Arsenal

On paper, this is a game Arsenal lose nine times out of ten as well. We're weak in midfield, it's an Allardyce team with Carroll as the target man, Arsenal's defence is Arsenal's defence. I honestly wasn't expecting a damn thing out of this game.

With Ozil back very soon (and hopefully maybe good), Walcott almost there, Ramsey almost there, Arteta close and our defence now back to full strength (such as it is), we could have a pretty decent second half of the season. Especially with an astute signing. Aside from Wilshere we'll be only Diaby away from full strength soon, barring further shite.

Yeah, with the injured players coming back and hopefully 1 or 2 quality additions could allow us to have a really decent run from January onwards. I just hope Ozil comes back as the player he was when he first signed for us as we really do need him at the top of his game. Ramsey was starting to look like the Ramsey of last season before his latest knock so it's looking promising.

Of course we are Arsenal so we are bound to lose a few more players to lengthy injuries. It always happens doesn't it!

since when have returning injured players ever coincided in January with signings - he'll do the usual shit of declaring them all to be like new signings, say he can't play them all, sign nobody, then they'll all be out with unspecified muscle strains for a few weeks in Feb again.

Wenger has already started with Ozil is a new signing stuff, so I'm expecting maybe one cut price Center Back in January and not much else.

Having said all that we are now in 4th and into the Champions League knock out stages, all while playing fairly badly and with half the team out injured.

It feels like he's being cautious because he hasn't played the last couple of games, but that really only represents a period of three days and bringing him in against Southampton is still rushing somewhat. Needs must, though, I guess.

Walcott and Sanchez between them should really be able to score against Southampton if Welbeck isn't around, but it does depend much on Walcott's fitness.

I'm with Wenger on this one. The financial fair play system is just a nonsense when Man City can use one of the a string of clubs they own to 'loan' them a player.

I firmly believe that loan signings should be completely banned in the Premier League and all top tiers in Europe. It would also stop clubs stockpiling players to stop rivals signing them and it would stop all clubs abusing the system. There's more than enough money going around to make loans a thing of the past.

There really isn't, particularly in some of the other top tiers like Spain and Italy. The top clubs wouldn't stop stockpiling players, they would just play a lot less. Making judgements on an entire system because of one player is ridiculous, especially when you combine it with another system, FFP, that has been designed to extract maximum benefit for clubs like Arsenal. That's the system that needs a massive overhaul, not loans. For clubs like Everton, who work on a tight budget, it allows them to bring players in without a large upfront cost. In Spain some of the smaller clubs wouldn't be able to field teams without the loan system.

The loan system allows Everton to bring in players they can't afford so they use the system and partnerships they have with the likes of Barcelona to bring players in for a short term fix. This should not be allowed! If you can't afford a player then too bad. It actually cheats the fans as good money goes on the wages of a player that doesn't belong to them. It's like paying rent on a flat - it's dead money.

There's been talk of the loan system being reviewed and it can't come soon enough. I don't see an issue with players being loaned to lower division clubs and of course perhaps u-21 players can be loaned as it's vital for their development. It basically needs to be reviewed and fixed so clubs can stop taking advantage of the system.

Szczesny, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs, Coquelin, Chambers, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cazorla, Rosicky, Alexis

Alexis up front? Chambers midfield? No Flamini or Podolski. This is going to be interesting.

Is there truth in the rumour that Podolski stormed out of training in a huff, then?

commentator said earlier he'd been asking Szczesny before game what had he improved on in 2014 - think the correct answer to that question is 'nothing'

I love that you had to copy Szczesny from somewhere else. He's been at the club for fucking YEARS and still no one can spell his name.

And also still he's shit. Cech's got a decent four years left in him, at least, we'd be stupid not to at least try.

Nah his distribution is good. Just still prone to spazzing out.

no it isn't - he's been told that good keepers do quick distribution and in his brainless way frequently throws the ball to players who aren't looking or closely marked.

I had such high hopes for him, and he's still young in keeper terms, but he just seems a bit thick and prone to getting bored - he looks like a frustrated outfield player who wants to see action

and no still not a got a clue where all the z's go in his name

had enough of Szez, he's a liability

I had hoped after a reasonable season last year that he might kick on, but no. He doesn't even show potential which is the worrying thing, he just shows on a regular basis how fucking useless he is.

I think out of all the first choice keepers in the division he's probably in the bottom 4 or 5. Fucking awful.

Ospina is a pretty good goalkeeper to be fair, it's not like we didn't buy an alternative.

The thing about finishing fourth every year is that we've been the fourth best team every year. This year we're, um, not.

Arsenals defending wasn't perfect last season but it was far far better than the performances so far this season, I know injuries have been an issue but there doesn't seem to be any plan whatsoever
