Strong end to the half, Everton were impressive and had a lot of possession but we still had better chances. Our centre backs are the best pairing in the league, comfortably, and we can cede possession and soak up pressure without it necessarily being an issue.

Like the Dortmund game, I think we can win if we don't make any individual errors at the back.

Can't be too disappointed with that, really, I think Everton were probably the hardest team to beat out of three games with them, Chelsea and City. Chelsea's defence is shit and if we're on our game we could smash them, ditto Man City if they're not on their game. We could easily lose those games too, of course, but Everton was always going to be tight, they're a lot stronger than I thought they'd be this season with Martinez.

What a great game to watch. Well played to both teams. Thought you lot had a shocking start and we played out of our socks for the first 40 minutes. Then it looked a lot more like I expected it would, and when the Ozil goal came I feared the worst. But Robbie has given us the flair on top of (rather than instead of) some of the old steel, so wasn't surprised to see us keep at it, and Deulefeu's goal was a cracker.

Points shared seems about right.

Poor from Gibbs on the goal, basically invited Deulofeu to shoot

Lmao Barkley was MotM? He's talented but so naive and his end product is virtually non existent. Koscielny was easily the best player on the pitch for me.

He's just turned 20. What players that age are setting the league alight?

He has all the raw ingredients to be a top player. He just needs the right coach to develop him, and Martinez is great for that. He's technically fantastic, two great feet, good skills and athletically gifted too. His decision making can be rash at times for sure, but that can be coached and will come with experience.

I know it's only Piers Morgan, but he tweeted earlier that Thierry and Edgar Davids were raving about him after the game. The kid clearly has something about him.

lol I didn't say he's shit, he's a promising player. Just think the hype is perhaps a bit OTT as people never seem to point out the fairly obvious flaws currently in his game. He fluffed up several Everton attacks either through poorly thought out or poorly executed passes. He's a good dribbler, his positioning is good, he's physically impressive and shields the ball really well, but the final product is a bit lacking atm.

He definitely wasn't the best player on the pitch; all four centre backs were better really (surely the best two pairings in the league), with Koscielny basically flawless

I think we definitely need a reasonable degree of rotation for the Napoli game. Ramsey improved in the second half but he was very sloppy in possession in the first half (he has tended to struggle a bit against sides that press aggressively tbh). He also couldn't get forward too much early on because he was having to help Jenkinson when Everton were repeatedly trying to double up on him. Basically though he did look a little bit tired and I don't think he should start really. A midfield pivot of Flamini and Wilshere should be fine. You'd imagine Rosicky and Walcott will start, so then it just depends on if he goes for Ozil, Cazorla or Gnabry for the final spot.

Incidentally it's kind of a shame Ox is still injured because, with the way Cazorla has been playing, I think he'd be in the first XI if he was fit.

edit: musing further on Napoli, if Sagna is unavailable then perhaps Jenkinson-Wilshere-Walcott is a tad risky. If Jenks plays I think you'd want to give him more protection, either from Arteta/Ramsey sitting with Flamini, or a more defensively switched on player wide right.

Arteta is no spring chicken, played 90 mins yesterday, and will surely start vs City. So perhaps if Jenks has to play then Theo won't start wide right after all. In that situation I'd maybe go Gnabry-Cazorla-Rosicky as the attacking trio, with Walcott and Ozil off the bench if needed.

I think he's getting mixed up with his release clause, which I think kicks in Summer 2015. He's definitely not out of contract anytime soon!

Uh so anyway I got offered two tickets for Man City and my retard mate has bailed out. Anyone wanna come?
