While I was very far from excited (that's being nice about it) at the news that we were in for Welbeck and then that we'd actually signed him, the closer it's getting to his debut for us I'm finding that I'm really looking forward to it and I can hardly wait.

Apart from Sturridge who didn't set the world alight at Chelsea & City but then came good at Liverpool, I'm struggling to come up with any players that didn't look the part but then exploded after a move.

Not that it matters much but it would help me to convince myself that buying Welbeck is a masterstroke and he'll turn into a world beater at Arsenal.

Um... Thierry Henry?

In fairness to Sturridge, he was stuck out on the wing at Chelsea (like Wellbeck has been at Man Utd), but had looked good at times, especially during his loan at Bolton. He's a very different player though, much more of a single-minded goal-machine and poacher, and while I think he may be a better player than Wellbeck at the moment, I think Wellbeck is probably a much better fit for Arsenal (and quite possibly England).

The worst thing with Santi is that they actually (still) say Carzola and Carzorla. Irritates the hell out of me.

Another (unrelated) thing I've just remembered; was wandering home yesterday and saw someone in the purple and black away kit from a few years ago with '11, A.Santos' on the back.

That was a bit of a surprise.

Yes, to both of the last two posts.

Chambers has been very good so far, but we still really needed another defender in the wiindow. We're two defensive injuries from a complete nightmare scenario; I genuinely can't think of anyone (bar perhaps Bellerin) past Kos, Mertesacker, Debuchy, Gibbs, Monreal and Chambers who can/I would want to play in defence for us, even including the other youngsters.

I still really hope we make a signing or two in January, just to add squad depth in the defensive areas. It says something when your football club is linked with a 38-year-old out-of-contract Colombian defender and you actually half want it to be true.

Not as bad as Carzorla I suppose.

I remember some people in here were having a few problems with his name to start with.

Poor old Daley still calls him Carzola to this day.

Chambers wins our Player of the month.

About right I'd say.

Him, Monreal and Debuchy were probably the best three players. Alexis and Wilshere probably the best attacking performers.

Ramsey has limped off injured tonight too. :/

Özil is apparently in full training though so he should be ok. Suspect if Ramsey doesn't make it then we'll start Alexis regardless of tiredness, otherwise we're back to the issue of having no runners. Ox available off the bench.

Hardly a warm welcome. Sounds like he didn't even have the final say which I find hard to believe.

Strange comments.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says he would not have signed striker Danny Welbeck on transfer deadline day had he been in the country.

Wenger said: "If I'd stayed at home he wouldn't be here now."

He refused to elaborate on that but added he initially wanted Welbeck on loan with an option to buy.

However, Wenger said he was "happy" to make the transfer permanent - though he would not reveal whether Welbeck will start against Manchester City on Saturday.

"I cannot tell you if Welbeck will start but it's a possibility. I have to assess the squad," said the Frenchman.

Read the full transcript Lucky. What he actually said was:

"Of deadline day – and the criticism of his trip to Rome – “Wenger said: “If I had not travelled that day, Welbeck would not be here. The coincidence made it. If I stayed in my home, Welbeck would not be here. I will tell you that story one day. That is the truth. We are in 2014, you can always be in touch.” When he was pressed on what he meant, Wenger added: “The advantage of that day was I got up at 6am and was available the whole day.”

Meaning that if he wasn't up so early to go to Rome he would not have been able to get involved in saying "let's get Welbeck from Utd now that they don't want him."

Makes for much more amiable reading when not twisted to fuck by the twatty press.

He just means it only happened because he was up very early for his flight and got the ball rolling.

Of course that massive nonce from Le Grove is using it as evidence to peddle his terrible conspiracy theory, but that's standard I guess.

Le Grove is the biggest Debbie Downer I've seen on Twitter and that's saying something...
