Steve, maybe one day you should try and come up with a better solution to Arsenal's problems than "THROW MONEY AT THEM" because it just makes you look like you know less about football than the American that runs us.

Trophies are nice but the future of Arsenal should always come first. Saddling us with obscene amounts of debt to sign players we don't need just because you're scared people won't think we're a big club is insane. Where do you think Man City are going to be if their owner gets bored of them one day when he realises he's just pissing money away on nothing? League Two if they're lucky. Their business model is not sustainable. Sorry to use the B word, but it's 2014, Arsenal is a business. Obviously it's a football team first but if it's not run as a business then one day it's going to cease to exist and future generations of your family won't have this club. You'd threaten this just for short-term success?

I've probably said this before but you obviously wish you were supporting Chelsea, why the fuck don't you?

You are slightly missing my point. I am not saying throw 100's of millions down the bog. But I am saying we need to spend some serious money. How else are we going to get better if we don't spend? How else can we hope to compete with Man City if we don't spend serious cash just to try and hang on to their coattails? Man City & Chelsea are much better than us and they will certainly spend big and pull even further ahead of us if we do very little business in the summer.

And I don't want to support Chelsea - why would I? I'm a Gooner. I want the club to start exciting the fans again by bringing in quality talent. I want the club to give me some fucking hope that we are going to do something next year. Fourth place means fuck all to me. I just want us to be winners.

I just had my season ticket renewal come though. £1349! So that's a bill of £2700 for my two tickets.

Maybe you can see why I think I am not getting value for money when I have to pay that each year.

You're asking for Chelsea-esque spending then complaining about your ST cost...

Do you think player wages, and subsequently ticket prices, would have spiraled as they have without the influx of oil money into the game? Not a chance.

Arsenal is a proper business and has to be run as such. Therefore in order to keep up with modern costs, they have to charge obscene amounts for match days. Hankering after a billionaire sugar daddy while complaining about the cost of modern football seems incredibly contradictory to me.

It's odd how none of that really addresses your original point about buying Shaw. Nobody is saying they don't want us to spend serious money, just that there are more important areas to improve and Arsenal's resources are most definitely finite. Shaw really would be a luxury player for us.

Not really. Arsenal just rinse the fuck out of anything they can. I wouldn't care about the cost if we actually did something on the pitch. If we even looked like title challengers then I could see that we were at least going in the right direction. As a fan that pays through the teeth each season I expect a little something back. Stumbling into 4th place each year is simply not good enough.

Wenger keeps moaning about clubs that have broken the FFP rules and anyone can see that he's just upset that clubs like Man City are just getting stronger and stronger and he's not got the resources to get near them. It's like he's almost banking on clubs falling in line with the FFP rules so he doesn't have to spend to keep up. He's happy with 4th and doesn't have any ambition above that. 4th is his and the clubs target. 4th place is what guarantees them high levels of revenue without any real need to spend a lot in the transfer market. It drives me up the wall that the clubs level of ambition isn't higher than that.

It's not like anyone can claim the money isn't there. The club receives insane money from the Premier Leagues global & domestic TV deals, match day revenue is one of the highest in global sport, they rake it in from sponsorship deals, the Puma kit deal will bring in £30m a year for 5 seasons, Emirates pay tens of millions per year.... so where's it all going?

I thought we looked like pretty decent title contenders until most of our attacking force caught the dreaded lurgy? We got done over because our squad depth/quality is not good enough. But to say we weren't title contenders is a bit disingenuous.

Why are you asking where it's going? It's all there in the accounts, they're not hiding anything.

Arsenal is a business, a real business, not a billionaire's plaything or laundering device. We've got a world class ground which cost an insane amount of money, paid for entirely by ourselves. The amount of people who seem to ignore that really baffles me.

To say we are lacking ambition and our target is 4 th place is quite baffling to me,

We smashed, SMASHED our and most of clubs in the premierships transfer record buy spending 42m on Ozil how is that aiming for targeting 4th?

What club that is just settling on doing just enough to qualify for the champions league spends 42m on a player and god know how much on wages.

This year we have defiantly improved the table shows that we are currently what 5 points off the leaders and in a cup final. Defiantly heading in the right direction.

I just can't help put think that posts on here and twitter that say all we do is make money and hoard it and aim for 4th each year is just lazy, certainly 4th and the money of the champions league has been a priority over the last couple of seasons but if you can't see that has changed this season then I genuinely feel sorry for you.

Should we have got another striker? Yes. But something tells me that we where given feedback that the players we really wanted would be available in the summer, so why spend 10/15 million on a second choice when in 5 months you can have your first choice target for 20/25 million?
