As paying fans we've got the right to dislike him for his conduct when he moved from the Arsenal. Slave comments and all that. Personally, I think his way on the pitch can be a bit off. He's a bit worthy and attitudey. You know when you dislike someone cos of their face? A bit of that, rightly or wrongly. When he broke into the Arsenal first team I said to the guys we went with that he was a tad evil in the tackle but I think he lost that and turned into a great left back. Off the field I couldn't care less. He got a good move to Chelsea, fair play, and he's been excellent for England. Ultimately we'd have loved him if he'd stayed at Arsenal and of course we saw him as a nipper in the shirt etc. and it hurt our feelings like it did with RvP. I'm sure he's OK but so what? It's irrational and fickle but the game's built on that. And he's a multi millionaire so we're dead jealous.

We fucked him around though at the end of the day. He'd come through the ranks and was an integral Invincible, he was verbally offered one figure then Dein tried to be clever and lowered it. Stupid, unnecessary brinkmanship that pissed the player off no end. He shouldn't have met with Chelsea surreptitiously and illegally, but we started the breakdown. As I said, RVP was waaaaay worse in how he conducted himself when leaving IMO.

Wasn't it something daft like he wanted £55k a week and the club offered him less? I don't remember the facts and figures as it was so long ago. What I do know is that we managed to fill his position and didn't really miss him. I thought Clichy was a terrific player when he was younger. He just never seemed to improve as time went on, in fact I'd say he went backwards in his last 2 seasons with us. We got good money for him.

What happened to Vermaelen? (Not trolling) Injuries? He was really good when he signed.

He was never really good as a defender though, his goals hid the fact he wasnt that great at the back. I've always suspected he was one of those kids not good enough to get a game in midfield so became a reluctant defender.

Mert has been superb recently but you have to test your squad sometime, could be worse, could be Bender up top.

The only positive is that we can't play much worse than that in the second half. United are stifling us well, but we've been poor when we've had the ball.

Giroud needs to step his game up. It's all well and good getting the odd flick on here and there, but he has to offer more in the big games.

Hugely disappointing after the midweek high against Dortmund. Credit to United, who stifled us very well & worked hard for their win. Total lack of fluidity from us today, with Giroud & pretty much the whole midfield being anonymous or off the pace.

Still, other results went in our favour, we're still top of the league & we could afford to lose this game far more than they could.

Agree with Humdrum; they created fuck all and didn't defend especially well and we really should have taken much more out of that game. No one really stood out for us and we looked tired in the first half and we lacked that bit of pace and verve that Rosicky, Rambo (in the right position) and Theo can offer.
