its only been this season, we've just gone backwards and even if we do eek out 4th it will only be because everybody else is even worse.

I didn't used to think twice about dropping the silly money for our home tickets, now I can barely be bothered to sit thru a whole game on tv (or stream) - its not even the not winning, its the constant repetition of the same mistakes and problems on the pitch and with the squad, its all just frankly boring.

I can't even be fucked to go on Sunday. Gave my season tickets to a friend at work to use for the game and it took me a long time to find someone that wanted them. People used to snatch my hands off when I couldn't make it

I still think with a few players back we can actually be good enough to earn fourth place. I mean, the team on the pitch today wasn't ever likely to beat a good Southampton side, but with Ozil and Welbeck/Giroud and Ramsey and Arteta maybe, it could have done something.

Obviously the defence needs work since this is as good as it gets, but there's still stuff to play for.

I'm possibly living in Dreamland.

Sky Sports said an Arsenal fan managed to get into the technical area and yelled at Wenger. Did anyone watching a feed see what happened?

It said it was a Southampton fan on mine, but nothing much was shown.

Awful defending from all of the back five today. Shit midfield and attack as a result of our ludicrous injury list. Never likely to get anything against a good team.

Still think we'll be fine for third/fourth if we can improve the injury situation to key players. We're just lucky that everyone bar the top two is a bit shit.

About as good as you'd expect him to be at 19 in an injury ravaged side against a good team away from home, having never played the position before. So basically a bit shite.

I was wondering how he's do before the game from the perspective of, I wonder if he's been coached at all about what he should be doing in that role? Has Wenger or any of the others taught him anything specific? Has he been told to focus on certain skills and tactics to prepare him for the role?

I assume not based on what I saw today.

He definitely came in as a possibility to play there. I think he should be fine there in the future, but it needed to be made clear he was just basically an extra defender whilst we were drawing or losing.

I still don't think we're a better team than Man Utd or Southampton though. Man Utd clearly have real problems, but Falcao and Van Persie are get out of jail free cards that we don't have. Southampton are just a more functional unit, probably worse players than us but they work well and clearly bounce back from setbacks well too.

Good job we all agreed we're winning the Champion's Cup, really.

They'd be up there, but "our good players are injured" isn't an excuse any more. I don't care whether it is bad luck, unlikely, or something wrong in training now. We know it is going to happen and we need to have a squad good enough to deal with that. If this was Football Manager we're literally at the stage where we get the news saying "Transfer Window has opened" and immediately filter by "Transfer Listed" and make a bid for each player on there as we just need bodies. No, they might not be great but Coquelin was on loan at Charlton for a reason.

It's ridiculous.

Talking of injuries, the injured front six of Welbeck, Giroud, Ozil, Wilshere, Ramsey, Arteta would be among the best in the league, surely?

for a team that constantly finishes 4th they are of course amongst 'the best in the league' - the real question is how many of those players would the teams above you want (and by above you I don't mean Southampton, West Ham or Spurs at the moment, but the clubs who constantly finish top 3)

I'd argue that none of them would be looked at by City, Chelsea or Utd.

Welbeck - squad player and not good enough to be a starter, poor finisher and Emile Heskey type no goals striker

Giroud - he's won me round and is a good solid player, not a starter though for a team that will win a title

Ozil - undoubtedly class but not proven to be consistent, and all his Spanish assist record proved is that passing to Ronaldo anywhere in the attacking third often results in a goal

Wilshire - Scholes got him right, not improved at all beyond potential and massively injury prone

Ramsey - possibly the pick of the bunch but needs to prove that run last year wasn't a flash in the pan

Arteta - solid but too old and again not a starter for a team that will win a title

It depends on how you look at it. I think Giroud will always score goals and Welbeck is going to grab a couple here and there so they are clearly missed if they are not available. I'm still convinced Ramsey & Wilshere can't play together in the way Wenger sets the team up so even if they are both fit Wenger has a problem. Playing Ramsey or Wilshere out wide is ridiculous so you have find a way to play them both. It would seem that Roy Hodgson worked out how to use Wilshere to his full potential by playing him deeper, so maybe Wenger should give that a go and let Ramsey play his natural game instead of handicapping him to make room for Jack.

I'm still confused about Ozil as he was truly awful all season until his injury. When fit I hope he is determined enough to prove all the doubters wrong but even if Ozil starts playing well and Wenger has a system that can accommodate all our attacking players it won't count for anything unless that defence gets fixed.

The fact we changed formation to put Ozil out of his natural position, moving him to the wing where he had to run more when he was already knackered is the kind of blue sky thinking that gets us to where we are today.

I agree with most of that although I have been won over by Welbeck. Yes, he's not a great finisher but he will score goals and I think he was an absolute steal for £16m.

I know a lot of people got upset with what Scholes said, but he was right. I think Jack is just one of those players who's going to have a few months in the team, then a few months out injured on a regular basis, as we've seen throughout his career. Didn't he even miss a whole season? With that kind of injury track record he will never be able to push on at this rate. It's unfortunate.

Yes, you can't play him out on the wing but he wasn't doing the business in the centre and the depth of the squad dictated he had to play out there as no one else could.

Was it the Villa game where he took the game by the scruff of the neck and put in a cracking performance after some really fierce criticism? We all know he can do it when he feels like it, so hopefully we will see that side of him when he's fit.

New transfer window target: Someone called Wilshire, just for the excellent levels of confusion that'd cause.

The Villa game when he played in his position?

But we got rid of the (FM) AMC position entirely. It wasn't that he wasn't holding it down, it was removed for literally no reason at all.
