Yeah I'm pretty non plussed. One look at our midfield tells you why Wenger passed on him.

Ramsey is class. Arteta is past it, more or less. Rosicky, love him but ditto. Flamini a liability. Diaby can't put two games together. Cazorla is inconsistent and pretty immobile. Wilshere is nowhere near, let's be honest. Ozil is the great hope but I dare you to put your mortgage on him being a success. He might do it, he might not.

I'm not saying Fabregas would be the best player at the club but he'd be in the top one.

From a neutral I cannot wait to watch an on form Arsenal playing later with season with Walcott and Alexis hopefully getting game time together both on the wings and preferably an interchanging midfield of Ozil-Ox-Ramsey

Arsenals depth is amazing right now.

Our depth is pretty damn good in midfield (with the usual caveat regarding injuries), going forward especially, but we could still use a bit more depth just about everywhere else. On our day, and with a full strength team, we should be a match for just about anyone, but one or two of the wrong players (in the wrong positions) go down and we could still have a real problem.

On that note; Gibbs is out for three weeks after tweaking his hammy against Palace.

Does anyone know if the game tonight is being shown on tv? I'd assumed it would be, but if it is it seems to be well hidden if it is...

I cannot say I'm not bothered by Cesc's performance for Chelsea, Ramsey aside (who's a different kind of player) he is better than our current crop of players in that position. People are right though it's not really the weak point in the side right now. I'm more shocked we haven't bought in another striker and have Sanago as 2nd choice forward.

Mildly nervous about tonight. Hoping for a good result though; we should be strong enough to get a result and put ourselves in a good position for the second leg.

Also - no (more) injuries please.

My mistake. Still, how has he been a let down? I wouldn't agree with that assessment either. Quality young player who has come through the ranks as a kid. Hardly a let down that... Not like he came in for £25-40m and flopped.

Two good saves from Ba to keep it 0-0. Tough going out there.

I'd call them more one desperate scramble having been caught asleep and a flying one for the cameras that was straight at him.

Besiktas still in pre-season so hoping they've blown their wad early and we've seen their best now.

I would've thought once Sanchez has settled, he'll be competing for the central role with Giroud?

WIlshere for me looks like the long-term replacement for Arteta in your midfield. He seems to think he has to drive forward and get stuck in, but I think he would be better off trying to affect the game from its periphery. He does not have the frame or the drive of someone like Ramsey to play box-to-box, but he has outstanding technical ability (quite a class above any other active English midfielder) and a great understand of the game for a player at his age.

Christ this is a scrappy match - I don't think we've been able to string together more than about 5 passes together all night.

Besiktas (and their fans) have really made it impossible for us to settle. Given the circumstances, 0-0 wouldn't be a bad result to take back to London

Ramsey has been terrible last two games, that just caps it off really. Can we play Santi/Alexis at 10 and bring Ox into the side please? This 4-3-3 is horrible with these players. Giroud not mobile enough, Santi coming inside too much so middle gets bunged up. Just doesn't work.
