According to the BBC Arsenal are considering letting Podolski join Inter. When our squad is paper thin as it is, why on earth are we considering loaning out more first team players? I know he rarely starts, but he's a great impact sub. If we let him go do we then replace him with another rookie reserve player who isn't in the same league as a full German international with a pretty decent goal scoring record? Madness.

Arsenal are considering an improved offer from Inter Milan for German striker Lukas Podolski. Podolski, 29, has failed to start a Premier League match this season and missed the New Year's Day defeat at Southampton with a "tight groin". Gunners boss Arsene Wenger said: "The first proposal was farcical; after they came back a bit more serious. "We will see what happens. Inevitable? Not in the transfer market. It's very difficult to say, but we'll see."

I have no idea what's going on with Podolski. He's not good enough to start every game, but there probably isn't a better player in the league to sit on the bench for 70 minutes and then come on. He'd get the last twenty minutes of almost every game if I was in charge.

I think his talent and ability is right up there, but clearly Wenger doesn't think he can last 90 mins in the Premier League so he's reduced to cameo performances.

What I find frustrating is that when he is given a rare start he looks disinterested.

Would imagine it's Podolski's hefty salary that's pushing for us to get rid now rather than in the summer. Half a season without having to pay circa £100k/week to a guy who isn't playing at all is a significant amount of money, which we can then use to buy a world class CB and DM in the summer earn Stan some more interest.

I'm not necessarily saying we should keep him indefinitely, but how many points does he have to rescue to be worth keeping for at least the rest of the season?

With the squad as it is I'd say "very, very few"

Podolski is more known for banging in the fourth in a comfortable win over West Ham though, rather than getting decisive goals. I remember him getting the winner at home vs Stoke a couple of years ago. Beyond that I'm struggling for Podolski goals that weren't just padding.

Personally I'm not fussed, he has a crap work ethic and doesn't suit the system we play. When he's on big money and is set to fall even further down the pecking order as Fenton gets match fit, I think it makes sense to get rid.

I can see why we'd let Podolski go as he doesn't seem to be able to play as the lone striker in a front 3 and we are overloaded with players who can play either on the left or right in that front 3. Has everything to do with his wages I'm guessing.

I like Podolski, he seems like a great guy to have around & he's got a left foot like a fucking thunderbolt, but we're paying him 100k a week to contribute the sum total of fuck all. Wenger evidently lost all faith him in a long time ago & we won't miss him at all. Better to get him off the wage bill & let him go somewhere where he can actually utilise his talents. It's a shame it didn't really work out for him here, but it says it all when we're struggling to remember any significant contribution he's made in recent memory.

It's down to Wenger why he hasn't really made any serious contribution to the team. His fitness can't be that bad as it's still a young man and Germany always call him up.

Maybe Wenger doesn't like the fact that his focus isn't really on his football, if his social networking lark is anything to go by! I get the impression he'd rather be at his beloved Cologne than trying to be successful with Arsenal.

Letting poldi go is a strange one for me, Campbell seems to have some talent but hasn't been given much of a chance and when he has come on has at least put a shift in defensively but can we really afford to let lukas go with the squad we have?

It just seems strange letting a player of poldi's ability go in Jan. unless it's all so that we can free up the number 9 shirt in an attempt to try and get a world class striker.

Which when thinking about it sounds a very arsenal thing to do, buying a striker when everyone knows we need another defender and a holding midfielder.

I think it might be more down to the fact that as a winger he's got the workrate of Arshavin, and as a central striker he has all the off-the-ball movement and nous of Kaba Diawara. If the ball happens to fall to him around the penalty area he'll probably bury it, but he's showed time and time and time again that that is basically all he's got in his locker.
