This would never have happened if we'd spunked £40m on Julian Draxler.

Wilshere getting a lot of credit on the radio for running forward a lot, shame he didn't bother protecting the defence in any way whatsoever. He looked like he cared but ultimately him and Arteta were dogshit, along with Ozil and Cazorla. AOC probably the only outfield player who actually did alright.

Depressing result, although not as bad as the 8-2 against Man U a couple of seasons back as at least we have a decent squad this year.

Really unlucky for the first two goals, then Liverpool's pressing and counter attacking killed us. Rodgers got his tactics spot on has to be said.

Really missed Ramsey today.

Huge favour from City there, who could easily have lost. We have to pick ourselves up and get 3pts on Wednesday, it's a must-win game now.

If I'm honest I think this run and the one in March are gonna kill us without Ramsey and Fenton, but I still have hope because the other teams will drop 'daft' points.

I really hope Wenger doesn't play a stupid XI in the FA Cup next weekend either. We didn't get a chance to expose their weak defensive aspects at all today, need to learn lessons from this about defending against their early attacking play and utilise them next week because that's still our best chance of a trophy.

I wasn't going to listen to 606 today because it's going to be full of idiots, but I see Steve is around to give me that 606 experience regardless. Thanks, man, now tell us how this is all Wenger's fault and we wouldn't be in this terrible position if we had hired David Moyes.

I can guarantee you, that had you had Moyes in charge, you wouldn't have had a result today that dropped you to second in the league.

At least the boys gave Steve something to whine about. Every cloud...

Not sure any of us consistently agree with Steve, if ever in some cases, but he goes every week and is obv. a real Gooner so deserves his opinion. At least he doesn't give it the hipster 'yeah Ozil might only do one thing per match but it's generally quite good just look at the stats and listen to the podcasts you just don't get it there's more to football than effort' kind of shit. I'd rather we all watched the match and called it as it was on the day. Anyway, another big game we failed to attend, by all accounts. It's hard to know if the players aren't up to scratch mentally and/or physically and/or not bothered or whether Wenger simply can't prepare a team for this kind of encounter. Time and again he's excited to see how we deal with a big, pressure match and we totally fluff it.

We did beat this lot at home really comfortably. There were also big mitigating circumstances surrounding the defeats in Manchester (illness/schedule fatigue), and we've put in some good performances in big CL games too.

edit: possibly something in it away from home, though. Dortmund away the only decent 'big game' so far, the rest have been bobbins

There's no getting away from it, can't really make any excuses, we got beat good and proper today.

However, once the game settled after 20 minutes, all be it the score was 4-0 and the game was already over and lost, the score from that point on was 1-1.

Like I said, no excuses about today but the season isn't suddenly all over. There are 13 games to go and we are 1 point off the top, 1 point ahead of City, 10 points ahead off 5th, 11 ahead of Spurs & 15 ahead of Utd. Plus we are in the last 16 of the CL & FA Cup.

I for one would have taken that at the beginning of the season.

All that said, I realise unless we win something this season then it'll all count for nothing. We've got some ridiculous games coming up and we're gonna be seriously stretched.

If I'm being honest, with Theo out for the rest of the season, Ramsey missing for a while yet, Flamini out of the next two & Giroud having to play pretty much every game, we shouldn't be strong enough to finish above City or Chelsea and we shouldn't be good enough to get past Bayern in the CL.

This is football though and it's never that straightforward. You never know.

What was that stat? We finished top of the table for 2013 I think? We just need to do it for a season and not a calendar year.

Seriously though, shit shit result today but the season isn't over yet. It could easily fall apart but then again it could well and truly be back on track on Wednesday.

Surely I don't need to point out that I never said Steve isn't entitled to an opinion, or that he shouldn't voice that opinion here? He's entitled to say whatever he likes, just as others are entitled to accuse him of only contributing to this thread when he has something to moan about. No one is trying to censor anybody.

Flamini is back for you guys on Wednesday I believe? Today was the last game of his suspension.

Anyway, I think you'll do much better in the cup game, our record at the Emirates is rubbish and I think you'll be smarting from today. It'll definitely be a closer game.

Yeah, Flamini is back on Wednesday.

News: Per and Sanogo have had a "bust up" which I suspect was highly embarrassing. And Giroud is in trouble for having too much sex. I assume, like when we signed Kallstrom and knew he had a bad back, we signed Giroud acknowledging that he'd be too damn sexy and this was an inherent risk?

Ah, football.

It's all still open, but Arsenal need to make sure they don't mess up against the lesser teams they face next (Stoke, Sunderland, Swansea Man Utd) and are still in the race when Spurs, Chelsea and Mac City come to play.

You've got a relatively easy run in, with West Ham, Hull, Newcastle, West Brom, Norwich as your final stretch. You just gotta be in range of first place by the time they come around.

Are any of you lot going to the Sunderland game? You might want to get there early that day as it's the unveiling of Dennis Bergkamp's statue at 11.30. I never normally attend these sort of things, but I'll make an exception for DB. If you miss that then he'll be on the pitch at half time for an interview.
