Arsenal

We're such a frustrating team this season. I guess it's the inherent absurdity of investing a part of yourself in something so ultimately inconsequential & meaningless as the fortunes of an incomparably mercurial football team, but I tear my hair out when the side has some sublime talent in it, we're capable of producing a masterclass against City, we seem like we're gearing up for an impressive run of form at the business end of the season & then we go out & play like a bunch of hopeless amateurs & screw ourselves over in what was a great draw in the Champions League. We flatter to deceive with impressive performances against inferior sides & then revert to the naïve norm against well-drilled opposition that identify & exploit our weaknesses time & time again. We never, ever seem to learn & it does my fucking nut in.

The way that Wenger coaches his teams means that we're so susceptible to a drop in collective confidence after a bad result that I'm just waiting for the inevitable each & every time. The Arsenal cycle rolls ever on.

Does Ospina have to throw one into his own net to get dropped? Jesus.

And why is Nacho suddenly being benched when he's been our best defender all season? Hope it's just for fitness reasons because otherwise it's bizarre.

Can't wait for that spaz Lukaku to suddenly look like peak Batistuta like he does whenever he plays us.

I dunno what I feel about the Liverpool result. A win for City would have given us a fair bit of breathing room, but Liverpool winning has actually put us almost within touching distance of 2nd.

Probably a City win would have been better on balance, since we're more likely to fuck it up than come 2nd.

Really weird atmosphere at the Clock End.

I'm someone who doesn't really mind that it's comparatively quiet normally but this had the feeling of a midtable clash at the end of the season between two teams that were happy with their lot.

Is anyone going to Utd on Monday? I thought I had a thing for work but now I don't so I'm gonna give it a go I think.

Is it mad that I'd start Alexis on the bench for this one? He's been bollocks in the big away games really and looks pretty knackered full stop. Would rather start Fenton or Welbz personally, depending on if we're going for the jugular or for a replay.

Assume Giroud will keep his CF spot and Ramsey will come in for Rosicky.

I can see the argument for starting Welbeck. Plus there's the whole 'wanting to prove himself back at his old haunting ground' thing & you'd imagine he'd be desperate to play in this game. Alexis has looked tired recently but he's still the most explosive game-changer we have & his goal midweek may perk him up again.

Can't say I'm confident, but they are really shit at the moment & we have to break this spell they've had over us at some point.
