (even though it seems Real would have preferred to sell ADM at the time). With Alexis, Suarez had come in so again, there was obvious incentive for the club to sell and incentive for the player to go. Currently there are no such factors to facilitate Benzema leaving, and I can see no way for them to arise either.

Unless something has happened behind the scenes to make him want to jack in his status as the undisputed centre forward at the world's biggest club, or Perez takes his often bizarre transfer policy to a new level of daft, I just don't see how this is feasible. We can't tempt him with a ludicrous salary so really, unless he has some personal reason for wanting out, it just seems a non-starter to me.

Well we haven't signed Benzema but Szczesny to Roma is done so we've still managed to strengthen the squad today ;)

It's a season-long loan. I truly hope that he has a great season and actually makes something of his talent, he seems like a great guy and I'd love him to be a success when he gets back to Arsenal. I think this is his last chance.
