So, if you would, please could you explain how Arsenal signing anyone (else) in January would have made any difference to this game?

Fresh faces give squads a boost. Fresh faces usually strengthen the squad. They add depth and perhaps with new players we wouldn't have to be carrying so many players which look out of sorts and have done for weeks. I don't know if Ozil is tired or just uninterested for example.

Wilshere is the only one to walk off at half time with any credit, but he's in danger of getting himself sent off as he's doing the job of 9 other players.

Best hope now is to salvage some respectability in the second half, as this kind of demolition has the potential to destroy our confidence & ruin our season. It's absolutely imperative that we bounce back in convincing fashion when United come to the Emirates on Wednesday. I've gone from quiet confidence to absolutely bricking myself about our next few games. Fucking disaster.

He's been shocking today but this isn't representative of his normal game.

He's been playing quite badly for most of January. Fortunately he has popped up with the occasional assist, but the rest of his game has been quite anonymous.

The club should refund the poor sods who travelled up to watch this shit.

Fresh faces give squads a boost...

This is what I meant by 'cause-and-effect'. Your implication here is that if we'd been made a bit smilier and happier about a new signing (who probably wouldn't have touched the ball yet) we might not have conceded a goal early on. To counter, I would again suggest that having a different breakfast, or warm-up, or that first deflection going anywhere else could've potentially had that same outcome.

My issue here is that I can't see your (original) comment as being anything other than your using a freak result to have a tangential whinge, and don't see the point (and don't seem to be alone).

The last few home games I went to we were lucky to get the 3 points. We are desperate for new faces. I don't understand people who say signing new players would be a bad idea. When has signing new players when your squad is so thin ever been a bad idea? Are you honestly saying we couldn't have done with a new forward? You are happy that the only forwards we have are Giroud and fucking Bendtner?

Also I know I am being overly simplistic but its still only 3 points and we where never going to catch city Goal Difference

if anything isn't it easier to get over a result like this as its more of a freak result then losing something like 2-0?

Yes, it's only 3 points that we badly needed but it's the manner of the defeat. It doesn't really set us up well for the vital run of games we have over the next few weeks.

So why do people get upset when I complain our squad needs beefing up?

But its about signing the right players. there is no point signing players just to make up the numbers, (we have had that in the past and only this year cleared out alot of the dead wood)

if we are going to sign anyone then they should only been players that will improve the team and everything I have seen this Jan has given the impression that there have been very few players available that would improve us.

THE COME BACK IS ON!!!

Not having that. We have more than enough money to ensure the right players 'become available'.

I at least somewhat agree with everything you've said here, and it's not a bad post, even if you do seem to have somewhat missed my point. I do think that if we were going to get a midfielder in for cover we probably should've got one we didn't then need cover for, as well as a new centre-back and striker, and maybe some improvements in a few other areas too.

Maybe you could've lead with that kind of thing, rather than a glib comment suggesting that our inactivity in the transfer window might've been somehow responsible for our freakish early deficit today. I doubt anyone would've taken issue then.

Fickle football fans... texting in to the BBC sport page calling for Wenger to resign. I know it's a bad result, but bloody hell. You're still in the top 3 and a point behind Chelsea and City (I'm assuming they go on to win later today of course). I don't know many Arsenal fans who expected to be in this position at the start of the season. I know it's no consolation when you're getting dicked, but you're far ahead of where almost everyone, including yourselves, expected to be at this point in the season.

Football fans and perspective don't really go together though really, do they?
