He obviously feels he can take these players forward. When his contract runs out and he moves on, Ramsey, Wilshere, Gibbs etc will be approaching their peak years so it could be a good time to change over.

There's also an issue that no obvious candidate to replace him is currently available. That may well have had a bearing on things too.

Moyes.

I don't know, there's clearly more to come from the current squad, but that's basically irrelevant when other teams can just buy the best of the rest of Europe. He's betting on FFP and I wouldn't put much stock in that as it stands.

I think FFP will work to an extent. The clubs are mostly taking it seriously, although they will try and find loopholes and so on. If it does fail and PSG etc are allowed to keep spending far beyond their means then it's not likely any manager will be able to overturn that for Arsenal.

That's what I mean, if FFP doesn't work then he's going to find it difficult to go out on a high as he could now. As I say, I don't mind from an Arsenal point of view as I certainly can't suggest anyone better, I just think for him personally it's the wrong choice.

I reckon if Klopp, Ancelotti, Guardiola or whoever were available this summer, he'd have gone. But he's not going to want any old nonce taking over.

It's like when Fergie was going to retire until he found out they were getting Sven in to replace him and then he was like "Fuck that, I'm staying".

I think I'd miss Wenger more than anyone in the Prem when he goes. I love seeing him on French tv during tournaments too. It's so weird seeing him actually speak French!

Can't see him wanting to go to Utd. City would make more sense. He's just a bit too direct for Barca's style. Silva would suit them far better tbh (not that I'm not implying there will be a swap).

I don't think we'd necessarily have to pay £30m anyway because of the clauses. But I'd still be surprised if he left Barca.

Difficult situation, I don't know if we could turn down Fabregas. I know why we would or should but still. Given the choice I'd take him over Ozil, I think. I reckon you could 'build a team' around Cesc but I can't see Ozil ever stepping up to the plate like that, I think he'll always be a luxury player.

It depends where he wants to play. He'd be amazing in Arteta's role and he's not going to be around for long, but if he has to play behind the striker it's a bit messy. Although it'd make a massive difference if Wilshere has it in his plans to Grow Up at any point and could be trusted more defensively.

With my dispassionate brain on it'd be a mental signing. But fuck it, bring him back. Ramsey and Fabregas with Ozil in front of them? Fucking hell.

I also really, really want to see Cazorla sneaking up behind Fabregas and putting an Arsenal shirt on him at some point during the world cup.

Quote of the Year, right there.

This is what he really said.

Marca: Did you see yourself leaving Madrid at any moment?”

Angel Di Maria: “They (the media) say a lot of things and sometimes you think too much about them and it hurts when you are giving your all for the club. Things come out like ‘he’s going to Tottenham,’ or ‘he’s staying.’ These are difficult times for a player. It’s difficult to detach yourself (from the speculation). I was calm as I knew I wanted to continue with Madrid.”

I think Cesc is better than Ozil at some things and not so good at others, but ultimately they're both up there with the best No10s in the world when they're on song. Fitting them into the same XI is tricky and might not work; the only way you can really do it without sacrificing too much from either of them is to put Ozil in Cazorla's position. It's perhaps not ideal, but I think it's a better option than playing Cesc deeper and losing his goals and assists. For me you really need him higher up the pitch to get the most out of him.

That said, Ozil was overplayed last year and suffered physically as a result. The same goes for Ramsey. Signing Cesc would alleviate that issue hugely, but will Wenger want to spend £30m on a signing that solves some problems but creates others? I'm not sure. I think he'll be interested, but probably not at that price, so where he ends up will probably depend on Fabregas' willingness to play for Man City/Liverpool/Chelsea etc. I have no doubt City would stump up £30m and £150k/week+ for him, and I don't think we would, so if Barca are willing to sell and he's willing to go there, then that's probably what will happen.

We could afford him. Maybe not anyone else for that much, certainly not in that position, but we could afford him. Do we really need a striker?

---Arteta---Ramsey----

-------Cesc------

-------Ozil--------

Walcott----Podolski

Rev that is insane. :)

Midfield diamond with Arteta at the base and Ozil at the point would probably work fine I guess, but we'd be relying on the full backs for width and we'd need two strikers.

Tbh I think we need to get over the lad and admit that boat has probably sailed. He would improve our squad massively, but fitting him into the XI is a headache and at £30m I just can't see it happening when we're crying out for guys in other positions. And besides, if he hadn't forced his way out of the club in the first place we wouldn't be having these discussions.

Different, yeah, but not insane. Walcott and Podolski are both strikers, they're just...Quite odd ones. Cesc has played a fair bit as a fake 9 and that'd be made a lot easier with support from Ozil and Ramsey.

It'd be fun!

EDIT: I really don't think a 6 foot odd hoof the ball into the middle striker is the right answer for Arsenal either. I'd get rid of all 6000 of those that we've signed up, personally.

When you look at the season Arsenal have just had, and how every season seems to fall apart once a key member (or two, or three...) of the squad gets injured, it kind of makes you think "fuck it, bring him back" because lets face it, Ramsey, Cazorla, Ozil, Wilshere and Fabregas would all get game time, we'd be in contention for more silverware, Arteta and Rosicky are beginning to get towards the end of their careers whilst Flamini can be a bit... erratic, and whilst they're not like for like swaps, you could still make a more than convincing midfield out of that group of players that would mean theres always quality on the pitch and less chance that someone will get overplayed (which Wenger has a habit of doing far too often).

Plus, as Rev said, it'd be fun :D
