Would rather go through that than what Spurs, Man Utd & Chelsea fans went through ;)

Fair point ;)

Especially when you think that is pretty much how Chelsea set out most games. defend, defend, defend, grab a goal on the break.

I almost feel sorry for their fans. almost :)

I'm happy with the result obviously but the way we are playing doesn't fill me with confidence at all. That's the issue for me. Without entering into games with the confidence that we're likely to win, we're just as likely to lose. Even if we play decently.

Liverpools game today is a case in point. Even before the game you could sense the confidence that they were going to beat United. During the game itself it was even more evident. However when we played United we just didn't have that confidence and we let an incredibly poor team walk away with a point, it's a fine line.

I don't think we'd have played it so safe in that game if we hadn't just been absolutely ravaged at Anfield. That made us overly cagey I think.

Yeh that's a fair point. I suppose I'm still annoyed that we're gonna end up being one of the few teams to fail to make hay with the current united. ;)

They might keep him for another year yet, be positive.

Pires on the left & Ljungberg on the right for me, but apart from that no real arguments. Fuck me, what a team that would be.

Of the current crop you'd probably say Özil, Szczesny & Koscielny have the best chance of eventually making their way into that squad if they all fulfil their potential here. Can't see anyone ever replacing Henry, Vieira & God though.

Interesting article in the Graun today on Wenger's greatest XI, as he approaches 1000 games in charge:

http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/mar/19/arsene-wenger-greatest-arsenal-xi

Of the current squad, only Szczesny makes the grade: seems a tad harsh. Personally would have Sagna as Wenger's greatest RB, also perhaps a spot for Koscielny on the bench.

I love Sagna and I really hope he signs a new contract but I reckon I'd have psycho Lauren in there ahead of him.

Yeah I don't think those hold up. Ok we only got one truly great season out of RVP, but the same obviously goes for Anelka too. As for Wrighty, he was past his best when Arsene took over.

I think the criteria for selection is how good they were from October 1996, so therefore Dixon, Wright and even Adams suffer because they were on the wane. Dixon in his prime would be my right back, but his prime was way before Arsene arrived really so I don't think it's relevant. As such it comes down to Sagna vs Lauren, and for me I think Sagna is the better defender.

Tbh you could make a case for Keown/Mertesacker/Koscielny over Adams, purely on the basis that when Wenger took over Tony was on the slide and was injured pretty often.

Szczesny over Lehmann seems a bit barmy in that Guardian squad.

Just noticed Tim Stillman did indeed omit Adams in his XI for FourFourTwo: http://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/arsene-wengers-finest-xi-no-room-adams-who-does-make-cut

Same logic as I said earlier I think: apparently Adams only managed about 20 games a season under Wenger, and his form was often not great when he was playing (he offered to retire in 97/98 due to poor form, and was given two months off).

Obviously at his peak he gets in no question, but those days were behind him when Wenger arrived and thus are not relevant here.

Tomorrow is surely a day for every player to sweat blood for Arsene. 1000 games and up against that prick. Do or die, lose and the title has realistically gone. I do wish Ozil was fit for this one. Giroud is due a big game but I can't see it, I wonder if he might start Sanogo.

We don't really have many options again for the XI do we. :(

Sanogo could come in for Giroud potentially. Flamini is the only other possibility, coming into the holding spot with Arteta moving a bit higher up, and Ox replacing Rosicky.

Fucking annoying Ramsey hasn't made it back for this, but it's important not to rush him I guess. Hopefully he'll be back for Man City in some capacity.
