I do think the time has come to sign English players but who the fuck can you buy right now?

Woodgate, I guess. And then, erm..

Spot on. If fat boy Lampard wants so much money how much would it cost to actually get someone who is good! :)

I'd be quite happy with Woodgate, even though some players are just injury prone and I'm afraid he is one of them, but there's no doubt he's a quality player.

I'd be more than happy with Eto'o, Babel and/or Ribery wouldn't be bad either.

As we are on the subject, I'd like Buffon as well than you vey much.

Woodgate - best English centre back bar none. Truly brilliant at times. Are his injuries behind him?

Eto'o - 50/50 whether he'd get on with Henry, let alone forge a partnership with him. Very good though and a finisher.

Babel - only heard good things, looks mustard when I've seen him. Recently signed a new deal at Ajax.

Ribery - not sure myself but obv. really well regarded. Would play for Wenger.

Buffon - yes please.

All good shouts there, Luckster.

The deal Babel signed at Ajax might just be so his club can gat a half decent fee for him, because at the end of the day his contract isn't worth much if Arsenal or someone comes in for him and he wants to leave.

Torres signed a new deal with his club last summer, but what are the odds that he leaves this summer for biggish money?

That's about the only bit of loyalty left in football nowadys.

Yes.

Until he comes to us.

Brilliant  .

Yeah, that occurred to me too.

Hmm, there seems to be more noise about Ribery again. Sky reports that we have negotiated first option on him with prices of £17m being mentioned.

Too high, surely. Plus if we get a winger I think we must lose Fred, Hleb or Rosicky. Walcott is obv. not going anywhere.

Bye, Fred.

Doesn't seem right and there is no official qoute or anything...but who knows? Freddie would seem to be the obvious exit man.

Going back to british...what happened with all the Gareth Bale speculation?

In my opinion, Gael Clichy happened. I think he's been tremendous this season and is right up there with Cole. And of course Traore in reserve looks a great prospect. Bale would be nice but not for the money he'd have to fetch.

It's not a very good reason for splashing £8m on him, though :) .

I don't think he's a natural goalscorer. He needs a partner really. I, and 99% of the Emirates crowd, think he's been brilliant this season. Remember he's only young. I think he's aces.

You lot need to lay off Baptista, Adebayor was absolutely shit when he signed and this season he is a different player. RVP was a hot headed idiot and now he's fast becoming a top top player. GIVE BAPTISTA TIME!!!!!

He's shown more than enough to warrent 8mil. I saw video's of Adebayor when we signed him and he looked woeful and he cost 7mil.

Ever since Wenger mentioned the other day about bringing in two 'top' players this summer - it's got me trawling the net for info/rumors.

Some of the names listed below have been connected to Arsenal over the past couple of months. Some are a little dated, out of our price range and probably just agents peddling their players but interesting nevertheless.

Rumoured Transfers:

Goalkeepers

Artur Boruc (Celtic, £?, age 27)

Sebastien Frey (Fiorentina, £?, age 26)

Craig Gordon (Hearts, £2.5m, age 24)

Scott Carson (Liverpool, £5m, age 22)

Igor Akinfeev (CSKA Moscow, £?, age 20)

Defenders

Jonathan Woodgate (Real Madrid, £6m, age 27)

Éric Abidal (Lyon, £?, age 27)

Curtis Davies (WBA, £?, age 22)

Midfielders

Mahamadou Diarra (Real Madrid, £?, age 25)

Franck Ribéry (Marseille, £17m, age 23)

Puerta (Sevilla, £?, age 23)

Ahmed Barusso (Rimini, £?, age 22)

Forwards

Samuel Eto'o (Barcelona, £20m, age 26)

Andrew Johnson (Everton, £12m, age 26)

Robinho (R.Madrid, £12m, age 23)

Klaas Jan Huntelaar (Ajax, £?, age 23)

Fernando Torres (Atletico Madrid, £?, age 22)

Ryan Babel (Ajax Amsterdam, £6m, age 20)

The Kidz (Under 20)

Defenders

Micah Richards (Manchester City, £?, age 18)

Gareth Bale (Southampton, £?, age 17)

Ondrej Mazuch (FC Brno, £1.5m, age 17)

Midfielders

Nuri Sahin (Borussia Dortmund, £?, age 19)

John Bostock (Crystal Palace, £?, age 15)

Morgan Schneiderlin (RC Strasbourg, £?, age 17)

Forwards

Gilles Sunu (Chateauroux, £?, age 16)

Personally, I'd love it if Wenger signed a new keeper, a decent centreback (sorry Senderos!) and that forever elusive 'fox in the box' (or just give Bendtner a go?!).

If we can offload: Jens Lehmann (Villareal), Fredrik Ljungberg, Julio Baptista (if he fails to perform in the last few games), Jeremie Aliadiere (Sunderland?), Antonio Reyes (Sevilla / R.Madrid), Gilberto (God forbid! - Juventus), in the summer, it'll free up some funds (and space) for 3-5 new players.

Looks like Ashley Cole came out the better person between Gallas and Cole, one cup in the bag and still in the hunt for the other three Ashley Cole must be laughing.

:)

Yeah I was laughing when I saw those lottery pictures he did with his missus. Fucking hilarious!

After all the talk of missing bergkamp and finding a replacement for him i was suprised that no one came up with a name of a successor. Personally i feel we already have a "link man" and his name is Rosicky. Wenger should be playing him in the hole behind a striker, when Arsenal play well its usually because Rosicky is pulling all the strings. We need a left winger so that Rosicky can give us that bit of spark

The archetypal Arsenal game.

Certainly was. Have some good posession, pass it around a lot (some would say too much) and make arses of ourselves in front of goal.

What a bummer.

Edit: Oh well, I shouldn't be so miserable. The commentator stated before the game that we're 2 positions and 11 points better off than at that point last year. Took me by surprise if that's true.

Baptista was awful. I'm sure in more open games in Spain his first touch wouldn't be such as problem, but in bum tight Premiership matches it is polarised to make it look embarrassing. Aliadiere does everything right, but can't finish for toffee. Personally after watching Bendtner this morning, I'm not convinced he is the great white hope we have all been looking for.
