I don't know what I'm more happy about, us signing Cech or the fact that this was obviously against Mourinho's wishes! Hopefully he'll start fighting with his players and Abramovich this season then will be off next year.

Delighted that Jenkinson has been given an extended contract and has only joined West Ham on loan again this season. One more year there and Bellerin/Jenkinson with Chambers as a back-up and Debuchy sold will be an excellent position to be in.

Rosicky injured for the start of the season.

Anyone else think it's really strange that we extended his contract for next year? I suppose there's still a chance he could go if we bring in a midfielder, but I suspect if we sign anyone else now it'll be an attacker.

I heard some rumours he was unhappy last season tbh, I think it was speculated to be personal/family stuff. If he does go it certainly won't be for footballing reasons, as he was one of our most consistent performers last season.

Looks like Flamini is off to Galatasaray. Farewell Mathieu, you were good at pointing and shouting but not very good at football. This does leave us rather light in that position though, especially as Arteta still seems to be having fitness problems. If we could keep Arteta fit then I'd say defensive midfield is less important than getting a top forward in, but it looks increasingly like that's not going to be possible anymore.

That said, I don't really know who we could buy at this point. It's not a very good market, probably even worse than the centre forward market tbh. Javi Martinez is still half dead and probably not for sale. The Bender bros have stagnated a bit and probably aren't enough of an upgrade on what we have. Illarramendi would be a risk and he may get more playing time under Benitez. Big Bill Carvalho has a broken leg. I literally can't think of anyone else.

Other stuff: I'm confused about what's going on with Fenton. I figured he'd be sold this summer for sure but now it looks like that isn't happening. Thing is, it doesn't sound like he's particularly close to signing a new deal either. I assume we'll come to an agreement eventually because if we wanted him gone surely we'd have put effort into shifting him this summer while we can still command a fee.

Stuff today: looks like Szczesny might be going after all, with Roma apparently about to take him on loan with an option to buy for €5m. If that's right then I have to assume Wenger has definitely had enough and badly wants rid of him, because that price is very low indeed. I assume if he does go for such a low fee, we'll at least insert a hefty sell-on clause in there should he ever fulfill his potential and get a bigger move elsewhere. I'd much rather have Cech & Szczesny than Cech and Ospina, but then I don't see what goes on at the club so if Arsene thinks Woj has to go then I'm happy to defer to his judgement on that one.

Also apparently we're after Sergi Samper from Barca B. Can't say I've ever seen him play I don't think, but he seems to be a highly-rated Busquets-type midfielder. To be honest the link smacks of the guy using outside interest to get some first team guarantees from Barcelona, but who knows. Like I said, defensive midfield is not a very good market so getting someone younger with lots of potential might be necessary.

The Benzema links are still bubbling away, but I can't see it myself. The only way I think they countenance him leaving is if they buy Reus, but I haven't seen much of that in the press and normally with Real they're not shy about letting their papers tap up their targets.

I'm okay with either combination of keepers, but that's a ridicuously low offer for Szcz, especially with the loan deal as part of it.

I mean, I don't particularly even rate him at €5m, but in today's marketplace etc etc. I suppose it's a good chance to give him a year away from the club and see if he can sort himself out. Maybe we'll have Cech and a focussed Szcz next year.

€5m is like £3.5m. Even if you don't rate Szczesny that highly surely you have to agree that's a ridiculously bad selling price, considering his age, experience, and the level he's capable of when he's not being a twat.

He maintained a very high level of form for the entirety of 2013, as an example. But this is rather tired ground now I feel!

I do wonder what the long-term plan is now though, because Cech is obviously only really a short-term solution and there's no way Ospina will ever be good enough to be first choice. Maybe Martinez is rated more highly than we realise.

Cech has got another 5 years in him, in football terms that isn't a short-term solution. He'll want to stay for as long as possible as he clearly put up a fight to be in London, so as long as we want him to he'll stay I think, he'll get less fussy about first team game time towards the end of that time too.

I don't really care what happens with Szczesny. I can see he can come good, but I'm a long way off being convinced he will.

For the rest of the team I'd be happy with one more Big Signing, as we've done the last couple of years with Ozil and Sanchez. Mildly surprised we've not been linked to Muller, as much as he'd be expensive it's hard to think of anyone more suited to what we want right now.

I've no idea how much he is being paid, have there been any hints? Based on last year, you'd assume he's more similar to the signing of Welbeck rather than Sanchez though.

That said, our last two big signings have been sort of open secrets. It seems we've decided we're not interested in Pedro and there's no real hint that anyone else is actively for sale, but if a big transfer happens somewhere else (as happened with Bale/Ozil) it might free someone up to pounce on.

I do think we need something more if we want a title push, and I think we should, but Cech could well be enough alone to ensure a productive season if he fits in well.
