Didn't exactly tear up the Greek Superleague, 8 goals in 25 appearances playing for Olympiakos, they who've won the title 16 of the last 17 years. He managed one goal in the Champions League, a peach against ManU. Great performance tonight though.

I think it's probably worth remembering that Blinky had something of an emotional World Cup last night and was forced into re-living the worst moments of Arsenal last season...

Whilst I stand by my points, the Spain game was one of the worst things I've every experienced on an International level: I guess 6 years of laughing at everyone else and being able to say "lol at 80% possession" whilst 'We' hoover up International trophies had to reach a summit, I wasn't quite expecting to have to eat so much hubris at the table of Van Fucking Persie and Divey Robben. The shit-hounds.

Still, Campbell looked alright didn't he? Although he totally reinforces my point: for the first game of next season we'll have Jenks as right back, Martinez as second choice keeper and Campbell & Sanogo on the bench as options for Giroud.

Today's one is Vermaelen. Bit of an odd one if true, not really sure he improves them in any way. Mind you I guess Jones and Smalling are always injured so they do need at least one CB. Still though...Vermaelen?

Depends how much they're offering I guess, if it's true.

I suspect Wenger was a bit more tactful than that article is implying!

Anyways I'm not surprised Vermaelen wants to leave, and if he wants to stay in England then fair enough. He's behaved very professionally since being benched and I don't think he's a good enough player for us to worry about selling to Utd essentially for PR reasons. Yeah some people will try and turn it into "Arsenal selling ANOTHER captain to their rivals", but let's not kid ourselves - he's been largely below par for a long time and is unlikely to ever be more than 3rd choice for a top club.

I think it's probably similar to when Clichy went to City really; his time here was just done and no one was especially sad to see him go. Personally I've got no qualms with selling him to Utd, but ideally I think we should wait until his replacement is already signed.

That's my only issue, if he is sold it leaves us with Jenkinson, Koscielny, Mertesacker and Gibbs (as Atletico Bilboa are apparently chasing Nacho) and that's it for our entire defence and just piles on the number of positions we need to fill even further

No chance we let Nacho leave this summer imo. Hell we could easily decline Vermaelen leaving too, it depends how comfortable Wenger is with having to get in *another* player on top of what he wants already, and we know how much he values squad stability. It wouldn't be that surprising if we got him to see out his contract, especially if no one is offering much money for him.

I'd take more or less any price for him. He's not terrible, but it's just been A Series of Unfortunate Events and it'd be better for all concerned if he moved on I think. I'd rather it was abroad, but I don't mind if it's to Man Utd if that's where he'd prefer to go.

Are these actual quotes we're hearing from Cazorla? Some of the papers are printing some pretty daft stuff supposedly from him presently. If they're true then he's a bit out of order after just signing a new contract!?

I'd presume its just the usual lost in translation, journalist bs..

Apparently he didn't sign a new contract, we just paid him more which allowed us to extend his current one without him being involved in the decision. He didn't look massively happy last season and he's got a lot of competition for a place, so I'd not be too surprised if there was some truth to it. It'll be a shame if he goes though.

If that's right, then it implies that he didn't agree to a new deal and/or staying longer. In essence, he didn't extend his contract (by mutual agreement), Arsenal just did it, potentially without his (further) consent or agreement (or even knowledge).

If he's not happy, then it's possible that that wouldn't have improved his mood any either. In fairness though, I don't know what he's (supposed to have) said to the press, beyond some generic stuff about Atletico's rumoured interest.
