The Cup final against them boring fuckers Chelski when Theo scored the opening goal.

Ah now see, that game was on Sky, right? And the biggest event was the brawl and the 3 red cards, yeah? So I only ever saw the fight. the game and the result being overshadowed by that.

Completely forgot about the actual match. :(

First this:

There was further intrigue in the Arsenal boardroom today as it emerged that former managing director Ken Friar has transferred almost £1million of shares to chairman Peter Hill-Wood for free.

The mysterious transaction is the latest move to cause alarm among supporters, who believe the club's directors and major shareholders are preparing to sell the club to a foreign investor.

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood now has a stake of 500 ordinary shares

A statement from the alternative Plus Markets Group last night said Friar had transferred 152 shares to Hill-Wood at a zero price per share.

The transaction rounds up Hill-Wood's stake to 500 ordinary shares, increasing his holding to 0.80 per cent and diluting Friar's to a marginal 0.07 per cent.

It is rumoured the move is to settle a loan of shares Hill-Wood made to Friar in the 1980s.

Twelve days ago, principal shareholder, Danny Fiszman sold one per cent of his 25 per cent stake for £4m.

Shares are trading between £6,550-6,800, and speculation is rife that a mystery buyer is grabbing small groups of shares in preparation for a takeover bid.

American business tycoon Stan Kroenke is tipped to get the 9.99 per cent ITV holding.

Stan Kroenke - clarification re. Arsenal Holdings PLC

An article in The Times, dated March 27 2007, referred to Jurgen Mainka as being a spokesman for Stan Kroenke and reported Mr Mainka as having said, 'There's no interest or intention in buying any shares or any pieces of Arsenal Football Club, or any club in the Premier League'. Stan Kroenke wishes to make clear that Mr Mainka is not a spokesman for Stan Kroenke and these comments were not authorised by Stan Kroenke. Stan Kroenke does not comment on speculation.

I think we can see what's coming.

And so it begins.

I knew this shit was going to happen eventually. If this is just a rumour then it's only a temporary thing.

Maybe it's because I've had one too many beers but I have this awful feeling that I won't give two fucks about footie within the next 5-10 years because of stuff like this.

BTW, How did it go with all the people I tried to help watch footie on their pc? Did you get it to work? What did you think?

It's just a matter of time I'm afraid.

Edit: Just going back to the 100K fine, I've just read that Valencia and Inter were fined 106K (£) for their ruck.

Surely that one was a lot worse, that's why I though 100K was too high for what we did.

Franck Ribéry, the dynamic Marseilles winger who has been a target of Arsène Wenger for the past year, is believed to have reached a verbal agreement with the Arsenal manager that will see him arrive at the North London club this summer.

Wenger believed that he had secured a deal with Marseilles to sign Ribéry for a minimum of £13.5 million in August, but the Frenchman was persuaded to agree a new deal at the French club until 2010, increasing his wage to about £40,000 a week and providing a one-off bonus of £400,000.

Ribéry made an impression as one of France’s most exciting prospects at the World Cup finals in Germany last summer. His inspirational performances for Marseilles have resulted in him being hailed as the next Zinédine Zidane and earned him the young player of the year award in France last season.

Cool.

We've been short of a looker ever since Keown retired.

:o

Getting back to the subject of the club being bought out - what's everyone's take on this?

My own view is mixed as I don't want the club to be sold off but I'm wondering if we can sustain our position in the top 3 or 4 clubs if we don't have a massive cash injection like some of the others have received.

I heard from a friend of mine that we supposed to be earning a ton of cash after this year thanks to the new stadium so maybe my fears are unwarranted.

I'm against it cos it sells out the Club. I love the way we're run in the boardroom and the relationship Wenger has with everyone at the Club. In some ways I'd rather we stayed the same and were unsuccessful than get taken over and start buying trophies. I know what you're saying though, we might run the risk of losing our status in the elite. The revenue from the stadium is ENORMOUS though, we're on course to be genuinely one of the richest Clubs in the world. I hope that that's enough to allow us to compete and grow without investment.

The main shareholders (Fiszman, Dein, Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith) could make lots of money, I'm hoping they're in it for the right reasons and don't fold.

Yeah, that's what I heard. I don't know where my mate got his info from but he was talking about us possibly becoming one of the top 3 richest clubs in the world.

I was genuinly surprised by that especially when, for a short time, I was a bit against the new stadium as I'm an old fart and hate change and couldn't see how we were going to get all this extra cash from 20,000 or so extra seats.

Keith Edelman has explained how Arsenal’s season-ticket buy-back scheme will work when it is hopefully introduced next season.

The Club are planning to implement the system to ensure Emirates Stadium is as full as possible for every game.

Mr Edelman explained: “With this scheme, Season Ticket Holders, who are not using their seat for a particular match, will be able to sell them back to the Club after we have sold out and receive payment for the ticket. Then we’ll be able to sell that ticket back to another fan who is desperate to come to the match.

“It will be an online scheme and we have tried to keep costs down. The purchasers of tickets will pay no premium at all, other than the appropriate administration fee. The seller of the ticket will pay a 10 per cent fee."

Good idea this. Anyone know if any other Clubs do it?

I remembered this old article (Aug '05) not sure how accurate it is but it's very detailed.

Interesting reading.

Thanks for that as it's an interesting read.

By the end of the 2006/ 2007 season Arsenal's overall turnover will be close to Manchester Uniteds (possibly slightly more) and well ahead of any other club in the world.

Colour me surprised.

Arsenal Football Club is pleased to announce a freeze in both Matchday and Season Ticket prices for the 2007/08 season.

Including the last season at Highbury, before the Club’s move to the new 60,000 capacity Emirates Stadium, it will be the third successive season that ticket prices have remained constant.

Nice.

I walked past your ground the other day (first time I'd seen it). Stunning, really impressive

Ta ;) .

Yeah, the approach is one of my favourite bits. Past the big 3D Arsenal letters and across the bridge as the size of the thing dawns on you. It's nice to look up through the glass and see fans on the first floor, and equally nice looking down from the inside.

I got an egg timer. Yes, you did read that right.

:)

I had an old girlfriend who once got me a mop and bucket for my birthday! I'd just bought my first apartment and she 'thought it might come in useful'.

Mad thing was I had to meet all my mates for a night out in town after I'd had dinner with her and so had to drag this mop and bucket around with me all night. Quite funny when we went clubbing and had to check it into the cloakroom.

We've stayed friends since and we always laugh about it now but what a present to give someone especially a guy.
