Still a lot of work to do. Need to scrap this 4-1-4-1 shite and get ozil in his preferred position. Dunno if we will sign players now but in my eyes winger should either give Campbell game time or get rid. He needs to trust the squad. On that note, where is Rosicky?

Jay-sus...

Slept in and got up at 6.30am and saw the game at 87 mins gone to find we are a man down and defending a 1-0 lead. First thing my bleary eyes saw was Ba nearly get over the back of Mertesacker which sent my heart rate through the roof.

From the highlights on the replay, apart from Flamini failing to clear and then Ba shooting the side netting, they didn't have many shots on target?

We, on the other hand seemed to blow a few good ones. That doesn't worry me so much because we were creating chances and on another day, those chances will go in. We didn't do much of that against Everton until the last 15 minutes.

Champions League football, boys!

Gotta be true if his agent said it! This is a guy Wenger declined at his most skint, in favour of Bendtner.

Anyway fairly horrid performance again but Alexis was much more encouraging at No9. Bit isolated at times still and I just don't like this formation one little bit.

Wilshere had another decent game.

Agreed that this 4-1-4-1 formation hasn't worked at all so far this season - Ozil had a poor game out on the left. On the other hand thought that Wilshere had a great game, his turn and run midway through the second half was tremendous. Cazorla also put in a great shift, winning the ball back all over the pitch, which is quite unlike him.

All in all, a(nother) rusty performance but at least we're through into the group stages. There were at least some signs that some of our key players are coming into form. Fingers crossed it continues.

He's probably just using "Arsenal's interest" to leverage a big medium small some-money move to Huddersfield.

:hmm:

Even we'd be disappointed at getting Zigic. And that's taking James Vaughan's 'honorary Arsenal player' injury record into account.

Ozil clearly isn't fit at all, which makes moving him wide even stranger to me, when he then has to try and put in more of a defensive shift (which he's pretty negligent with at the best of times). Furthermore, the understanding between Ramsey & Wilshere is going to take a fair bit of work as things stand; look at average positions vs Palace/Everton and they're occupying the exact same spaces at the moment. Add that to Ozil/Ox/Cazorla all moving centrally and it's no wonder we're struggling for attacking chemistry.

Hopefully the 4-1-4-1 is just a temporary thing until Ozil gets some sharpness and Fenton is back, as I don't really see how Fenton fits into that formation.

Has anyone seen how Giroud broke his leg?

It looked really weird. The ball hit him on the leg but it surely can't have broken it. The Everton player may have skimmed his ankle as he swung his foot to kick the ball but contact can only have been minimal.

I know footballers nowadays are like finely tuned and delicate machines but to actually break his leg from what looked like nothing is a funny one.

Maybe someone can find footage of it?

Ozil is probably not 100% fit and isn't playing in his best position. More than that he still looks like he's not interested. £42m looks like a bad joke at the moment, he doesn't look half of that. The commentator last night recalled how Ozil said his German roots is where he gets his graft from, I nearly choked on my apple puff.

I think he's more or less run out of good will now. Get fit and get performing. There was a moment when Sanchez broke down the right, rode some challenges, lost the ball, won it back and won a free kick. That might not be Ozil's game but he's the polar opposite. He shirks tackles and all the while you're not on top form that goes down like a shit sandwich.

At the moment I simply can't see him being a success. Someone convince me.

This was the Sanchez moment-was purring like a kitten when. He did this:

As for Özil:

Just because.

Fuck me, he's not even two weeks off his sun lounger yet! Ridiculously harsh to criticise him for fitness when he was quite rightly given an extended break by the club and has had no pre-season to speak of.

When the team clicks, either in this formation or the old one, he'll be alright. It's no use hoping for him to be like Alexis, who is probably the hardest working forward I can think of. He'll never be like that, but I don't see why he needs to be. He's hardly the only attacking player around who's defensively fairly hopeless.

I don't approve of Ozil being anywhere other than in the middle of their half of the pitch. If he wants to have a wander around the rest of the pitch, he can take a stadium tour for all I'm concerned. I don't want him to work, or chase. Just stand there and be AMAZE plz.

I was just sitting here already a little downbeat thinking about how I was a little worried about our (admittedly nascent) season, what with and our relatively poor performances thus far, the areas in which we're lacking strength and/or depth in the squad, and Giroud's injury, and then I read this...

Poor old Manuel. :(
