Can someone explain why if Napoli beat us by three goals, they'll finish above us when our goal difference is +5 and their's is -1? Doesn't that mean they'd have to score 6?

Or does it only relate to the games between the two teams? Ie we won first leg 2-0.

Every goal they win by, Arsenal also lose by. Three brings the GDs level, and then the head to head factors in.

Credit has to go to Wojech for the performances he's put in lately. Was good again tonight when called upon. That second save where he got down low at the near post was brilliant.

He's been solid for us for a few games now and glad he's played his way back to form. Hopefully he can keep it up, because when he is playing well, he's brilliant.

What would happen if Arsenal, Napoli and Borussia Dortmund all finish Champions League Group F tied on 12 points?

That will happen if Napoli beat Arsenal and Dortmund beat Marseille on matchday six on December 11.

Put simply, Arsenal must avoid a three-goal defeat in Naples to go into the last 16. For more details, read on.

According to Uefa's rules, if three teams end the group on the same number of points, the following 'tiebreakers' will be used (in order) to decide who progresses to the knockout stages:

(a) highest number of points obtained in the group matches played among the teams in question (Arsenal, Napoli and Dortmund)

(b) superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams in question (ie. Arsenal, Napoli and Dortmund)

© higher number of goals scored in the group matches played among the teams in question (ie. Arsenal, Napoli and Dortmund)

(d) higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches played among the teams in question (ie. Arsenal, Napoli and Dortmund)

If, after applying criteria (a) to (d) to all three teams, two teams still have an equal ranking, criteria (a) to (b) are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the two teams in question to determine their final rankings.

If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria (e) to (g) apply;

(e) superior goal difference from all group matches played;

(f) higher number of goals scored from all group matches played;

(g) higher number of coefficient points accumulated by the club in question, as well as its association, over the previous five seasons.

So the current goal difference in the group at the moment doesn't matter. if we lose to Napoli and Dortmund beat Marseilli.as it goes to basically a mini league format using the results between the teams on 12 points.

Napoli 2 - 1 dortmund
Arsenal 2 -0 napoli
Arsenal 1-2 Dortmund
Dortmund 0-1 Arsenal
Dortmund 3-1 Napoli
Napoli ? - ? Arsenal

Currently the table would be...

Points GF GA GD
Dortmund 6 6 4 2
Arsenal 6 4 2 2
Napoli 3 3 6 -3

so if we lose 2 -0 Napoli they would join us on 6 points, but their GD would be -1 and ours would be 0.

if we lose 3 -0 to Napoli they would again join us on 6 points, but their GD this time would be 0 and ours would be -1

I think...

We definitely want to beat Napoli as I have a feeling that Dortmund will slaughter Marseilles and beat us on GD if we don't. If we finish second then we'll no doubt play Bayern or Barca (again) and lose on away goals (again).

I agree that Dortmund will slaughter Marseille but we only need a draw in Napoli to win the group.

I'd rather avoid Real, Barca and Bayern until a bit later on if possible.

Think the score line slightly flattered you today as we made you work for that win.

In saying that - I suspect you may have gone up a gear of needed.

That bloody midfield of yours in something else. Ramsey can't stop scoring even when he feels bad doing so.

Funny moment was we started a "Your just a shit Aaron Ramsey" to Wilshere when he went off. Ramsey fucked up so it was immediately switched around.

Best team I've seen this season and probably ever against us. If you can keep everyone fit, I reckon the title is all yours.
