Tell you what though, definite penalty with Ox on Suarez, but Gerrard should have walked too. Webb was a joke.

Yeah, I've just said the same in the Liverpool thread, his was a second booking all day long. It was a shocking decision for the non-penalty though.

The problem with webb and so many refs is this obsession with 'managing the game' and getting on with everybody

Lets have 3months at start of season where they call it all by the book, swear at ref- yellow card whoever you are, no 1st tackle freebies, no stopping play for fake injuries, book keepers who take 30s over a goal kick, 2nd yellows given for whatever the infringement etc

It will be painful for a bit but the thickos will learn and the game will be better for it

Looks like Wenger was right about our keepers. Szczesny probably the best in the league this season, Fabianski excellent whenever called upon for ages now, and comfortably the best reserve keeper around, and Mannone doing well at Sunderland.

Interesting to see Arteta playing higher up than Flamini this time. I think that worked a lot better and made the Flamteta axis 1000% less horrible. Good games for Ox, Ozil, Fabianski and Kos, and Sanogo was a handful for Agger.

Fox, are you concerned that today's game will have sapped a lot of energy from your guys? The intensity of the game never let up throughout and whilst we now have a week off, you've got a massive game in a few days and I wonder how much that performance took out of you.

@humdrum - well both are quite theatrical falls but I'd say they are both penalties (though at the same time I'd say they are soft and often fall into that area of 'not given, but not deemed a dive'.)

They're both pens. Stupid and pointless challenges but that doesn't mean they should go unpunished. Walcott's is one I've mentioned a lot when listing off the bullshit that has gone in Mourinho's favour so far this season. Seriously, can you think of another team that has had even half as many bad decisions go for them this season? Yet the cunt is constantly moaning about everyone else. Yeah, we all know why he does it but still. I thought Wenger showed true class when talking about him after the match today. Like a disappointed parent talking about a stroppy teenager.

Big win for us to keep us on the up. Thought we played well and a lot of fringe players made a case. On Suarez. He is a real nuisance. Great player. Both were pens for me if I'm honest even if the second was theatrical. Refs baffles at times but can't be bothered to go into it as we all know what I'm talking about.

I dunno. I mean on the face of it Ozil is being overplayed, and he put in a decent shift yesterday again and was on for the full 90 mins when before the game we thought he'd probably be rested. But Arsenal obviously employ a field of specialists to look at this stuff and analyse when a player is likely to pick up an injury, so hopefully they know what they're doing (even if they seemingly fucked up with Ramsey). I suspect Ozil won't start vs Sunderland at the weekend at least.

Mertesacker & Koscielny are also playing virtually every game, but I'm not so worried about them because obviously they don't cover the same amount of ground. If Vermaelen wasn't injured he'd have probably played yesterday.

With the others I think Wenger has managed them pretty well really, considering the injuries. AOC's return to the side came at a vital time with Walcott and Ramsey out, and given the form he's showing I'd be surprised if he doesn't start on Wednesday. Sagna, Cazorla and Giroud got a rest yesterday so will hopefully be fresh for Wednesday. Flamini has been out for a few games so I'm not worried about him (Arteta is suspended vs Bayern so it'll be Flamini and either Wilshere or AOC in midfield).

As for the penalty, it's just revenge for Stephane Henchoz's handball.

Ha, that was an excellent hand-ball, I remember. Were you already 1-0 at the time, or was it still 0-0?

@petrolgirls - As Fox says, it was a stupid challenge from Podolski, he has a good kick at Suarez and is nowhere near the ball. Suarez definitely made the most of the contact, but it's a foul regardless.

For me the penalty wasn't, it's the faintest of touches on one leg yet both of Suarez's legs crumple - that's simulation for my money. The AOC challenge, however, was a clear penalty - so they've evened out I guess.

I think this is what happened - if the first hadn't been given, the second definitely would have been.

Bad refereeing.

Does anyone else have a weird and almost certainly completely misplaced confidence about tomorrow? I dunno why but I'm not shitting myself about it. Might just be coz I got a ticket and I don't get as stressed as when I'm watching on telly.

As for the team, I think I'd like to see Podolski over Cazorla to give us a bit of an outlet and some pace to combat Bayern's wide guys, as well as a legitimate scoring threat and better tracking back.

I realise there's absolutely zero chance of that happening though, and I fully expect us to go with Flamini, Wilshere; Rosicky, Ozil, Cazorla

I really don't. We're not playing brilliantly at the moment, really missing Ramsay and Walcott whilst Bayern have looked like an unstoppable force all season long, the only slight blemish that odd reverse to City in a dead rubber. No Ribery, which is something I suppose.

I've realised why I feel a bit more zen than usual for this sort of game: it's because we haven't imploded yet so all our eggs aren't left in the CL basket like normal. Still in with a shout in the league, still in the FA Cup with several big teams already out. If we lose this game it's not the end of days. I think that must be it.

Predicting a cagey approach from us tonight. Probably won't set up with Ox/Poldi wide for counters and will basically just try and keep it tight. I think Wenger would be chuffed with a 0-0 going into the second leg. It doesn't look like Ramsey will be back for that game but you'd imagine we'd set up a bit differently there, with at least one of Poldi and Ox starting wide in order to hit them on the break.

Plus, in our last one games with Bayern, we have a 100% record.
