Welbz is better than Remy. Not good enough to challenge the big boys but better than no one I guess.

Also they're not getting Falcao for £6m, that's the fee without his absolutely vast wages!

Pretty shit transfer window tbh, considering how much money we have and how obviously we needed a new DM and CF.

Fair enough I guess, but if he gets them into the Champion's League at our expense, who's going to look like idiots at the end of the season?

There are people on twitter claiming that Welbeck is a £6m loan deal. I actually can't stop laughing

Welbeck is a good player, and a very good signing for you guys if indeed it does happen. He'll have a chance to play through the middle as the main striker while Giroud is out, something he rarely got to do at United, and I can see him doing well. When Giroud comes back you'll have the option of playing him on the wing.

I mean, he's got to be better there than Ozil, right? ;)

Honestly don't think Bony gets us any closer to winning the league than Welbeck does tbh. Neither is good enough to make the difference up on City/Chelsea's front lines, we needed someone really great. Just gotta hope Alexis can transition to a really top striker I guess?

I disagree, we've seen Wellbeck in a decent Utd team and for England at supposedly a top level - and he's not really ever been that great.

Bony on the other hand scored a shitload of goals for a pretty average Swansea last year and gives us a muscular presence we sometimes lack added to somebody who can clearly finish.

I'd be all over Bony.

Wellbeck is better than nothing I suppose but you have to feel that Man U wouldn't have done the deal if they thought it would strengthen us that much.

It's all a bit embarrassing if we're honest isn't it?

Business as usual then?

If he does come then I hope he does a job for us, obviously, but yes it's embarrassing that Man United have steamed in & got one of the world's top strikers & we've possibly ended up with their reject. Would be fucking hilarious if Welbeck did a Sturridge & started banging them in & Falcao was crocked again though. We can but dream.

Any sign of a central defender yet?

I don't get why we are fanning around with Wellbeck or the latest twitter frenzy of Huntelaar when Bony has a £20m release clause and is sat there waiting to be picked up.

Welbeck's going to cost £18m if it happens.

I can't actually see it, really, guy on Five Live at the moment is not exactly making it sound like Arsenal are in pole position.

this is not nearly as unlikely as you think.

This is what I'm thinking. And no, I'm not just trying to look on the bright side. I actually quite like him as a player; he's big, quick, pretty strong, works hard, is a good team player, and will hopefully be making the kind of runs that Cazorla and Ozil could do with more of in front of them. He's not what I was hoping for at the start of the window, but with a decent run in the team (upfront) he could actually potentially be really good for us.

I'm genuinely kind of hoping this comes off, to be honest, and would probably actually rather get him over Huntelaar, or maybe even Bony.

But yeah, feel free to save this post for when he's shit.

I'd rather muddle through with Sanchez, Theo, Sanogo, Campbell & Podolski than get Wellbeck in.

If we're gonna get a proper striker like Bony then great. Not exactly top top drawer but a very good no.9 who could do very well with the likes of Ozil, Sanchez, Theo, Cazorla and the Ox supplying the amo.

Cavani would be superb but not very likely is it?

Quite surprised (I know) that we haven't brought a CB in.

Every single transfer window. Every one. Next time round we'll still be expecting all the gaping chasms in our squad to be plugged but no. It won't happen, it never will. We need a CB, a DFM and a top drawer striker. It doesn't take a genius to see that. We're getting mugged off again. It's like failure on the Club's own terms is fine but if we dare to succeed and it doesn't work.. well, they're scared to try.

For what it's worth, I don't think we'll get Wellbeck and if we did I'd be happy. I think he'd benefit loads from getting regular football, he's decent on the wing if Podolski is going. I'm fine with it. I'd rather we spent £18m on him than £55m on Falcao, anyway.

I'm on holiday and am struggling for internet. Just been scrolling through all the madness. Falcao is on silly money so glad we haven't gone for him. Can't say I'm welbecks biggest fan but he is clearly better than sanogo which granted isn't very hard. We all know we have the money to spend and I am as frustrated as the rest of you. Just dunno why it always has to be the same thing year in year out. Can't agree fees that we deem acceptable for players. If we really want them just fucking spend the extra and get em!
