Rather he went there than City though, they still have no defence and midfield!

They have links with Mendes and have dealt with him for years, whereas we don't get involved with him in general for whatever reason. If it's a loan then we should have been in there really, but potentially there could be issues with his salary being like £100k/week more than anyone else at the club! We can't afford for that to have a knock on effect on the wage bill.

The problem with our defenders in the current system is that none of them are comfortable enough on the ball to bring it out and make a pass. Against Burnley, they were just pumping long balls bypassing the midfield.

Rojo and Blind are more familiar with the 3-5-2 system LVG is trying to employ, so I'm hoping we'll start seeing an improvement sooner rather than later.

I ain't getting annoyed about Falcao till the proper details of the deal emerge. It could easily be a veeeeery high cost, high risk move and if he's on Rooney-esque wages, we simply can't pay somebody that much without it having undesirable wider implications for our wage structure.

Wage bill would be a lot lower if we'd shifted Podolski, mind. :(

That's just crazy if true. Even if you go with the theory that Sanchez was always intended to play up front eventually, going into a season with just 2 proper central defenders is suicidal. It's like Arsene is only interested in winning something if he can do it against all the odds, by overcoming a massive self-imposed handicap.

Absolutely no excuse whatsoever to not at the very fucking least bring in a backup central defender. Ornstein is rarely wrong so I'm speechless if that turns out to be true. We're relying on the evidently nowhere near ready Sanogo & the risky gamble of Alexis up front, the harebrained Flamini to anchor the midfield & a 19yo who's played two dozen games at this level as backup in central defence. Shocking to be in this position when every man & his dog has known all summer where we've needed strengthening. Maybe we'll pull something out of the bag at the last minute but I'm not holding my breath.

Utterly insane to not bring in a CB at least. We have four senior defenders plus a couple of promising kids, to cover four positions over a 50 game season.

Don't understand buying big money 'luxury' players like Ozil and Alexis when we have such clear quality deficiencies at CF and DM, and a numbers problem in defence.

It can't be true. We must at least be trying.

Can't be trying very hard if Wenger has fucked off to Italy for some nonsense charity game - unless he has told the club who he wants and has full confidence that the club will wrap up those deals before the deadline.
If we don't bring in at least a top class forward & cover for central defence then that's inexcusable. We could actually have a weaker squad than yesterday if the Campbell/Benfica rumours are true.

Ozil is out of the Germany game with his ankle injury. Totally psyched for him to have a scan tomorrow which reveals three fractures and no remaining ligaments, but at least we've still got that £100k/week fraud Podolski who can come in and do somehow-even-worse defensive work in Mesut's new position on the left wing.:(

This would all be a lot more palatable if the players we've already got weren't playing almost to a man like complete chumps.

Same old story by the looks of it, so near yet so far. Don't see how we can hope for more than fourth with this squad, and unless we start gelling better as a unit sharpish then even that seems shaky.

I've defended the man for years now, always trusting in the long-term vision for the club & realising that he'd done a remarkable job in keeping our heads above water under restrictive financial constraints in a league that had become flooded with oil money. But we all know that the money's there now & there are no more excuses. There just aren't. It's stubbornness & sheer stupidity to leave us in this position now. What the fuck is he thinking?

This squad is so close to being a league-winning squad, it's absolutely amazing that Wenger is just going to say "fuck it" and write the season off because he's too stubborn to admit that Sanogo is shit. It's just insane.

How long does he expect players like Ozil to stay around when we're showing this kind of lack of ambition? And what the fuck's the point of spending £37m on Sanchez if you don't want to go the whole way to try and win the league?
